Applying fertilizer on maize: How to do the correct timing.

Today was the first day after the onset of the long rains. We anticipated it would rain again, so we applied fertilizer on the maize field. And sure thing, it rained again!

I feel you are loosing high amount of nitrogen though as you arent placing the fertilizer beneath the soil while nitrogen is the number one need for maize...

You need to do a soil test to determine the quality of your soil as per the crop you are doing whether virgin land or not. That is when you will know if you need to use it or not.

Nice work! Just wanted to ask, why don't you cover the fertiliser as. It can be washed away by the rains?

We were doing this under irrigation so the amount of water going into the field is controlled. The fertilizer is quickly dissolved by water and absorbed in the soil.
