Sorry to hear about the lens, but I’m certain you’ll catch up in no time! I like your toque, Sara, and nice footage of the LEO. I’m still playing your playlists to help out your channel.
Yeah, it's nice isn't it? She got it for Christmas from a family friend and it just happens to match her coat quite nicely. Thanks for the support Tracy, much appreciated.
I'm afraid I must agree that the Scaup at 2:37 is a Greater -- the head is round overall with the peak at the very top of the head. Lesser heads are a bit more angular, with a bump that's shifted toward the back... like the bird's wearing a beret. If raptors prove difficult for you this year, definitely make one or more trips to Hawk Cliff south of London/east of Port Stanley in the fall -- we regularly get 15 species spread across Sept, Oct, and Nov, including Golden Eagles and American Goshawks, along with other interesting non-raptor species. Peace to you both!
No worries, as you probably saw in another comment, I also think it's a Greater Scaup. I bowed to peer pressure instead of sticking with my gut! I'll see if I can get a genuine Lesser soon or straighten out the count in an upcoming vid. Thanks for the tip on Hawk Cliff, just had a quick look on Google. We quite like it down that way, generally.
Great video and well worth the wait! And with a handicap no less. To my eye, that’s still a Greater Scaup near the beginning - head shape gives it away.
Thanks Norman, appreciate it. As for the Scaup... well... I agree with you. I was fairly certain it was a Greater. Sara was less confident in that analysis, so I sought further advice and that advice was quite confidently given as Lesser. I remain unconvinced and still believe that it is a Greater Scaup. But I'm going to stick with it for now and when I see a more definitive Lesser, I'll come back to it.
Thanks bud. I think a lot of it is because it's just been very wet and relatively warm during the early part of winter in this area. There's definitely opportunity to do better than last year in certain areas, though.
Great video again! So glad you counted that Western Grebe, I was able to see the same bird as I said on an earlier video. I recently found a Long Eared Owl in Guelph! Goodluck on your adventures!
Wow what a great uptick in the quality of the video production. You and Sarah are doing an excellent job with your presentations and I looks forward to each weeks release. I’m glad to see you didn’t mention the location of the LEO as l understand some people have been pestering them. Oh, by the way, what lens did you replace the 200-500 with I didn’t see it mentioned? Keep up the good.
Thanks for noticing, Keith 👍 I worry a little about those owls, but, having said that, they seem to be doing okay population wise in that area. I replaced the lens with the same one. I was somewhat tempted to wait for the 180-600 Z-mount to become available. But... then I'd be without a lens for a month (or longer, knowing Nikon) and the extra ~$400 would be stretching things for me.
Hello and congratulations on a nice strong start for your 2024 300 bird challenge! I love your new added editing touches... so impressed! You already create such engaging videos and to continue to go above and beyond is just amazing. I love the new counter in the upper right hand corner - genius! and the 300 'cutout' layer... nice touches... amongst others. I am so sorry to hear about your super telephoto lens breaking! I can't imagine how expensive that must be and how upsetting. Glad you're back and thank you for sharing all these fab sightings with us in spite of your lens setback.
Thank you Kate, appreciate it. I know you're not on FB but thought you might like to know that my Dad left one of his jokes there on a post about this video. "Owls don't breed when it's been raining. It's too wet to woo."
Thanks! We're trying to bear them in mind when we see Canada Geese. Cackling is a goose we didn't manage to see last year, so it would be good to get it this time around.
That was awesome very nice owl footage 😊I still haven’t any footage of an owl can you believe that 7 or 8 years into this and not even 30 seconds of video lol.
Thanks a lot! I ended up replacing the lens $$$ Didn't want to be without one for ages. I may get the old one repaired and sell it 2nd hand, we'll see.
Congrats on braving this beastly weather to get these shots -- and long-eared owls! Amazing. Tip: if you're downtown some day, the peregrine falcons are in residence at their nest at King and Victoria Streets, and not hard to see (and often hear too).
Great video! Maybe one day I will see you both out there :)
looking forward to seeing more!

Lesser scaup.Jyrki from Finland.
Pretty sure that weather like that is why I'm not a more serious birder. I'll stick to my kitchen window! LOL!

Fantastic!
Thanks 👍
That was great footage of the long-eared owl. I recently saw a merlin near my house.
Thank you Nathan, was happy to see them.
Merlin is a fun bird to see! 😊
Amazing footage of that Long-eared Owl. You'll catch up to your goal. Every year is different, but you'll get a burst of birds here soon.
Thanks bud.

Thanks a lot 👍
Magnificent bird, that Long-eared Owl 😊
nice video! Lovely owl
Thanks, hopefully more to come. Not the easiest birds to find!
Fantastic shots of the owl. King Eider is always fun to see.
Thanks Cliff, was fun to see the LEOW. Apparently there's eight of them 🤯

Thank you so much for the lovely observations, very encouraging and means a lot 😊
That's all the things i wanted to say and never got around to
Just saw your reply now. Thanks a lot, appreciate it 👍
Nice 😍 😍
Greetings from India 🇮🇳
Love your Vlogs 😊
Thank you! Welcome 😊
Always amazes me at just how many birds over there are similar if not the same as ones over here. Great vid, stay warm and safe though :)
Thanks, will try 🥶😆😆
Another great video! And wow!! The owl is magnificent! What a treat for you to see and great footage of it 😍
Thank you Kate, appreciate it.

@@BritHikesOntario😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 perfection from your father once more
Keep an eye out for cackling geese. Some of those Canada geese in the background look pretty small.
Thanks! We're trying to bear them in mind when we see Canada Geese. Cackling is a goose we didn't manage to see last year, so it would be good to get it this time around.

Haha.. ah well. Maybe we will see something cool in a couple of weeks. Thanks Rick.
@@BritHikesOntario looking forward to it
Sorry to hear about the lens. Hope the manufacturer will replace/fix it!!
Still a great video! I aspire to be able to ID like you both can
Thanks a lot!
I ended up replacing the lens $$$

Thanks for the tip, might have to go looking for some urban ones if we don't have much look with Peregrines.

Saludos desde Canadá, Juan. Gracias por mirar y gracias por tu comentario.
Really cool series. I like your challenge for 300 species. I hope for 250 in germany. New subscriber here. I film wildlife aswell. Greets Stefan
Thanks Stefan!
Good luck with your search for 250 birds 😊
Great video! Maybe one day I will see you both out there :)
Looking forward to seeing more!
Thank you Heather, don't be afraid to say "Hi" if you do 😊
