1:35 This is something I love on your channel: You show us the REAL thing. You show us what went wrong and what needs to be done in order to solve the problem. That makes total difference! You show us what most of other people also go through (but don't show us). And in the end you still have got all that energy and positivism. Man, I really love your videos. Obrigado.
Just another thought Andrew, let’s see a builder paint a giraffe and see it at the end ! 🎉your blogs always lead to me looking for places in Portugal! Staying happy and positive 🏴
Oh, I cannot wait for the before and after photos on this home. The outside is already a night and day difference and you haven’t even gotten to finishing touches. Prep work is everything. When I paint I scrape the walls, then wash them, primer them, and THEN I paint. When I am done it always looks like a new build. You can use the best materials and have the best skills, but if your prep work is shoddy the job is shoddy. The new owners will appreciate your having taken your time to get things right.
10:30 You've got to bring a beach umbrella to the work site, it will help you a lot with a little bit of shade. I've lived under all those hot days for the last 48 years and I really understand what you've gone through under that sun...
I am so happy to hear you are listening to your body mechanics! Slow and steady always wins. The end result will be beautiful. Take care and I love to see the progress (even if it's slowly happening) I think your ideas are smart make sure preparations are complete before moving ahead.
Man I really hope you've made a fortune on this house. The amount of work the guts the heat in Portugal is crazy. This is a gigantic undertaking . Brilliant attitude and work,
Always listen to your body. It knows best. I used to push myself more, but I can't do that anymore. Anyway, for someone without building experience, you are doing a great job. Great vid as usual.🙂👍👍👍👍
Love the roofline-skylight opening, would be great to install a transom style window instead of glass brick. I applaud you working in that heat, I can only imagine how difficult that is.
Been waiting for this video, I'm intrigued by all the little bits of masonry work & how you make use of what you have. I think the dogs had the right idea...a swim!
Fascinated by the clouds 🤣 that are hardly moving. You’re having some nice weather already. Loving your design ideas, it’s going to be a stunning house 🏠 keep calm and also chill out 😎
Great Move, Andy. Always listen to your body. Ignoring those body messages can set you back weeks in fact. You accompanied so much in that heat. You’re so amazing. Love your work style ! Enjoyed todays video! ❤️
Very wise to heed your body!! I was holding my breath a bit when you were on the ladder over the decayed floor!! Glad ‘No one was hurt in the making of this blog’!!
Glad to see that you’re eating and drinking water. A couple of weeks ago you mentioned that you forgot to eat that day. Got to take care yourself. Looks like you’re doing good work by the way
Looking good Andy, still plenty to do, and like you say, it's always the prep work that takes the time, especially if it's something you haven't done before. Gonna look great when it's all done though
You are absolutely right Andrew, listen to those signals…every time I have ignored them, injuries or mistakes have resulted…This is certainly the tedious part but again, coming from Quebec where most construction is wood, I find it fascinating to watch you crack on with bricks and mortar…and ciment. Once you get the roof on the world will change significantly! I am looking forward to seeing how you secure the roof joists/beams. Can’t wait to see the next video. Thanks again for letting me live vicariously through your labours of love!
Thank you. Had to be difficult filming in that heat. Never worth over doing it and getting heat exhaustion. Takes forever to feel right again after you over do in the heat. Love the hat btw!!! Thanks again, have cold one you've earned it!
You can make straight beams and add the bend’s the tie wire only there to stop movement when pouring the bar will always serve its purpose if stays in its situ
You could easily gain one more row of glass bricks and have a bigger window opening. There was ample space over it before reaching the roof line. You could just pour the cement lintel in place of one line of the large bricks over it...😉
If this was in the US, I would definitely get an engineer to sign up on this. Structural work is potential liability, and your resale value depends on it. Money well spent in the long run and it CYA.
Hi Andy, I lived and worked in Spain during the summer, to keep my water bottle cold during the day, I froze my water bottle like the one you have been drinking out of, and during the day the water gradually melted keeping the water cold til the bottle was empty, you should try it one day and see the difference.
Andy your work ethic is beyond reproach, the love and care you put into every aspect of this build is evident in your videos. I keep thinking could you hoist the cement mixer up to the area you're working on to obviate the bucket runs ? ..I'm sure you will have a good answer for me...
Love watching the progress and your work! Thanks for sharing so much of the nitty gritty of what goes into doing projects like this, it's inspiring and insightful for someone who dreams of someday doing something similar. Are there any legal/procedural annoyances that are involved in the renovation process? I assume there's a general permit process for construction, but did you ever have to submit specific plans for approval, or do you have to have inspections done? How over-your-shoulder is the state/legal side of this once work begins?
Trying to figure out why I couldn't hear anything you said. Perhaps the volume control at your end went haywire. I couldn't even lip read... that's so sad to not hear anything even with my head set on high volume....better luck next time I hope. It's looking real nice love the artistic flare you have.
Love the "eyebrow" window. Are you tailoring the finished house towards the Portuguese or Ex-Pat market? Different amenities? Your neighbor has embraced solar -- are you thinking that also? I so look forward to your updates :o)
Thanks. I don’t really tailor. I consider who is most likely to buy and try to tick as many boxes as possible. Allow space for the new owner to change or add their personality. On my house I’ll have solar water tank but until the prices are practical and affordable I have to stick to mains.
I will be somewhat relieved when all the roof work is done...don't be on your own. On those dodgy floorboards Andy. I think you are a very skilled man..but ladder work is horrible to watch. 🥰
Could you tell a little about the original building style of those old houses ? Stone, shist, and what there is,, is it held to together by weight and clay or dirt ? how does it hold up ? how does it like mixting with todays building materials and so on ?
There’s a loaded question. I’m no expert. Stones and clay. The walls are easy to take apart starting from the top but they are seriously strong and very thick. All interconnecting. So with earthquakes for instance they Absorb the vibration.
@@rusticcrow Yeh from the top they look extremely fragile, which is very noticable when the roofs give in on ruins, the wall tops then really take a beating from wind and rain, always found those ruins interesting, but knowing way too little about it, comming from a place where bricks and cement are the common building materials, oh and i guess foundations too. Why do you think its a loaded question,, its surely not intended as such 🙂
@@splynk1 loaded only because I’m not an expert but I gave an answer best I can based on my own research. Also they didn’t use to have deep foundations because of earthquakes apparently. The lower into the ground the more vibration. I did notice that when I was down the well. 👍
Please don't take this as a criticism, but my brother is a builder, down in Tor near Loule. He thinks people may struggle to get a mortgage for this building ( when you sell ) without an architect drawing for the structural ring beam.
Hello dear, I am a fire alarm system technician, I am a technician of CCTV cameras, I am a technician of solar panel and also an electrician. Can you give me a job?

Andy of course you have to go sooner from work, now you have girafe to feed.... 😊 Glass windows are very cool, nice job... 👍
I enjoy your content. Nice touch on the music too. I imagine the building keeps your mind pleasantly busy and the body fit.

Poor Bert❤, my dogs always had trouble in spring. Usually because of grass seeds, sharp as needles would embed in the ears and eyes.

Hi David, I do that a lot but funnily not at this house because I nip to the cafe. It definitely works and stops you drinking all at once 👍

One way or another you have to run buckets up. I’m sure I’ll get plenty of ‘why didn’t you’ or ‘you should’ve’ advice after we’ve done it. 😉👍
