I like the little foreshadowing Dick has when he’s thinking of his superhero name
"I never did. Why should he?" is quite possibly one of the worst things I've ever seen Batman say. It's so out of character for him.
Yeah I feel that this story was definitely out of character for Bruce when he’s always calling dick a “soldier”
It feels way too Frank Miller Batman for me. I like everything else in this story but I can’t stand Batman like this. It’s literally the opposite of that “so that he wouldn’t” line from Young Justice season 1
@@JAT-vl1ii I agree. I really liked the story but Bruce calling Dick a soldier was a bit ooc. I mean if you read Batman and Robin eternal he told Damian that he would never create a soldier. it was in my opinion a beautiful moment. and this. this just felt all wrong to me. But it made up for it at the end when Dick saved Bruce.
Yeah, I thought so to. If anything, Bruce should want Dick to have the childhood he didn’t.
Well I'm thinking maybe he thinks of Robin as his soldier now but maybe like overtime Batman begins to change his mindset I think if anyone could get through to Batman it's Alfred because Alfred didn't approve he even called Batman a bastard you know so maybe Batman just needs some character growth
I read the entire story on my own and frankly this has got to be one of the best Robin stories I've ever read. I'm really happy, you're showing others this masterpiece
Only problem with it is that Batman seems a bit weirdly out of character calling Dick a soldier like Miller’s Batman
This is the first time Killer Croc's origin is mentioned, in addition to him growing up with Dick Grayson.
We need an comic like this for each Robin especially Jason.
Man I would love a comic on the origin of Jason Todd
I'm tired of Jason man. How about a new Robin, or more Orphan
@@vernonhampton5863 Lmfaoo mans said a new robin 🤣, orphan definitely
Jason's Robin was the least interesting. He wasn't a compelling character until he became Red Hood, and even then he's not as popular and universally loved as Dick is, albeit he probably ties with Tim nowadays.
@@dasaiyantv8483 🤡
The true crimefighter always carries everything he needs in his utility belt, Robin.
17:12
when u realise that in the conner of this journal theres a doodle of a capital T with the words teen titans
I love the art... but I really don’t like Batman being like this... the argument he had with Alfred was yikes...
Already a red flag for me. The idea of child soldiers wouldn’t set well with me.
It’s super out of character for Batman
I think it's actually perfect. This isn't the fatherly Batman, this is the traumatized man-child learning how to be his best version of one
@@theunknownvoidz1409 If you compare it to the first and other versions of Batman, it behaves so differently now. I have the impression that they don't know how to write Batman anymore or especially the clear dissociation between his hero side and his human side. And it shows more and more in the recent versions. In any case it doesn't look like the batman I knew. He didn't even want Dick as a partner in the first place. The only one who really approved him on his own was Jason.
I hope that one day someone will write well batman without them acting like an abusive parent because he wasn't like that. We know that Batman is putting a lot of pressure on himself and unconsciously to it is close too. But then, I see better characterization of Batman by the fans than in the recent comics. Even the versions of the anime series manage to put each of its aspects from someone cold and hard to someone empathetic and broken. But today it's very... meh.
@@theunknownvoidz1409 But Batman has already explained that he takes in these kids so that they turn out better than he did. They learn how to cope and move on long before Bruce ever could.
The deaths and not-so batdad were a minor inconvenience tho...
I liked this- it adds to what Dick Grayson is w/o drastically changing him in any way. Kudos to the writer.
I really like the art in this. It's simplistic yet classic, looks hand done, not digital. Don't see that much anymore.
Robin, Wally (og) and Speedy interacting in the same book. How I missed this.
Classic teen titans stuff
Robin doesn’t get to eat rats here? And no “Im the Goddan Batman!” XD
Lmao
I like how Alfred is the only sensible parent figure in any DC comic
Ah this artist!! Dustin Nyugen right? Loved the Batman Lil Gotham books, and the ones with the Justice Leagues as kids, they were so fun and wholesome.
I'm a simple man. I see Dick Grayson and I upvote
Not just a simple one. Also a stupid one
@@cryharddctard1355 calm down child
Good, my son deserves it
@@thebatman. lol. More like the orphan you forced to eat rats.
@@thebatman. or rather the orphan you seduced into your costumed "crimefighting" fetish. Batman the pervert and tormentor of orphans
Dick being a D&D player somehow makes me love him even more, and he's already my favorite superhero
We had the story of Dick's early years w/ Batman... 40 years of stories. We already have a compelling story of how Dick "met" the JL. Batman's way out of character. Croc didn't show up until after Robin left for TT. How is Croc an adult but yet somehow remembers his time in the circus with a child Dick Grayson, while Croc was ALSO just a child. If Croc knows Robin is/was Dick Grayson there's no way he doesn't also figure out Bruce is Batman. But if you ignore all that this stories is fine.
I like that Grayson has the original Robin suit, here. I know it looks lame, but it’s iconic, and it’s why it’s so symbolic when Jason dies in it and Tim comes in with the new version of the Robin suit. Complete with pants, dark colors, actual function, etc. Giving every Robin their version of Tim’s suit just makes Tim being Robin all the less special.
I feel you but I don’t think things like the young justice show and the arkham games would work with that suit for Dick
I actually like this suit
tim's suit isn't what made him special lol, and giving the other robins freaking pants isnt stealing from him
I hear you. I want each Robin to be more defined & polish too. Tims suit is a good place to start. Maybe make his mask hi-tech dark glasses that lock to his face with features like protection from light attacks, night vision, disguise detection, gases visibility. For the suit dark colors but maybe have it with a high midriff body armor with small backpak feature behind his cape for added storage kinda like Halo to play up his slim small waist, light frame body type while still allowing him to move maybe buckle straps off center to one shoulder to update the look.
Beautyful story n a prove that todays comics, illustrated by storyboard artists aren't ugly cuz they're simplistic, but cuz they're ugly. It's refreshing how good this one looks while being done in that scetchy style. There were a few parts where it became a lil' too dialed back but all in all it looks really cool.
Id love to see a mini series with all the robins history and other adventures. I definitely want to see more of this and one of Jason's myself. And ofc Tim Drake and Damien's and spoilers. Fuckin hell I'm fan boyin out ovrr here .. this is amazing.
I gotta say I really really enjoyed your dramatic character reading of this story. Like the Batman voice? And Dick’s spark? You nailed both of them and just all around this was a super fun really cool read through. Thank you for uploading this! 😁❤️
The art style for this comic is interesting
Yea… idk how I feel about it
This was a really good story; took us by surprise this was a more Robin/Dick centric story. Thanks for making a video on it!
Rest in peace
I’m going to buy this comic right now at the comic book store, I love the artwork to it too
I thought Croc didn't show up until Tim was Robin.
I think he didn’t show up until Jason was robin
That was awesome love it when they do previous robin stories
This was so good .thank you
Love it I really like the art style
Benny we need more of these ASAP!!!
5:20 the narrator has some serious mommy flashbacks lol
This is a better version of all star Batman and Robin, CHNGE MY MIND!!!!!!
With dc always showing alternative universes I wonder if their a comic where what if Batman never had a Robin. Basically in a alternative universe Batman never has a boy wonder and all the robins reasons for joining or meeting bats never happens. If a comic like this exists let me know
The art is so phenomenal and unique
That was cool & I liked the art style
I don't know why it's becoming a topic so much for me this month but I prefer Batman Chronicles: The Gauntlet and their take on Robin's final test. I just don't like the idea of Batman taking the "War On Crime" thing so literal, and prefer the thought that Robin is supposed to be a positive release so Dick doesn't turn out like Bruce. I mean, people are welcome to like what they prefer, but that's my deal.
Dick Greyson is the best thing that happened to Bruce Damian is the second lol
Thanks!
This is the best Robin story! one of my fav. Robins !
I dropped reading comics a while back last year but this story has me hype
Heck Yeah! the Comic Book Story is finally here.
my fav robin, jack of all trades master of none, but overall best boy
I literally just found the channel and was lookin for this
This is really nice
Damn this was amazing!❤️
The batman of dark knight returns was cool because he was clearly insane with his 'good soldier' rambling.. His personality was never supposed to be a template for batman. This batman is almost all star level of ridiculous. Bruce wayne may have ptsd, but he isnt a sociopath or a psycho. He wouldnt go around readin little childrens diaries or require them to be so detached as to always have plans to beat their friends up. Even if he did, he wouldnt treat robin, a little orphan, so roughly, particularly as he adopted him out of compassion. The scene with dick saving batman is the worst. Batman didnt become a surrogate parent but a task master who must be made happy in order for dick to be happy. The art looks great but this story is horrifying.
Love to see you do a Batman 89 full story
Epic As Usual!!!
The adventure time sword to the right 6:58
This was a really nice story
Thank you benny!!! 🦇
Yes Batman all the time!!! I love it!
Also. More Robin stories, please 🙏
My favorite Robin story
Amazing
I thought it was sweet of Bruce to take Dick to the JL HQ (was it the Hall of Justice?) but then omg
I love this channel. Thanks for the upload. Watching it now!
Dick Grayson is my favorite hero of all time dudes just awesome
7:08 Is that Finn's sword????
This comic is 🔥
Awesome
I’m definitely getting this book
These voices are hilarious. Chill out my guy lol
I prefer Robin to be The first sidekick not The last one
Grayson is my favorite robin abd Dc character of all time but it’ll always be weird to see a child casually overpower grown men and interrogate them it’s just a bit of a reach for me
Go to a highschool and wrestle with their top 20 those kids are gonna pin ya over and over
They even get kids teaching jiujitsu that grew up with it
@@mangodango1733 all robins as kids are depicted beating on bad guys before highschool tht I cant understand I wrestled & played football In Highschool and witnessed freshman in my weight class (220) dominate but thts highschool I’d understand if he was trained since 9-10 then let out for real missions when becoming a teenager entering highschool, but a 10-12yr old knocking a grown man around is kinda silly also great to be amongst another wrestler so props to u pal(if u wrestle cause ion kno)
I like how they added the titans to the series
OMG I'm geeking out, this is the drawing of Mr. Nguyen = Lil Gotham!!!!! I MUST HAVE IT, but of course there is finally a comic of Dick at the beginning of being Robin 🥰
Omg yes love it awesome just awesome
This book was brilliant
7:16 HAWKGIRL GOT A DUMPY!!!
6:56 Ayo is that Finn's sword from adventure time??
Can you do a long one on Titan, version of hulk maybe?
They should've called this series The Greyson Chronicles
Bro if we keep doing live action batman movies and don't do some good ol Bruce and Dick greyson I'm gonna LOSE it
How old is Robin in this one? I am trying to build my own dc universe cohesive timeline.
This has true heart and meaning to them as father and son
More like an old pervert and his prey
It really doesn’t, Batman/Bruce is really out of character towards Richard in this and is just plain abusive towards him
All the Dick Greyson stuff lately has been great- this and the Tom Taylor run.
Sweet 👍
I like the story and it's similar to the origin with the young justice show
I think I understand why Batman is the way he is. He doesn’t want Robin to die, firstly. That’s why he’s so hard on him when Dick’s reckless. I mean, I kinda agree with Batman how dangerous Robin’s first costume was and, I also agree to this, it’s ridiculous. Keep in mind he’s done things in this book that aren’t excusable. But I think I know why. Besides him not wanting to die, Bruce just doesn’t want Dick to go through what he did. That’s why he makes him keep tabs on his new friends. Kinda encouraging him to ditch school to help with Killer Croc’s case only to relent and make Dick go to school seconds later. In all this, he’s the better version of ASBAR. He’s a jerk but there’s a reason. He’s trying to make Dick the better version of himself. But, as Alfred points out, he isn’t Bruce. I haven’t read the book myself but I hope to God Bruce learns this lesson. You know, as accepting Dick as Dick Grayson and not the next Bruce Wayne.
Wow this comic is so cool Robin actually saves Batman let's goooooo
One of the worst written Batmen, similar to Dark Knight Returns 2 and All Star Batman. Batman is meant to be about compassion and taking Robin under his wing to show him how to channel his hurt and pain so that he doesn’t turn out like him… not just some sad old man who creates child soldiers and robs them of their childhoods.
This!
This artist will never be accused of being an Alex Ross wannabe but his work is strangely interesting on a fifth grade level.
I like how Dark Batman is don't give me wrong how he treats Robin isn't right. But he is the DARK night first before everything and his training to be Batman was crazy difficult He is hard on Dick not for punishment but he wants him to become stronger and he thinks this is the only way. I like that his character is flawed. He is great detective, fighter, multilingual, tactical leader but kinda sucks as a father but he grows and gets better.
Dustin nugyen is my favorite artist
Do all the robins
Can you guys do that Batman Knightfall
16:43 no context
Ayo, theres an adventure time reference at 7:01
Where?
@@DrCrazyEvil The sword Scarlett or atleast a replica can be seen in the wepon vualt
@@Sly9192 ah I'm guessing more adventure time did an homage to it then if this came out earlier.
well if batman was a REAL person he would be reported to child agency actually any child an obvious child would be reported and batman would have to do with a public backlash in ANY decade he would have lived in.
Is this the orgin for the new 52 Dick Grayson robin
I’m a fan of batman
The Og boy wonder
Thanks you 😘
Will get the trade
Cloak & Dagger?
Not really a fan of this art but story is good
Frank millers Batman?
💪💪💪💪
5:28 I think this line is really good at showing how badly Batman wants to be a good caretaker, but is too blinded by his own ignorance on the subject to pull it off. That’s the thing I hate about the new Batfamily webtoon, and that is that Bruce is way to nice and fatherly. Batman, despite his best efforts, is not a good caretaker. He can barely take care of his children, hell, he can barely take care of himself. And it’s all because deep down, he is a child, the same child who watched his parents get gunned down in crime alley, unable to move on from that moment. But it’s his effort to move past that, to move past his trauma and be the caretaker his parents and Alfred were, that makes him such a sympathetic and moving character.
Let's go
