I think SAFA misspoke, saying that the bike can do whatever a hardtail MTB can handle. I think he meant, HE can handle (on the Addict Gravel) whatever a MTBer can handle on a hardtail. 🤪
You and Alex do great work. I know there is a lot involved putting these together and you make it look like a simple day out for a ride. Shows you are skilled in bike handling and film production.
I would crash with that handlebar for sure. If it is used on such terain why not put a flat bar on it (or something dual purpose, if there is such a thing) ? I mean drop bars are probably very good, but I do not think they are good for rough terrain.
Cool to see a review on the trail I maintained for a few years. I hauled a shovel up the hill a few years ago to smooth out that wall ride. There was one rock that needed to go.
I love new Scott gravel bikes. Looks really clean&bold. The main cons - you can't buy new Scott addict anywhere in Europe. All we can is just watch some vids on UA-cam :D
45mm is the rear tire limit of the Sram AXS front derailleur so even if you could squeeze a bigger tire in the rear of the frame you may hit the battery
Best review I've seen here on UA-cam, I'm so interested in Scott Gravel or Ribbles bike. But your review I now made my mind up to go with Scott Gravel bike, as I do need a gravel bike 16 miles to work and back in any weather.
I love your videos. Very informative and well communicated. I ride a Kona Rove DL. I used to ride rode racing bikes 30+ years ago and I really like the gravel versatility.
You're so lucky to have both Gravel & Road Scott Bikes. I love them. I have to thank you as basically you brought my attention to Scott bikes. I am trying to buy an Addict RC 15 in that beautiful komodo green colour but its very difficult to locate it! Also thanks to you i bough my first pedal mafia kit and i love it! Can I ask what your day job is? these bikes are beautiful but very expensive! as always look forward to your videos. this one was great, thanks for providing so much detail about your new gravel bike!
The Komodo green certainly tempted me! Glad the PM kit is working out for you. I make bike videos for a day job and Scott is a main partner so that's how I get so many dreamy bikes.
So is the bike just a product placement. Obviously the bikes are awesome but when Scott give you the bike and partner with you, you have to praise the bike and can’t say anything negative or no more bikes for you 😂
For me is the perfect bike. I spend riding the bike on gravel roads or tarmac. Maybe you can change the wheels and run with 650 or 700 28 road tires. 2 bikes in one. And the weight is perfect. Enjoy the ride Safa. Big hug from Mallorca.
I ordered this bike as soon as I found out of its existence about a year ago, very few have made it to the US but the wait was well worth it. Rode it stock for the first time this holiday weekend, with no customizations like yours, in the Big Bear area, lots of dirt roads to ride there. The bike handles really well, I am a XC mountain biker and I'm used to Epic Sworks bikes, and this gravel bike can go faster on those dirt roads. On the Skyline trail type of terrain, the Epic wins, but the gravel bike is not really intended to be best at that stuff. I like the idea of changing the original tires for something similar to yours for more fun in the downhills and more rocky stuff.
Hey bro I used to ride in the big bear area lived in palm springs. Definitely worth the drive. I used to ride some very long single track at I believe it was called Angeles oaks.wondering if it's still there?
Great to hear you have one! In a similar situation. XC biker in SoCal but gravel-curious. Skyline is amazing for XC, looking for gravel trails in the area..
SAFA this video is awesome. i got my first gravel bike the Diamondback Haanjo 2 , way cheaper than yours but it works for me. cheers from Stone Mountain, GA.
Promising setup! I unfortunately can't afford to get a gravel bike like that but my Trek Checkpoint ALR 5 is quite good too, I will try to get the most out of it by getting perhaps the same tyres and having a pro bike fit for it to make it more racey in the near future. Also have you ever heard anyone finishing off a video by saying thanks to the film crew (a one man film crew in this case) for carrying the camera and backpack? What a gentleman Safa is!
I’ve been watching your videos for almost 2 years and I live in the Middle East and I’m also planing to try the road you take on Malibu Hills in LA I’m wondering if I can maybe meet you somewhere I’d be so happy ♥️
I come from hardtail MTB and the mindset of enjoying going anywhere I can as comfortably as can and finding my limit of speed comes second after comfort. But I'm extremely interested in trying road and gravel bikes for the all out lightness and speed, but the sad fact is we don't have smooth appropriate infrastructure here to suit them, no road shoulders, pot holes everywhere, no smooth trails or gravel, it's all big and bigger chunky rocky back roads and cliffy rooty trails. Yet... seeing gravel rides like this shredding still gives me the bug to want to try one. However I've heard some people talk about putting gravel groupsets on cross country bikes and doing well in races, I'm highly curious about trying that!
Just bought the Addict Gravel Tuned frame to build it up, but how the heck you managed to put 45mm tire in the back with classic AXS FD...? (they don't make the Red crankset it wide so I assume yours have the classic setup) I have like 1mm space between my 44mm rear tire (measured 44mm) and the AXS battery...
@@jakesullivan3017 I’m not sure of what’s close to you but Kal Haven Trail is a classic trail 33mi long one way. I also use Strava which is a good thread for local routes people find.
I would love to see you post a video of the same ride on your Scott Spark. Thinking of a Scott 920 gravel bike in SoCal (I have the Spark 910), love to learn about when you choose one over the other. Which Strava route is this one?
You have to get comfortable with the wheels moving around underneath you. On road that's almoat always a straight to hitting ground problem. Off road the wheels will slide here and there a bit and you need to trust they will bite again or the bike will correct itself. You can practice this by trying to make the wheels lose traction by turning too sharp. Knowing you're trying to make them slide you can have a foot ready to dab and it doesn't have to be at high speed. Just a lot of practice/play.
Can i fit a Sram red mechanical groupset to my scott addict gravel 30 or is the electric sram red groupset for gravel bikes only? I don't want an electric groupset i prefer cable shift and i am considering Sram red. Any knowledge on this?
Bike is beautiful and I get the fact that is strong, but at some point I figured out how likely it’d be for me to fall on technical terrains, so I’d probably be too worried to unleash a carbon frame in the wild like you do. I’ll stick with steel.
This inspired me to ride the backbone on my gravel (lauf) and I gotta say that trail sucks! It’s covered in weeds and brush on half the trail where you can’t see anything in n front of you. Notice that part of the ride isn’t in the video. It would be an amazing trail if it was cleared properly. Do riders like this trail? P.s. what tire pressure are u running and do u like the 50/45 over your typical 38/38 setup?
I think it's one of the most fun trails around, gets bushy this time of year and it's hard to see. That's part of the fun and riding the trail year round and seeing how it changes is all part of the beauty of riding this area. That section of the backbone trail is 6 miles long and the loop we rode that day was 40. We can't film every minute of the ride. As stated I prefer the widest tyres I can fit up front and similar in the back, 50/45 is my typical setup. I run them around 30 psi.
@@SAFABrian I will have to try a new tire setup then. I've been running 38/38 at 55 psi which makes a trail like the backbone too sketchy to be fun but for everything else its fine.
The bike is nice. but tbh I feel the clearance on the front (50c) is too small (if considering the tire may pickup mud, dirt, gravels, rocks...). Would using 50c much more grippy than 45c and compensite for extra weight and less clearance ?
Gorgeous bike. Curious about size. I am just a hair under 6 feet. But long legs and arms, but short torso. I am trying to determine what size to get in this bike. Any thoughts? Thanks. Love your videos!
