Just amazing how this beautiful creature will just stand still without moving a muscle for 30 ,40 ,50 seconds at a time, so intimidating but magnificent at the same time.
You mentioned muscle so think about it, there's 2,000 muscles in that trunk. The are magnificent animals and very clever. I've been to the Kruger park about eleven times. Once, that was in 1996, a herd of elephant wanted to cross the eastern border into Mozambique. The matriarch led the herd to where a tree grew next to the fence and pushed it over onto the fence, damaging it to such an extent, that they could gain access into Mozambique!!!!!!
What's best about this particular video is not that there's much happening, but quite the opposite. It's so quiet, and the bull is able to stand quietly gazing at the humans, allowing a good long view of him and the chance to see how he responds to other creatures. What a beautiful moment that I'm sure all of you will carry for the rest of your lives.
Look at those beautiful eyes ❤️ He is so magnificent and precious! Very Beautiful animals 😘🐘❤️ Thank you for showing respect to him. He is a true king 👑 🐘😍❤️
I have just started watching Elephant videos because one came thru my feed. This has to be such a awesome experience for him to just stand there quietly with very soft eyes and a relaxed body. The tour guide is awesome!! He set the boundaries when the Elephant started to put his trunk in to investigate. I have never seen one in person but now I want to. But not at the poor captive abused Elephant's expense. They should all be free to live their lives without humans doing what they do with these magnificent animals!! What an awesome experience!! Thank you for sharing your video!! To this big beautiful guy, prayers that you live a long stress free life!! Elephants are awesome!! 🐘
Wow, such immense beauty in this video. That look in his eyes, the soft docile blinking, the serene silence (although perhaps the tourists were scared), absolutely beautiful. Thank you for sharing!
Yes! That kind of blinking says reams about the gentle soul behind those eyes...also the ear flapping were just simple flapping to help keep him cool...also the slow head movements were another sign this elephant was genuinely, gently curious! Time to bring out (slowly bring out!) a banana...or two-dozen, one at a time...gently, softly speaking/making soft sounds while not staring the guy in the eye, but perhaps at his trunk tip, or ear edges, while duplicating similar head movements...those folks that can wiggle their ears would have a great advantage here....smile now. But gentle words, slow gentle blinks of the eyes, and a banana might have made the beginnings of a wonderful friendship here...pay no attention to the nay-sayers, some elephant are very gently natured, and those are the ones we could strike-up a bush conversation with...along with another banana...one more even bigger smile/grin!
@@frankwolf3860 I wouldn't feed him out of the car. Maybe through put a banane on the ground a coupe a meters away. Otherwise he remember and is going to check out on this every car that comes across his ways.

The elephant was simply curious and wanted to investigate. You could tell by his soft eyes, swishing tail, and relaxed body posture that he meant no harm whatsoever. The people were wise and remained calm. This was a positive exchange, exciting for both elephant and humans.
Such a beautiful bull. You can practically see him thinking and pondering these small creatures in the Jeep. I would have been so stoked after this encounter.
That was a serious stare down. Elephant checking everything out; one by one, piece by piece. Conveying that he might be old but he’s in charge. ‘Don’t make a move till I let you move on. I’m the boss around here.’ An amazing encounter where the intelligence, natural caution and power of the elephant shines through.
This elephant listens very well. He was as curious about you all as much as you all was skeptical and curious about him. He seems much older, maybe past 50 years old? I bet he has a lot of stories to tell.
I am 67, and will never travel to Africa from rural Maine, USAI remember first posting to You Tube when we got broadband in rural Maine, from my newly purchased FLIP video camera.Today, I can sit here at home and count the muscle ridges on this tusker's trunk as he inspects you as you drive around his home territory.I am simply awestruck at what modern technology offers us mere humble humans as we attempt to understand our world.THANKS!!!!!!!!!! Roger
Hi Rogernamvet, thanks for the comment, we agree that technology is amazing and it brings these wild encounters easily to our pc's and phones. However I would encourage you to visit Africa and experience the African Bush, there is a certain magic that exists here and one can not help but relax and appreciate nature. There is very little WIFI :-) I must however admin that the above Video was the scariest moment I have had wile on a game drive, as incredible as the experience was I dont think I'm in a hurry to get that close again. We are on our way back to Nambiti soon and we cant wait to get there.
It's good I don't have the money and good health to come to Africa, because those roads would be packed with an Interstate highway of tourists like me, but thanks for the invite.I have been in rural Maine, USA, for fifteen years, where just now I heard the barks of coyotes outside my window in the winter past midnight. So it is with some experience that I suggest you enjoy what you have, and not encourage too many people to come and mess up that wonderful natural experience. The rest of us can watch and wonder on You Tube!I have watched hundreds of hours of elephant videos this winter and they amaze me. From what I could tell, that elephant was just as wary of you as you were of him. Notice that neither of you did anything to upset or scare the other. In one video, several elephants wander in to a tent campsite, and one wags his ears and throws dirt. The unarmed guide simply kicks dirt at the elephant, and the elephants all walk off, scared. LOLIn another, the guides are on foot with their human charges, and don't use their guns, but merely point a cane at the elephants (several visiting groups), while crouched in an unthreatening position, and several different sets of elephants GET THE MESSAGE AND LEAVE.... LOLTurns out, the elephants are as scared of us as we are of them, but curious still the same.Apparently, after years of civil wars in Africa, and poachers, with people killing them from moving vehicles, they are quite content to stop and smell you to find that you won't hurt them, and they won't hurt you.I had plenty of that experience with fear while on a guard tower in the Vietnam War, and understand how intoxicating it can be. I kind of guess you'll be sending us more video of you, close up with an elephant. If you want a CHANGE OF PACE, and actually want to HAND FEED, and HAND WASH ELEPHANTS in a stream, I might suggest you visit the most famous ELEPHANT NATURE PARK in Chiang Mai, Thailand. There are hundreds of videos on You Tube about it.These are mostly older retired Asian elephants, with a number of youngsters adopted or born there, and visitors help hand feed them, and then follow them to the river to throw buckets of water over them, or at other parks, actually physically bathe them with large brushes and sponges, which the elephants seem to love. There are NOT wild elephants, and they have a mahout to guide them, but you can actually feed, rub them, and stand among them, and the visitors seem to get the same sense of wonder you experienced in your video. And if you look up PETER BARTON on You Tube, you'll see this famous, classical British pianist, who lives in Thailand, and carries several pianos out to the elephants in the field and PLAYS BEETHOVEN and other classical masters for them. The animals have a sense of rhythm and simply love it. Peter finds more peace of mind playing for an audience of elephants outside in nature, than he did in stuffy classical music venues in Britain. :) To see Peter's face play his favorite music, outdoors, at night with elephants, and the serenity he experiences, is an act of love all over his face!Once again, thanks for your videos and comments. Roger in Maine, USA.
@@nightlightabcd I don't think it's permitted in the reserves to give the animals food. They don't want to teach the animals to approach people or be comfortable with them. It's safer for everyone if the animals remain wary. But solitary male elephants seem to be very curious sometimes. Maybe they're lonely. Or maybe they just enjoy checking us out the same way we enjoy checking them out.
I have noticed that when an elephant raises it's trunk in a curvy stance like that, it's usually a good sign. Although it was still keeping a very close eye on everything, just in case.
The trunk position is him taking in all the strange scents from the humans, but you're right that usually a slowly moving upward trunk means a relaxed elephant. If you see that trunk curl under, and the ears flatten against the head, and he comes running, he's not bluffing; he intends to kill whatever is in his path!
I think part of the reason some of the bulls approach the vehicles is loneliness. They are by themselves most of the time it seems logical that they would enjoy company by interacting with humans. This bull definitely does not mean any harm! What a beautiful sweetheart.
That's amazing.. You guys are so blessed to experience the interaction with that Bull. Thank you for posting. What ever you guys paid for this trip it was all worth it rite there.

@@angrybear86 Just wanted some company. Human monkey's are always in a hurry, have such a short attention span. When you are an elephant there is no hurry. Probably one of the best videos on the internet.

Thanks for the positive feedback, it was an amazing encounter and we where very privileged to be there and to have a camera rolling. Not sure about the age, I will try find out for you.
Great video. But what was it about? -- behaviorally? It was a socialization episode, but subdued. This was a brave but well experienced animal. His instincts about these people made him feel comfortable enough to approach and mingle. It was a perfect balance of friendliness and caution on the elephant's part, and the consistent calm of the people present reinforced the elephant's comfort level. But there is more to it. Why did this beast linger for more than a few minutes in the company of a few individuals not of his species when he could have just assessed them and abruptly move on? It's because of two things. One is that, like all social animals, the presence of another physical being gives comfort, and so the 'hanging around with someone for a little while' behavior gives a burst of refreshment and stimulation for a roving lone elephant. The other reason, I believe, is to more firmly imprint the memory of experiences it has had (encounters with any other beings) in order to remember who is good or safe -- and who is too risky or dangerous.
Elephant sniffs air: did one of you just pass gas? Tourists: no but I think I need a new pair of delicates. Tee hee Hes a beautiful bull. Calm and relaxed.
This tusker is either starting or ending musth. He can change modes at anytime, but he is absorbing everything he sees & hears, instead. Magnificent character in this magnificent guy.
@@drServitis Not legally anyway. I imagine poachers come onto game preserves too, though I imagine they take a bigger risk than they otherwise would due to those reserves being patrolled by game wardens.
@@Arbeedubya Doubtful there has ever been any poaching in this particular game reserve. It's in the middle of Afrikaaner land with extremely high security in the surrounding country-side actually for more than one hundred years, if not longer. This area would likely have no poaching, and most of the country of South Africa in genera has far less poaching than other areas of Africa because of the wealth of the South Africa and its ability to provide monitoring compared to other African nations.
Such a beautiful majestic animal, how blessed to meet him but... why are you whispering when he starts to move away, his senses are magnified compared to ours including his hearing, how we underestimate these and other amazing animals
Fascinating to see the trunk extend and retract. I have to wonder what he thinks with different smells or odors from similar structures with different people in them on different days.
I often wonder what's going through their minds. When they just stand there for age's looking at us ,they are so gorgeous I absolutely love them, just wish all the hunters felt the same
@@expeditionphotographic9673 You did a great job offering guidance to ensure that the bull wouldn't get startled. Everyone in the car was so quiet and respectful, all the better to keep him at ease and enjoy an extended experience with him examining you vehicle. I would have been so stoked after that.
This interaction in my opinion strongly demonstrates the intelligence of animals, not to mention their surprising ability to show no resentment to humans despite all the terrible things we have done to hurt nature. We humans need to learn this type of behaviour.
Nope don't lol. I know its tempting and the thought is sweet but they are wild animals. If people started feeding them, they would associate people with food and harass tourists for food. Especially if its a male elephant because if he were in musth he would be more aggressive and could harm everyone.
@@SS-vq9ou You're right, this isn't a zoo. It seemed like he was asking for something with his trunk!?? Such an amazing video and such a majestically beautiful animal! The calm control of both the men and the bill was something! Had my heart racing.
When he's just standing having a good old look into the vehicle, I really, really wonder what he's thinking. I'd love to get that close to an elephant but if I did I'd be so excited I'd spontaneously combust 😊
You can tell he was being curious but not necessarily aggressive since he wasn’t showing any signs. I’m sure he’s seen other humans before since people drive by those paths all the time.
What a majestic, magnificent young bull! Seems to recognize humans though. Could he possibly be one of the ex-orphans raised by one of the elephant orphanages and rehab centers? Hope he adopts a more wary stance so that he will not be an easy victim of poaching. Please help protect him and his kind.
Elephant: what are you looking at...you want a piece of me...make your move...what about you back there you want some ..no... oh. Wussies, they don't make them like they used to
I have watched many elephant vids on UA-cam. This is the most amazing! Do you know this elephant? Do you ever want to reach out and touch them (I am not advocating this; it is obvious tourists are told not to do this; I have never seen it done)? We couldn't see all that was happening...did this bull ever touch anyone with his trunk?
What a great experience. The elephant appears to display himself for everyone. I did notice a rash on his trunk that seemed a bit sore. Do the rangers put ointments on that rash?
Did that driver tell the elephant to" jog on"😂 oh yes can just see that happening "oh ok mate NOT" 😂😂😂😂 beautiful animal just looking like we do to them ❤❤
He's just searching out some food. But at 4:55 someone in the car farts. Elephant takes a sniff and thinks to himself "wow broccoli, no thanks", and walks away in search for something better.
The simplicity and quiet of this speaks to the soul.
What a beautiful, intelligent, gentle giant with soulful eyes.

One is that, like all social animals, the presence of another physical being gives comfort, and so the 'hanging around with someone for a little while' behavior gives a burst of refreshment and stimulation for a roving lone elephant. The other reason, I believe, is to more firmly imprint the memory of experiences it has had (encounters with any other beings) in order to remember who is good or safe -- and who is too risky or dangerous.
caddyjoint96 such a insightful explanation thankyou
Elephant sniffs air: did one of you just pass gas?
Tourists: no but I think I need a new pair of delicates.
Tee hee
Hes a beautiful bull. Calm and relaxed.
This tusker is either starting or ending musth. He can change modes at anytime, but he is absorbing everything he sees & hears, instead. Magnificent character in this magnificent guy.
He's a old bull. He is about 50 or 60 ish. It's crazy how they age like humans.
WOW A WILD BEAST SO BEAUTIFUL AND CALM ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC
Gentle Old Giant ❤️
he felt so much comfort with you guys. he will even come home with you. you are that much calm and handled perfectly
Ra Jaa b
I wish I could tell him sorry about humans killing his family.
Private game reserve in South Africa. None of his family members have ever been killed.
True absolute beauty! ❤️🐘❤️
What a magnificent young bull. They are even more majestic up close.
He is middle aged. The tusks are just broken short due to adventures.
Elephants are majestic beings.
Amazing video. Didn't realize that it is a bull elephant in musk until it turned. Very peaceful and lucky!
"Musth", and I don't think he is. Or if so, he's at the very beginning or the tail end of musth.
Anne Haight His glands were leaking.
Fascinating to see the trunk extend and retract. I have to wonder what he thinks with different smells or odors from similar structures with different people in them on different days.
Teaches yoo. -- me. -- patience. Something that I have very little. But I kept watching. Waiting to see the ending
What a beautiful creature elephants are so intelligent animals 😍😍
He look so sad, old and tired❤️😔
Such a beautiful animals I wish I was there. I love the elephants. They are just like us with their family. Terri
Looks like students standing out of the classroom for their misbehaviour at the same time principal arrives and starts starring them.
🤩😲😍Wow....... Super👌Elephant. 🐘
Now, which one of you looked pretty familiar to that elephant. So that he is trying to remember , where he has seen you before..!!!??
The big guy's temporal glands were seeping. Study up on musth... at this time of year he is less predictable and volatile.
that's so funny how it's just staring at them.
I often wonder what's going through their minds. When they just stand there for age's looking at us ,they are so gorgeous I absolutely love them, just wish all the hunters felt the same
Really unusual for one to hang around for so long. I wonder if there were snacks onboard and he smelled them.
I love how the elephant is just standing there; Ok now what?
Just hanging out with my tourist buddies🐘
Waiting for him to pull out a phone and take a selfie with his trunk
What a cutie...so handsome!
Here's a good question I have: How fast was your heart rate going?
TChops 2019 it was going pretty fast 😁
I am glad to hear that these animals still keep your heart beating fast!
@@sassiebrat
Lol......🤣😂😂😂😂😅😭😭😁😁😁😁😁😁
@@expeditionphotographic9673 You did a great job offering guidance to ensure that the bull wouldn't get startled.
Everyone in the car was so quiet and respectful, all the better to keep him at ease and enjoy an extended experience with him examining you vehicle.
I would have been so stoked after that.
I think that guy in the back almost had a coronary. Luckily he was young enough that his heart withstood the pressure. lol
Looks old and tired.
And rather peaceful. Grand old boy, isn't he? Wonder what happened to his broken tusk. 🙏🐘💜
Jack Rogers tusks seem short for being old, even the one that isnt fixed
@@ShadowJ667 Some elephants don't grow tusks at all
Gathering No Moss we are not talking about elephants in general we are talking about this particular one
@@ShadowJ667 I wonder if he is still alive today.
This interaction in my opinion strongly demonstrates the intelligence of animals, not to mention their surprising ability to show no resentment to humans despite all the terrible things we have done to hurt nature. We humans need to learn this type of behaviour.
If I even THINK I'll see an elephant, I would make sure I had some peanuts or bananas for them.
Elephant,"So, this car get good milage? Lots of trunk space. Ha ha, I made a funny.''
I was just waiting for him to take off his hat 😂😂
He is like “I just want o check if you have paid your park permit”
When he's just standing having a good old look into the vehicle, I really, really wonder what he's thinking.
I'd love to get that close to an elephant but if I did I'd be so excited I'd spontaneously combust 😊
I would be so nervous but its a beautiful elephant i love them all
You can tell he was being curious but not necessarily aggressive since he wasn’t showing any signs. I’m sure he’s seen other humans before since people drive by those paths all the time.
What an amazing experience to behold!
Big Giant Beautiful Creature...
I think I'll just walk up and scare the bejesus out of some tourists today because it's fun. LOL What a magnificent animal!
He’s gorgeous!
Lil torn up in the tusk area, but so AMAZING to have been there I bet!
It looks like this Elephant is trying to detect any bad deeds committed by anyone against Elephants, before letting them pass.
Elephant looks like it wants to interact..
Elephants are majestic
Elephant: what are you looking at...you want a piece of me...make your move...what about you back there you want some ..no... oh. Wussies, they don't make them like they used to
I have watched many elephant vids on UA-cam. This is the most amazing! Do you know this elephant? Do you ever want to reach out and touch them (I am not advocating this; it is obvious tourists are told not to do this; I have never seen it done)? We couldn't see all that was happening...did this bull ever touch anyone with his trunk?
the elephant looks disappointed. did not get a treat :-(
Give him a big scratch and next time bring with you a bag full of carrots and bannanas!!!
Ranger telling the elephant to jog on lol
What a great experience. The elephant appears to display himself for everyone. I did notice a rash on his trunk that seemed a bit sore. Do the rangers put ointments on that rash?
Hi Ryan, I do recall the ranger telling us that a dedicated wildlife team attend to the animals, so hopefully the elephant get sorted.
It is a beautiful moment. Hi ! Can I be your friend???
Did that driver tell the elephant to" jog on"😂 oh yes can just see that happening "oh ok mate NOT" 😂😂😂😂 beautiful animal just looking like we do to them ❤❤
Man I don't wanna be in any staring match with these huge fellas 😁😀 💚
Did the safari operator provide clean skivvies?
He's just searching out some food. But at 4:55 someone in the car farts. Elephant takes a sniff and thinks to himself "wow broccoli, no thanks", and walks away in search for something better.
Love your comment :-)
