  • Here is a great way to control your LED lighting. A convenient floor mounted old school dimmer switch controls lighting perfectly and is very inexpensive.

    PERFECT!!!
    Exactly what i was after. Im old enough to have used this in its original form, not just to light my LED Bar. Thanks.

    Thanks for this! I am planning to use foot switches for controlling turn signal lights on my horse carriage. Your video is exactly what I am looking for. And the relay info was a bonus that I didn't know I even wanted to Use! This is perfect for the project.

    I got curious on when the first floor mounted dimmer switches were added to car/trucks...Here is what I found (I just copy pasted this) In 1925 the depressible headlight became obsolete when the Guide Lamp Co. introduced the 2-filament headlight bulb. Switching between low and high beam was accomplished through a switch on the steering column. In 1927 the dimmer switch was moved to the floor, where it stayed for about 50 years until it was moved again -- to the steering column! Actually kind of funny when you think about it lol

    • @Poweraddicts
      @Poweraddicts  6 років тому +2

      That's very interesting. Kinda funny it started out in the column just to end up there again. Just seems the simplistic design of the floor mounted would have been the one design that started it all. I would never have thought that! Thanks, that's some interesting history!

    Man I just now let this video play to the end. I have a weird playlist 😂 not much music. Jeep videos for the most part. My wife thinks I’m crazy. Thanks for the shout out man. Judging by the numbers, we’re not the only ones that thought it’s a good idea. Keep it up 👍🏼

    Think I might do this to replace the two dash switches I have for my KC offroad lights. I can never see the switches at night since it is dark so this would come in handy lol

      I havent ever run one in the Jeeps. It crossed my mind a time or two to put one in to control the LED bar recessed in my front bumper. I was chatting was a buddy on FB he mentioned the switch as well for helping out the truckers on the highway. You know .. like flashing your lights to let them know its clear to change lanes. That sparked the idea again so if the weather permits this next weekend I'll probably put it in. It seems to be clear all week when I'm at work. As soon as Im off the weather acts up. Makes it rather difficult to get anything done including the videos .. oh well .. thats life .. :-). You on my Instgram as well?

    • @yotakev99
      @yotakev99 6 років тому

      All my lights including the ones on the bumper and windshield hinges are just standard bulbs, no LEDs. So at night on the back roads I frequently flip the extra lights on and off when needed. This switch would make it much easier. LOL I have the opposite issue. Down here in Miami we just got some rain for the first time in weeks. Been dying for some rain since all our lawns are brown and dry. And yes sir, on instagram I am panda_the_jeep. Jeepoholic was a taken username there haha

    • @Poweraddicts
      @Poweraddicts  6 років тому

      I thought you were Panda. Cool .. thanks for hanging out in the different social media places! Backroads is the only time I run my big LED stuff. Kinda helps prevent hitting deer ya know. I have to keep my finger on the switch to prevent blinding any cars I may cross paths with. The foot switch will help with that. I started doing the LED conversions once the prices came down. If its what you wanted you could probably switch the halogen bulbs for LEDs in your housings. Trust me, once you go LED .. you will never look back! Much brighter and whiter light. Plus much much less electrical pull on the electrical system. I've been meaning to do a video demonstrating the quality and electrical load difference between Halogen, High output Halogen, HID and LED. I converted my buddies TJ and motorcycle over to LED, he swears by them now. I would like to find some old school round KC housings and convert them to LED for the Rust Bucket project. It would fit great with the theme that I plan on building that rig. Thanks for hanging out man!

    Power addicts, I love that LED light cube with the Amber in the middle! Where did you get that and how did you wire it up to have the LED & Amber wired separately? I wanna wire the Amber's to my marker light switch and the LED's to a floor switch!

    You said to tell you a switch I like. I think the signal stat illuminated push/pull switch is neat. The knob lights up when activated. I know police cars used them somewhat in the eighties.

    Is there anyway I can wire a floor dimmer switch to replace my OEM dimmer switch on the column? I really miss my floor switch going around corners on mountain passes.

    • @Poweraddicts

      Yes, its possible. Just have to figure out which wire to run to the switch to trigger the high beams. I'll look into that! That would make a great video. Be sure to subscribe so you dont miss the video when I release it!! Have a great day!

    I looked up a Cole Hersee Dimmer model 7762, the manufacture website didn't show the max amperage it would work with though, strange. But I expect it is fairly high as you assumed too.

    Okay... getting technical here but.... could you used this old school floor dimmer switch and wire it to a switch box? Basically use this clicker to power on and off only one switch on the switch box? IE one switch on the box for a gun safe lock in the vehicle etc. Thanks!

    • @Poweraddicts
      @Poweraddicts  4 роки тому

      Yep, sure can. No matter how you look at it, it's still a switch. Having the same main function as a dash mounted on-off-on toggle switch just a different mechanical method of doing it. So wire it up to a switch box and create some cool circuits! Have a great day!

    And I just learned recently that the only reason we moved them to the column, was because the Europeans were putting theirs on the column,
    So they moved them just to copy someone else,
    I too prefer the floor dimmer switch, I grew up in the 60s and started driving in the early 70s,
    We need to start a movement to put them back on the floor,
    My 93 Chevy K1500, coulum switch keeps breaking, I'm ordering a floor switch from amazon and I'm going to install it to the floor.
    American car engineers need to tortured for the crap they're designing and have been designing for the last few decades.
