How about titanium? I got a piece of round bar that I thought was stainless until I put the hammer to it the first time. Bounced off like I was hitting the anvil face. It took a looooong time just to flatten it out; was able to forge it into a vague blade shape and then after exhausting every abrasive wheel/disc/belt kind of gave up on it. I guess I never really tried annealing it though; that was dumb of me in retrospect. But can it be annealed? And on stainless; I've got a bar of unknown type that someone gave me, just know that it's not magnetic, and after quenching it got so gd hard that like a 24 grit resin fiber disc just would skate on it. In looking into it I found out that air quenching(?) is better? And even heating it you need like a heavy duty foil envelope (I realize not from the grocery store)? Just curious if there's a way to tell what kind of stainless it is, like from sparks or anything? And whatever wisdom you can give about titanium would be greatly appreciated!
