Here is my background story....
Back in my college days, I returned home from a night of partying. I opened my web browser, saw an interesting news feed article. In this article, a major auction house sold a collection of Harry potter books with all the book covers from around the World. The winner paid ridiculous amount of money over $100,000 for the collection. He bought the collection as a gift for his wife. She was a huge fan of Harry potter. The article went on to mention was not complete with one book missing...that was the 1st Printing Canadian edition...........and...........with..............Bloombury cover. I instantly knew it must be rare to be the only book missing in the collection.
I immediately did a quick search with no luck.
From that moment forward, I did searches for the book when I get memory flashes of the article. This went on for five years. Then...one random evening, I finally found it; from that moment forward, I been secretly collecting them.
I know you are one of many big content creators on Harry potter books. I have not seen it in any content creators collections.
Amazing how after all these years, the information in that article still hold true.

I live in Canada on the west coast, not too far from where Raincoast books was founded, and around here you can usually find a few early Harry Potter Raincoast books in thrift stores. I bought a hardcover Philosopher's Stone, 8th edition, in excellent condition for $1.25. I smiled while watching this video and took my copy off of my bookshelf to look through as you unboxed yours. Mine really is nothing compared to yours, but it made me very happy to find it that day. :)

Glad you found it! I think the only rare Harry Potter book I have is the first greek edition of The Philosopher's Stone from a public library, of course in really bad condition. Never took this back, the library closed that month! 😅

Hi Peter! congrats on the addition to your amazing collection! one question, what do you use to protect the dust jacket?
Imagine this guy getting burgled. Like, two guys crack open a window and are like “hey man, hey that tv, I’m gonna check out this room.” He walks into the library and is like “WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?!” It’s just all 7,000,000 different versions of the Harry Potter series, he grabs his buddy and is like “WE GOTTA GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE MAN!” No one has tried to burgle this man since, and no one ever will.

Funny how I do not get excited about some rare book but I am stoked about you being so happy about a book :D You are like a stamp collector :-) About that odd numbering - the only thing that comes to my mind about that missing "1" for the first edition is that someone thought "oh the first edition means 10-2 so the 1 is removed to show that this is the first edition" and then they realized their mistake, actually printing "second edition" instead

My paperback copy of the philosophers stone does not have a copyright page. Do you know why?
What edition is it? UK or US, etc....
Also I would check the front AND back, sometimes they print in the back

So I got a little curious and checked what editions my HP books are. And apparently my Swedish book 3 starts on chapter 22 and when the book ends it starts from the beginning and the book seems normal. Is that a known “issue”? Is that something some collector would be interested in? I just have no clue =)

This book is extremely cool as I didn't know about this whole blue cover/2nd print thing. Does this mean there is a blue cover book with 2nd print on the copyright page which is a FIRST PRINT ... and then there is a regular cover book with 2nd print on the copyright page that is the ACTUAL 2nd print?? I have five 1st prints from Azkaban on - but I only have 4th prints of the first two books!! I am jealous! lol ... but its the thrill of the hunt!! Trying to find special books is very fun!!

Late, but the reason they start with a second printing might be that it looks like Raincoast Books is a distribution platform, not a full publishing house. So they probably worked out a distribution deal with Bloomsbury UK but didn't actually buy full rights, so it was technically **a** second printing of the British book. :)

Hi Potter collector !! I was wondering if you knew the value of the Canadian 4th (technically 3rd) printings of the philosopher stone? I was at my local value village and found a copy with a number line from 10-4 (no blue hardback whomp whomp) and figured I had something rare !

I have the first edition of PS in the portuguese version. I don't know how rare it is but it has a diferent cover art then the others that came out after. It only cost me 1Euro lol and it makes me a proud owner :D
Perhaps there was a printing with a 10-1 number line but it was only a very limited run available to staff? But then again that probably wouldn’t explain none have been made available since
One thing that confuses me about Canadian editions is when each edition was published. Like, it was after the US probably, but the Paperbacks, Adult Editions, etc., were all published later. I'd love to see a comprehensive history of these Canadian releases.
I have the paperback Canadian edition with the number line at 2 like you have (my personal copy and my first HP book). I imagine it’s not valuable except to me. Loved this video! ❤️
Hello, just scrolling the messages and saw yours and I was curious. Is yours a Raincoast one? I have a printed in Canada one but it doesn’t say Raincoast anywhere and has Bloomsbury on the side but is 10-2 in the number line. It’s so hard to find info out on this and google was no help. I tried to ask Raincoast but they weren’t too helpful. If anyone has any info on this I’d be really interested. Thanks

Hey there! Couple questions, I have a Goblet of Fire book that is listed as a first edition but is there other criteria as well that would be a way to tell its legitimate? Second, I have a box set and it’s serial numbers are 3 5 7 9 10 8 6 4 2 it was printed in 2011 so I know none of them are valuable but just wanted to see if you know what that’s all about! Did the first printing of the US edition have the double "1 wand" too? I wasn't a HP reader as a child, but I think I've seen it before.
