BRC is what brought me to this wonderful video. I loved JSR so much and BRC just improves on what I loved 10-fold. From the characters to the story to the old people, it just has so much life and joy that I missed from my days playing JSR. (Maybe possibly probably you could make a video on it wink wink nudge nudge)
I do agree BRC is a great game. It like mixes both JSR and JSRF but also has its own flare. It makes me just want to play the og again. But in HD!!!! I'm definitely gonna keep playing BRC mainly to 100% the game and get them achievements. (Even if I find the trick challenges to be difficult. But that's me)
the first Jet Set Radio game is like the Rayman 1 of skating videogames. It looks colorful, but it took you down with the very insane difficulty of the gameplay
Might be because it was 20 years ago, but jetset radio future was a lot easier for me to beat than bomb rush cyberfunk , I don’t remember raging that hard at the original 😂
13:22 Mine did, but not because I found the mechanics of the new stage difficult or frustrating- but because that's where my game disk would start glitching due to a scratch that I didn't notice until then. 😭
I play this game a couple of times with each year that passes by. I still have my original Dreamcast copy, but I usually play the versions on PS3 or my Vita. The music really made this game as the cherry on top! I just remember picking Combo for the first time, and when his introduction came in with the Rob Zombie while grinding on the train tracks…Man!!! This game definitely shows it’s age at certain areas, but if you have mastered it overtime then nothing will stop you from accomplishing this masterpiece. !!!SEGA!!!
I think it was a good thing they didnt flesh out each individual character say except for dj professor k. It makes them all feel united in this same goal. But also lets their aesthetic do the talking for them and i find that theyre more memorable for it.
I'm actually shocked you didn't talk about the fact that this game is getting a Triple AAA reboot alongside Crazy Taxi lol. There's even leaked images of what that game is gonna look like (which looks VERY cool btw). I wouldn't be surprised if they release a trailer during the Game Awards.
Thanks so much for watching!! I did see those - i didn’t mention them here since nothing has been confirmed yet but fingers crossed that both of those games are real because that would be HUGE!
Aren't they like, ditching the low-poly style in favor of a more "realistic" approach? Cuz the visual style is _why_ people love the game. Seems like a misstep if that's how it ends up.
one of the best and most interesting game retrospectives I've seen recently. really well made, script was EXTREMELY well written. the size of your channel can go nowhere but up from here with this quality
Toronto composed "Electric Tooth Brush" not Hideki lol. Really cool that you used "Just Got Wicked" during Grind City footage, since it seems like no one likes to use the more "licensed" songs while talking about these games, I understand why however. Having played both games, I love them very much and now with BRC being released I'm glad that the series has inspired numerous projects; regardless how I might feel about some, it's just nice to see. Very much aware about the JSR leak that happened in April and I don't have any strong feelings on it since it was nothing more but used in an investor video with Sonic Frontiers and P3R. Good video man.
DJ Professor K should be a streamer, in the future title. Can you imagine the thrill of him reaching for the webcam (your perspective) and adjusting it, for the ideal focus?! This is a franchise that can be itself and STILL evolve with the times, imo.
I was born in 2005 and didn’t get to play this till 2013 when I was like 8and this screams late ’90s and early 00s and my brother was born in 93’ so ik what I’m talking about Fr bc I grew up around all of it and I didn’t even get the full game just a demo on the ps3 and I loved it so much I played it till I couldn’t anymore and I still don’t know why this game hasn’t came back yet I’m 18 now and I’m sad it’s not back
I wouldn't go as afar as saying the bosses were bad, if anything, most games had that time had limitations really and most of the games actual bosses were equally 'bad' when you look at them on a 2023 scope vision. I remember them being really hard in my times just because the mechanics were frustrating rather than boring 'wait your turn'.
I have been playing games since the 80s of all genres,on all consoles/platforms, till this day, and this game is still in my top 10 favorite games of all time.
You DAMN RIGHT IT DESERVES TO BE REMEMBERED!!! Heck it deserves a re-release. Both games on one disc, cart or whatever. I loved the soundtrack and I remember when our friend would visit and bring his DC and the games. Now I see what Bomb Rush Cyberfunk was recommended as a "spiritual successor".
I enjoyed this video so much. Jet set radio future is my favourite game of all time. The setting, the music, the characters! I have so many fond memories from childhood of playing the multiplayer with my sisters too. (4 player games were mandatory in our house haha) The artstyle still influences me to this day, the colour palette is so gorgeous. I played Bombrush Cyberfunk and thoroughly enjoyed it but it definitely gave me the hankering for JSRF again, time to whip out the old xbox. This video great and well put together and you have a great voice for video essays, clear and good pace . Keep up the good work 💪💪
I yearn for a modernized version of Jet Set Radio. I once saw a Jet Set Radio graffiti mural, featuring Beat, Gum, Yo-yo, at my local train station. Sadly, it was recently replaced on the early summer, and didn't get to take a picture of it (even though I would frequent that train station daily for school). I did find a picture of the mural online, but it's half finished. The Dreamcast era is home to many underrated cult classics.
Just got the CD soundtrack for this game in the mail today at 3:59p.m. and it's the "Jet Set Radio Original Sound Tracks" CD and I'm listening to it while watching this! 7:15p.m. 10/22/2024
I still play this music all the time, it always puts me in a good mood. I've also been playing Bomb Rush and I gotta say, it's pretty much a perfect spiritual successor. It's made all the technical improvements we could want, including a lot of the ones brought up in this video, and it drips with all the style and rebellious energy from it's inspiration. If you need that Jet Set fix, Bomb Rush will definitely satisfy.
The New York or Grind City maps are the weakest parts of the first game, but also the most rewarding after finding the right routes to keep your momentum going. I overall prefer the tight and arcadey original over Future, despite some bad choices and limitations that Future and the HD remasters fixed Looking forward to JSR 3. And hopefully it includes a port of Ollie King, haven't played it in ages
I grew up playing jet set radio future on the OG xbox, seeing bomb rush cyberfunk just released, definitely gonna play it but i wish they had a digital port of both original games
I just bought the first game again after maybe 10 years since I first played it, and it’s quickly become one of my favourite games again. I’m definitely buying Bomb Rush Cyberfunk.
If you can still play Jet Set Radio and enjoy it despite the clunk, you're going to _loooooooove_ Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. It's basically, "What if Jet Set Radio minus clunk?".
For anyone that wants a proper new title to this series, play Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. It perfectly captures the JSRF aesthetic while also adding new gameplay styles and a very interesting story. Released this year (2023).
Welp, Young daredevils in question came out with something but I bet you knew about the little indie game which might be the jet set radio for new gen. The spirit of this true chaotic freedom will live on
for me personally, jet set radio future is a fucking fantastic, immeasurably good game, and jet set radio (original)’s only redeeming qualities are its music, artstyle, and the fact that without it JSRF wouldn’t exist. jet set’s controls make me want to violently deconstruct every single device that could run the game.
This video and Bomb Rush Cyberfunk made me want to go down the Jet Set Radio rabbit hole, and made banging my head against a wall for 3 days figuring out og xbox emulation worth it lol, Jet Set Radio Future is such a fun game (yes i have played and beaten the original JSR too, solid 7/10 for me).
Just from watching this video, I noticed a stark difference in gameplay fluidity between the original and sequel. The sequel definitely seems more approachable because it looks faster and floatier. I'm interested in playing both, but I think I would enjoy the sequel more.
Amazing video, can't wait to play Bombrush Cyberfunk on my PS5 on September 1st, I heard it's practically JSR 3, so I'm beyond hyped. This video does the game's justice and as a decade long fan at this point, glad more people seem to remember the series. While the issues you mentioned especially with the first don't bother me, I can't deny some of the game's issues even if they don't bother me and JSRF is like a near perfect game for me.. I say near perfect because Fortified Residential Zone is genuinely a god awful level.
Just played BRC and yeah it was a blast! Don't get me wrong though it's not a perfect game and has it's own flaws but it improves on a lot while adding it's own stuff. I loved it regardless and for me it was pretty perfect. It has become one of my favorite games I've played since getting back into gaming in the last five years. I believe it's a pretty worthy spiritual successor and would be interested to see how Team Reptile might improve and build upon the core gamplay aspects in a sequel. Hope you enjoy your time playing it and stay funky yo!
Great Video! I personally don't like Future as much as the original (I think the level design and changes to the graphiti system bring it down the most in my mind) but it's always cool to see people offering their perspective on these cult classics.
Loved this video, and Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is legit so good so I hope you found the time to pick it up!! This was a fantastic video and am def gonna take some inspiration for the vid I'm working on! Easy sub, excited to watch this channel grow 🙏
i love the JSR franchise including bomb rush cyberfunk, I'm like a former speedrunner for JSRF and I just cannot appreciate this game for its controls compared to JSRF.
I actually appreciate that there isn’t a series or a remake, the game is for early millennials Iike me, it’s something yes my kids can play or choose not to but it’s something that’s uniquely personal to me.

I am so mad that this game is still not available on the Xbox Store. I want to play this game so bad. And the annoying thing about it is this game is literally on the Xbox Store and it’s been on there for years as far as I know and it’s still not available to play. Someone needs to tell Sega to put this game on the Xbox Store so people who have never played it can play it now.
why wont sega themselves make another successor? or at least rerelease both of them together:( they’re literally my fav games n should be wildly accessible
12:25 I’m glad I played this on an emulator so I could speed up the game when going up the elevators and save scum to save time from having to get back in position to do a jump with the heavy controls. It’s the only level I did it in, and I have no shame in that
Giving Sonic a break would be really bad for the series actually, it makes fans lose interest and it is a really bad play in general, considering nowadays mainline 3D games are taking around 5 years to release, and they fulfil these years with tons of spin-offs, I think they should keep doing that and release tons of spin-offs beetween the mainline games and keep releasing the mainline games themselves SEGA has tons of studios inside the company, Sonic games can still be developed simultaneously, and if you know about the news, you know SEGA is bringing back some old IPs including JSR

REJOICE brothers and sisters, FOR SEGA IS FINALLY BACK WITH MORE JET SET RADIO
Not Yet. Almost been a year and weve still seen nothing at all.
Pure early 2000s greatness and showed me that realistic graphics aren't mandatory
Art style will always age more better.

Who could forget? It was my favourite (non JRPG) Sega Dreamcast game. 🤘🏿
Jet Set Radio Future is low key one of the very first videogame (HD) remasters. Excellent video, very well done!
Bomb rush cyberfunk fixes alot of these issues while keep the great aesthetic
Hope you watched the Game Awards yesterday ;)
This was a really sweet, well-rounded discussion of both games, i was entertained throughout. Great stuff! I wish i could play JSRF.

it looks cool but they’re literally ditching the cel shaded art style which is literally part of the reason why JSR is loved.
So I guess it will be,"Bye-bye nostalgic graphic style and hello to new graphic" I think...I'm gonna miss the graphic style a lot
