You can tell that professional miners dug the tunnels; by the consistency of the arch at the top and how narrow the passages were between rooms. They were wasting no time making the passages wider; they knew the rock wouldn't hold the tunnels' shape if they did. Looks like there've been a couple falls over the decades in wider spots, so they were right.
This place i remember well as a kid.Apparently it was the test site for Britain's Blue Streak missile back in the 50's and 60's which was abandoned because of cost and the fact that we ended up buying polaris off the yanks.I notice you never found the concrete road tunnel that leads in from the top part of the cliff apparently there are over seven and a half miles of tunnels leading off from that lot. I've never seen that group of tunnels so it was a bit of an eye opener for me.Nice one😊👍
Thanks for watching! That's so cool that they are recommending my video 😅 Its a real shame that the lift shaft doesn't work as the sea level tunnels are really awesome to explore.
Creepily claustro - brilliant filming... really felt like you were there and gave a sense of where you were and how the thing was laid out. Nice editing and camerawork.
We're quite lucky here on the Isle of Wight for bunkers and wartime stuff as there's quite a few sites dotted over the island and fortunately most have not been vandalised and damaged. Thanks for watching :D
Yeah this place is super sketchy, don't let the calm weather fool you, I went back a couple of months ago and it was super dodgy ended up pretty much swimming back! Thanks very much for watching! 😁👍
Hi Larry it was connected to the Needles old battery which is now open to the public and owned by the National Trust, the sea level tunnels were designed to counter torpedo boats and they were dug out of the cliff face in 1887(ish) In the 1950s, the battery was used for Black Knight rocket testing but I think that the sea level tunnels were already cut off by then, as far as I know they were last actively used in WWII as a searchlight position. Thanks for watching!
I used to live on the I. O. W in the early 90's & its true what they say, "once you've lived there, a part of you always wants to go back" Just returned from taking my kids to show them the island... Thay loved it. Shout out to the caulk heads💓

ohhhh amazing!!!! I was there 1 week ago but i didn't go to the beach :( I didn't know this tunnels existed....next time I will explore properly. Thank you for sharing.
This is so amazing I had to watch it twice at the level of work and time to do that and the thing that makes it even more amazing is the terrain and how hard it would have been to achieve all that from the location and position to access and dig. The other amazing thing is the shier genious of the positioning and how indestructible this fortress would have been. All the enemy would have seen is bullets and canons flying from the side of a mountain. All they would be is a target and they would only be able to return fire on a rock face. You can't even flank them because the entrance is half way up the mountain and you would be just plucked off or had burning oil thrown at you. Wicked and indestructible.
I like it's. I am Imon I am Bangladeshi noakhali .but I live in bharain. I have been thinking about on this things since from boyhood time. about I think deffrent things. It my hobby.
How did those tunnels get there? It is such an enduring mystery. What happened there during the war? Another enduring mystery that will never be known.
Amazing 😉 I always wondered what was inside, never expected there to be so much. What are those “drains/water tanks”, pump and upward shaft all about? Great filming. Love the creepy music 😳 😁 Thanks so much for sharing. 👍
@@tonyball3927 These were searchlight positions for the guns above . The upwards shaft was a lift shaft for the men above to man and maintain the searchlights . The water tanks , pipes and pumps were to supply the fort with fresh water from the well drilled there .

U r really amazing.. And the sound of nature is damn good and relaxing.. 😊😊
I lived on the I. O. W when I was growing up. Seeing some of your videos brings back so much nostalgia. Very happy times.
Thank you.
Mate I wanna climb that lift this year any idea if it’s worth it I’ve heard it leads to another bunker

Fascinating...and eerie too.
Great video. I went to the battery yesterday and was disappointed not to be able to see more. They told me to watch your video. Thanks.

Wow cool video the way you film it makes us feel like we're right there!
Awesome Location you found there, bunkers and wartime tunnels are always great to explore!

Thanks for watching :D
Thats great, thanks to the mountains we have a lot of those things in Tyrol as well :D
4:34 is a triple ram water pump. Behind is the motor that ran it.
Mr Waters knows his water pumps!
That’s absolutely stunning
English Heritage should be saving these.
Thanks for sharing and taking time to document.

Really brave man bro... initially I think that it is robotic camera scenes...but it's you.. really brave man bro
Is this anything to do with the old radio satellite at the bottom of the needles?
