For those commenting on the slew of errors at 5:44, it was most likely a temporary ABS module glitch. As strange as it may sound, all of those systems are tied to the computer controlled ABS system. Like any computer, it can occasionally crash or glitch out. As you can see, resetting it and letting it run for a bit usually fixes the problem. This happens to lots of cars. Obviously the car will still work fine, just minus all of the modern drivers aids we’ve become accustomed to.
Thank you for mentioning the shake on acceleration. I test drove one a couple weeks back and it did the same thing! It also had a misaligned tailgate and rear door. Same lack of headroom that my dad's 2002 Ranger has. Nothing about the truck impressed me. Way too expensive for a 'new' old truck. I wouldn't buy this over any other truck.
@@TheStraightPipes I thought the same. Looks like it might actually be a 'thing'. At least the one I drove didn't go off like I hit the jackpot on a slot machine like yours did...but then I drove an XL Base, so it didn't have all the tech that pitched a fit on your Lariat...
The shake is due to dealers not lowering the tire pressure to 30psi after shipment. Anyone who test drives one should check the tire pressure on the cluster, it’ll likely be over 40psi in which case you’ll experience the shutter in the rear.
I know this is old, but I test drove multiple models. My observation was that basic Sport suspension shook. 2019 model did it and I have up on the Ranger. New 2021 did as well. Butttt the FX4 did not. Not at all. I hope the Tremor is the same way. So lesson learned, get the off-road suspension
Welcome to modern American trucks. The Japanese still understand it. The 4Runner is on a 2003 platform with an interior essentially unchanged from 2010. And it's arguably the most reliable vehicle currently on sale. Coincidence?
This is NOT a 'game-changer'! When 'mid size' crew cab pick ups solve the back seat leg , shoulder & head room ....i'll then Consider at seriously 'looking at one'! this includes ALL 'MAKES'!! Luv you guys...always ENTERTAINING !!
My wife has one of the brand-new Explorers and she's gotten the same errors. Taken it back to the dealership twice in less than 2 months. I love Fords, but this doesn't inspire a whole lot of confidence. Been waiting for the new Bronco, but this may push me to any other brand.
I was thrust into being an interim fleet manager for my previous employer, on top of my project management duties. We had about 120 vehicles in our fleet, most being Ford's between the 2013-2017 models. Fiesta's, Focus', Fusion's, F-150's, Econoline vans. The F-150's and Econoline vans were fine, but everything else was an utter fail! In fact, out of 68 cars, 41 of them needed new transmissions within the first 50,000 miles, and a few of the vehicles needed the transmissions replaced twice. What in the hell is Ford doing in their assembly plants to have so many transmission failures? Also, tons of electrical issues. I'd steer clear of the brand; that's just way too many issues for it to be a fluke IMO.
I own a couple of Fords but I think the Tacoma has the edge here. The Taco is more rugged looking, probably more reliably and I think a better interior. If anyone agrees, please respond with a gigity.
I should point out that the Ranger has Auto Stop-Start Technology. The shakes you felt when going from a complete stop might well be engine re-starting.
I liked the Patreon explanation (everyone watching this in the future - go sign up now, it's worth it). I did not like the Ranger. Bad infotainment, engine/transmission issue causing vibration, sensor failure during the review, the largest back seat is still pretty small, and the bed is small. The Ranger seems like the compromise that leaves no one happy.
Man Chris fixes old truck looks so much better than the new one... Looks lean instead of chubby. And knowing Chris fix you know it's gonna last longer..
5:52 OMG the exact same thing happened with my '14 Fusion! I freaked out because it was less than 1000 miles out of warranty, but after only a few minutes it all went away, never saw it again. Clearly not an isolated incident then :/
For the money they want, buy a Honda Ridgeline. Much bigger, more broadly usable power, far larger bed. MASSIVELY better quality and comes with more features and trim at nearly every price point.
If truck buyers made purchases with their brains and not their egos, and weren't too delicate to be seen in a "MiNiVaN wItH a BeD", the RL would sell like hot cakes
At 6'2" I hit my leg on that out cropping every time I get into it. I have a small garage, so I went with a 2005 Dodge Dakota Crew cab with the V8/Heated seats. Cherry.
I wouldn't pay more than $27k usd for a Ranger. Anything more and you're getting into F150 territory... which, if you remember, is the main reason the Ranger was discontinued temporarily; for ~$32k people would just upgrade to an F150. Seems like Ford doesn't learn from its mistakes...
That 6 speed active learning trans has got to go. Its performance is compromised to please EPA/CAFE goals to gain a few more MPG's with its idiotic shift points that kill torque. Toyota should have offered their 2.8 turbo diesel. Because they are hitting a wall with their Petrol in the taco.
Not enough margin for oems to build cheap trucks. Ford finally brought the Ranger back but its probably makes them as much money as a F-150. If not more. The MSRP is insane.
Good truck for many people. But I feel like the F-150 is a much better buy because it's aluminum and can get the 3.5 EcoBoost. I bet the F-150 tows better too if you really need to pull 7500lbs pretty often. Also appears there is no built in trailer brake controller option on ford.com for the ranger which legally limits the ranger to towing 3000lbs by law in most provinces and states since trailer brakes are a requirement above that weight limit. Just something to keep in mind for people looking to buy this truck. You're gonna have to buy an aftermarket trailer brake controller (which isnt a big deal).

Nice collaboration with Chrisfix! I have driven many of the older Rangers through the generations and was excited to get the Pipe's Perspective. I agree that it doesn't look bold enough in the front end for a truck. The rake of the hood gives it SUV face. It already looks dated, (especially in that colour) but I'm sure Ford will do a refresh in less than 3 years - especially if people are willing to spend $50K on one. For that money, I'd get a well optioned Tacoma. The Toyota will hold it resale value much better than this Ranger.
When I have to decide in my busy morning whether to watch Doug DeMuro’s McLaren F1 or StraightPipes Ford Ranger... well, the choice is clear - Thanks for keeping it real guys!!!! (Btw - keeping it real was the slogan for the Ford Territory) - Lots of love from Oz!
I have always love the Ranger. I don't have any use for a truck, but that Ranger Raptor is calling my name. I was pleasantly surprised by ChrisFix's brief appearance in this video.
5:38. Typical Ford reliability. lol. I loved my Mustang, but Ford still leaves a lot to be desired with quality control, build quality, and reliability.
Isaac Clarke except their not cheap anymore, a lot of fords when optioned equally to their competition is either similarly priced or more expensive, like the Mustang GT when equipped equally to a Camaro or Challenger RT is more expensive, and the barebones packages ford offers are absolute trash. So your wrong, maybe 10 years ago u had a point but not anymore.
Heck493 You’re right they’re not cheap anymore, and when Ford wants to charge upwards of 50K for a new mustang their build quality should be that of a 50k car. My S550 sure wasn’t.
@@jrmt6 Yeah i was looking at a mustang ecoboost purely just due to financial restrictions but when i put that godawful 10 speed on it (daily driver). It's basically 2 grand away from a Challenger R/T which has far far more goodies in it, and does a far better job as a daily driver. Ontop of all those ecoboost engine problems it's a really tough sell imo.
This video really shows what it's like to drive a ford. When all the electronics went crazy in mine though it left me stranded and took them almost a month to figure out what was wrong with it.
Completely disagree, your ford ranger looks like it was built for a small woman. I realize its a brave new world so congrats on being brave and making the transition. The new Ranger looks a lot beefier so i can understand why you wouldnt want that.
Tractor trailers that have all those extra crash avoidance systems throw all those codes when the sensors get blocked. Even heavy rain will knock out adaptive cruise, hill start assist, lane departure warnings, and ABS.
The back seat latch was actually a recall on the global models. Maybe in the new one for north america they still use the old one and its defective in your test unit, lol.

"HEY GUYS!" lol. funny Chris Fix surprise.
"FORD Help Desk...mmhmm...mmhmm...really? Have you tried rebooting your Ranger?"
Dudes...I freakin’ love Chris Fix. What an unexpected and pleasant surprise.
The shake on a dead start is the engine start stop.
No, I disabled it and it still shakes a little bit
Ford just lost 20k future vehicle sales due to this video! Electronic problems on a basically new truck??? hell to the no!
Welcome to modern American trucks. The Japanese still understand it. The 4Runner is on a 2003 platform with an interior essentially unchanged from 2010. And it's arguably the most reliable vehicle currently on sale. Coincidence?
@Ryan, l like the 4Runner too, one of the only midsized SUV's that still has body on frame, very durable.
@@Shakerhood69 ...and still made entirely in Japan. I love my 4Runner!! I have a 2012 (my wifes actually) and I'm buying a 2019 Pro for myself.
The Ranger isn't Australian, AU Ford stopped making cars a few years ago.
ask Chris to super clean the truck bed
I bought a super cab XLT with the chrome package and fx4 package couldn't be happier with it
oh crap I'll just look into the Tacoma instead.
Yep I stopped watching at the 6:00 point.. cant deal with all this fancy garbage ... my 3rd gen runner will remain in the stable
You absolutely should
This is NOT a 'game-changer'!
Love that you guys are bringing in the sponsors! Congrats guys
Thanks
I own a couple of Fords but I think the Tacoma has the edge here. The Taco is more rugged looking, probably more reliably and I think a better interior. If anyone agrees, please respond with a gigity.
Gigity
I should point out that the Ranger has Auto Stop-Start Technology. The shakes you felt when going from a complete stop might well be engine re-starting.
I liked the Patreon explanation (everyone watching this in the future - go sign up now, it's worth it). I did not like the Ranger. Bad infotainment, engine/transmission issue causing vibration, sensor failure during the review, the largest back seat is still pretty small, and the bed is small. The Ranger seems like the compromise that leaves no one happy.
Thanks for the patreon testimonial haha
Man Chris fixes old truck looks so much better than the new one... Looks lean instead of chubby. And knowing Chris fix you know it's gonna last longer..
My lane-keeping system is called a steering wheel.
🤣😁👌👌
Ranger looks like an interesting option. Good review, guys! Also that beard is looking great man!
Ford Ranger. Proudly designed by Australians and sold around the world! Great review as always! And awesome to see ChrisFix!
5:52 OMG the exact same thing happened with my '14 Fusion! I freaked out because it was less than 1000 miles out of warranty, but after only a few minutes it all went away, never saw it again. Clearly not an isolated incident then :/
Happened to my ranger too
But once its turned off its gone
This ford Ranger has been available in Botswana since 2012. the spec hasn't changed at all
Oh snap!! ChrisFix is my favorite UA-camr. Great Easter egg! Loved it.
I jumped out of my chanclas when ChrisFix made a camo! 🤸♂️🙌🔥 good job fellas👌
Yes! Shout out to the old Ranger! Lol
Yooooo
That shake I have found, seems to be due to the auto start/stop. When I shut it off, it didn't happen. This has been my experience.
The Tacoma is the best! No questions asked.
Yea no
7:58 Thank you! Finally someone understands the 1st rule of troubleshooting
I wish ford would've made the ranger a REAL small truck. This thing is freakin massive!
James no one buys small trucks. It’s the reason they stopped making rangers in the first place
They do if it's a taco
Not enough margin for oems to build cheap trucks. Ford finally brought the Ranger back but its probably makes them as much money as a F-150. If not more. The MSRP is insane.
@@Ep1cXp4nDa The thousands of people who still drive the old Rangers disagree with you. Mine is over 20 years old (1998) and it still going strong.
I hope UA-cam has 2 like buttons.. surprised by Chrisfix! 🤩👍👍
CROSSOVER EPISODE!!!! Love you guys and ChrisFix!
Oh my gods guys! Finally! I have been waiting so long for this.
Excellent video production quality as usual.
Chris Fix! Man, that voice! Great mash up.
Robert Armstrong didn’t see that one coming haha
Chris fix showing up was awesome
6:44, man glad i have a V6 Z71 Crew Cab 4X4 with a 6 foot bed!!! I forgot to add it's a Colorado!!
5:48 Your Guys Have Very Lucky Because You Didn't Get It About Starter Problem In Thailand This Problem Has Kill 2 Ranger Raptor And 1 Everest This Is Get We Have Confused About The Starter Problem So Much
Nice collaboration with Chrisfix!
The Chris Fix collab completely thru me off i thought the vid was already done and autoplay hit😂 still loved it tho i fw both channels heavy!
The look of this new ranger almost beat ridgeline effeminacy😅
When I have to decide in my busy morning whether to watch Doug DeMuro’s McLaren F1 or StraightPipes Ford Ranger... well, the choice is clear - Thanks for keeping it real guys!!!! (Btw - keeping it real was the slogan for the Ford Territory) - Lots of love from Oz!
the old ranger looks better than the new one.
I have always love the Ranger. I don't have any use for a truck, but that Ranger Raptor is calling my name. I was pleasantly surprised by ChrisFix's brief appearance in this video.
The truck may have fixed itself, but it broke itself first.
It's a new vehicle. No excuse for that.
These guys' style always on point omg
Isaac Clarke 50k+ isn’t cheap. That’s German Luxury Car territory.
Lol lol lamo rotfl lol lol ttyl
This video really shows what it's like to drive a ford. When all the electronics went crazy in mine though it left me stranded and took them almost a month to figure out what was wrong with it.
I still think my nearly 20 year old ford ranger looks better than the new one🤷🏼♂️
I still drive my 2003 ranger. No issues yet :)
Completely disagree, your ford ranger looks like it was built for a small woman. I realize its a brave new world so congrats on being brave and making the transition. The new Ranger looks a lot beefier so i can understand why you wouldnt want that.
@@j.martin4476 As you can see here the computers add complexity and repair costs. Get a 2003 and you can do all the repairs.
Older ones look ok but the new look heaps better.
so? you want a cookie? nobody cares.
Edison NJ!!!!!! Bro I'm a north Ed boy!!!! And yes that Ford play is now a sams club, Starbucks, and top golf!
Went to colonia HS. Looking at this or jeep wrangler or tacoma
5:20 “Ah! You just have to SLAM it!”
Tractor trailers that have all those extra crash avoidance systems throw all those codes when the sensors get blocked. Even heavy rain will knock out adaptive cruise, hill start assist, lane departure warnings, and ABS.
As someone who owns a ranger I'd buy a frontier. Smaller cheaper proven and simpler.
buy the frontier before years end, because the redesign is not impressive at all.
@@billyboy4797
Can't really do that on a full time high schooler salary of $0 yearly. LOL But I do agree, get it before you miss it.
The back seat latch was actually a recall on the global models. Maybe in the new one for north america they still use the old one and its defective in your test unit, lol.
Come on Bronco! Please just put in a Coyote engine with available manual and call it good!
Rangers are incredible trucks sold my old one with 300,000 miles on the 2.3 Liter 4 cylinder
@@markplott4820 I'll pass on Tesla. Lol
