Many thanks for the tip on how to deescalate such a situation. Such confrontational moments are quite the game-changers in both business and life in general.
As someone who did years of nightshifts and having to sleep in hotels or bed n breakfasts in the middle of town, at no point would I have complained to anyone who was making everyday noise while I tried to sleep. If you can't sleep over normal daytime noises, don't work nights. Very simple solution.
I'm not sure that you're someone who could say "Very simple solution" to just quitting the night shift. I have never been in a precarious situation where finding decent work at decent hours was difficult, but I'm sure some have.
@@dale9042 But it IS a simple concept, very simple. If someone is incapable of sleeping during normal waking hours because of noise, the onus is on THEM to change their hours of sleep (or as another poster said, use earplugs), not on the rest of the world to stay quiet during the daylight hours. What about that isn't simple?
@@MrZoolook Some people may not be as fortunate as yourself to be able to drop a job because they don't like to be placed on a night shift. Therefore, a solution by quitting their job isn't a "simple solution" because it may not be possible for everyone. If a person were to be allergic to ONE specific food item, such as a candy bar, a SIMPLE solution would be to not eat the candy bar anymore, and find alternate food options. This IS a simple solution because hardly anyone wouldn't find this solution to be applicable. However, quitting a night shift job is something that has many variables to consider that are likely beyond you and I.
@@MrZoolook They should search for solutions more like what the first reply said... whether that's earpluggs (which could irritate the ears), or sound-proofing the walls, or sleeping deeper within the house.
Dealing with difficult people is a gift...u have it...the world cannot stop because you sleep when others are working...but you met him more than half way...👏👏👏👏
It really blows when the neighbor get's upset, it certainly leaves something to be desired. I'm glad you resolved it and were still able to rake in some green. With customer skills like yours, work should be piling up on you in the future. You got this one in the bag!
I’ve worked night shift my whole life and I definitely understand his frustration. I get frustrated by noises during the day as well but I have to remind myself that they r doing nothing wrong and it would be very selfish of me to expect ppl to stop living their lives just because I sleep during the day. This guy was completely in the wrong and it was very smart the way u turned that situation in ur favor. Keep up the hard work my guy.
It can also be quite frustrating when you ask your neighbors nicely if they could do their yard work in the afternoon instead of 9am on the weekends, they agree but then do yard work at 9am anyway. My old man used to work 3rd shift when I was little and he had a pretty good method of helping with this. He had only one neighbor that wouldn't stay true to the "lawn work truce" as he would call it. So every time the neighbor broke it, my dad would go out at 3am and mow his lawn. When the neighbor would complain he told him "it's got headlights for a reason". This would usually keep the guy in line for a bit haha.
Being a night shift worker myself, you sir, are a hero. If I had this situation come up (luckily I'm a heavy sleeper during the day) I would give you any and all business I could afford and refer you to every one I know. Well played sir!
Yup. Worked graveyards for a long time. Never got pissed at the world expecting everyone else to be quiet especially during the daytime. Ear plugs were the solution.
Seriously, I worked graveyards too and understand that people need to get stuff done during the day. I expect not to get told to stop when it's my turn to do loud things during the day.
as a graveyard worker nothing turns me into a karen than the family that lives underneath my having kids running around slamming doors so much that its shaking my bedroom floor. but when i ask them nicely to stop the grandparents give me the old "my grandbabies are angels!"
@modjoe4107 I think that's a bit different cause the kids next door do that all the time when they are out of school. Like even when I'm not trying to sleep why the heck does it sound like your bouncing a basketball against the wall.
People are so bloody entitled. Back in the day we turned the music or tv up to drown out the noise. We knew if people paid for gardening services or finally had a day of to do yard work to leave them alone. Everyone's trying to live their lives. Unless someones bleeding dying or dead. Mind your own business and sort yourself out. Brotha your a better person than me ❤
I used to be a night shift nurse and it was horrible when I couldn't get that sleep during the day. My dog would cuddle with me while I slept but always insisted on barking in my face to make sure I was aware she heard something outside even though the back door was always open so she could go as she pleased without waking me 😅 Honestly I'm glad you understood why he was upset and found a compromise that works. And you made a customer out of it.
You sir, simply rock!! Way to turn around what could have potentially been a very aggravating situation. 😁😁😁 It's a shame you're not in my area. We would hire you in a heartbeat based on your integrity alone!!❤️
It's funny how you can tell when people are bullshitting. I've done the night shift, come home so tired I don't wake up no matter what. On top of that, what do you think the person who owns that home has to do when they need to mow the lawn, mow it at night just for their neighbor who works them? This is all complete bullshit that the neighbor made up to guilt trip this guy into giving him a discount or even do work for free. I feel nothing but the deepest level of pity for someone that isn't educated in being taken advantage of, to not know when it's happening to them.
You handled that way better than most people would. But i cant understand why people are like that... Like you work the night shift.. loud noises when youre trying to sleep is part of it.. getting mad at everyone who has to work just to deal with your schedule is so entitled. Should have told him that he should probably get a set of ear plugs.
The type of leaf blower he is using here is an industrial one, which are significantly louder than normal leaf blowers. They're loud enough that they can cause hearing loss if you aren't wearing ear protection when using them. My dad used to have one and when it was running I could be in the house with ear plugs and it would still sound like I was sitting beside a blender.
As someone who has struggled with getting quality sleep (and who uses good sleep hygiene for better mental health) I can absolutely relate to that neighbour. Folks, try to be patient with people when they say they need their sleep.
@@dw9944 wtf, they literally save you from going def when using loud machines 😂😂 🤡 companies can't always afford to reschedule, dude got away with it because he's a small company plus basically made the dude pay to reschedule

That was perfect way to not escalate the situation as most people would have told him off and not gave a damn! So being polite worked out best for everyone, unless he did not pay you! Everyone these days needs to be more polite especially until you know the situation! Great job!
After working 2nd shift for 11 years, I appreciate the effort you made for him! I wish there were more people like you out there!
2nd shift is not night shift
I working closing shift at tacobell and get home at 3 am most days the guy in that story was an asshole the world isn’t gonna stop for one person he he could get ear plugs to help with the noise
I worked nightshift and was never a bitch about it like that guy 😂
@@samuelshamston8275 um... my second shift job is from 4pm-2:30am.. but go on act like you know.
the world doesn't stop because you chose to work on a different time frame
Thank you for bring so considerate. As a nurse who works right shifts it is so difficult to get enough sleep.
I wish lore people were so understanding
A little kindness can go a long way, the world needs more of it
I agree, the neighbor should have been kinder and not been a selfish entitled person.
Lol tell me you don't work retail without telling me you don't work retail ...
Guess you never met Karen's or Richards these days ...
Amen
I worked 10yrs on nights in the UK and never asked anyone to just stop what they are doing during their day as it was my way of getting more money for our family. I made our room with make shift soundproofing and supper block out curtains as it was my choice to work those hour's but fairplay to you dude.
I just put in earplugs
That's really good of you. I understand where this guy was coming from. Its the worst thing to be trying to sleep and you can't because people are making noise. But he cannot expect quiet in the middle of the day. It's just ridiculous.
This is most likely in United States. They whine over anything
Honestly after I get off I be so tired I sleep like the dead after getting off graveyard shift. It helps I live alone but at this pointing someone could be screaming and ill sleep peacefully
Pills. Sleeping tablets for the first two nights. Two solid day sleeps and I'll get enough on the other 3 to get through the week. Also, have a big breakfast before bed. Waking up from hunger is so self defeating
I love all your creative solutions and how you genuinely listen to people.
He is obviously making all of this up. He records his work and yet we never see said “neighbours”. Shocked people still aren’t noticing. It’s just a marketing ploy.
Real good community mindset on you, dude, love to see it.
The way you handled rhat was amazing. This video didn't highlight someone that was acting entitled, but highlights a different way of handling a situation. Nicely done!! ❤
It's so weird to us non Americans. The kind of rude aggressive behaviour from neighbours you have to navigate over there is so alien.
You're very good-natured God bless you for that.
Way to go with the legendary conversion! ALSO the primo bonus of all the leaves off the second yard not blowing back into the first neighbors yard. Just excellent service!
Thank you for your empathy with this night shift worker. You are also gifted with an excellent business acumen. Well done!
You are so nice! I am crazy cranky when my sleep is disturbed, but it dissipates with time - he was probably embarrassed for having started out so angry and you made it a win all the way around.
You are a class act. Thank you
Turning a complaint, into a customer. Fucking legend
“I understand why you’re frustrated” is always a good way to escalate the situation
You're great for understanding and working with him while keeping your original customer happy.
It's amazing how well you handled the situation
That's the mentality of success.
Bless you! Such a great soul you are.
Win-Win!
Now THAT is how you handle disputes. Kudos to the neighbor and to you for handling business like adults win/ win
I spent about 8yrs working night shift. People doing yard work, roofing, construction/renovation has never bothered me while I'm asleep. Even if it did bother me, I wouldn't tell them to come back later. It sounds like that the neighbor just wanted something to complain about
Well that’s just it… it’s never woken you up so you don’t know how you would react. Some super nice people are just very cranky and mean when they get woken up it’s how it is
Complain? He was willing to pay for his sleep!! Idk if thars complaining he's even polite about it
Some people may have sleep disorders or wake up easily or have a hard tine falling asleep not as lucky as you
True, if you work night wear ear plugs
Imagine going up to somebody literally working at their job and asking them to come back later lol... Huge balls 😂
Amazing how you turned this awkward situation and change it to your advantage. Pure genius 💯👊🏾
Many thanks for the tip on how to deescalate such a situation. Such confrontational moments are quite the game-changers in both business and life in general.
He makes this stuff up. But it’s a good lesson either way.
That is a growth mindset! So many people with an ego would let that interrupt their goals. Genius
As someone who did years of nightshifts and having to sleep in hotels or bed n breakfasts in the middle of town, at no point would I have complained to anyone who was making everyday noise while I tried to sleep.
If you can't sleep over normal daytime noises, don't work nights. Very simple solution.
Yep earplugs.
That just goes to show you , that using your brain can save you from painstaking conflicts.
God Bless this man
🙏🙏
Dealing with difficult people is a gift...u have it...the world cannot stop because you sleep when others are working...but you met him more than half way...👏👏👏👏
Hi Karen, you should try working night shift. Then talk
@@julial3758 Nobody owes you anything for working shitty hours. Want to sleep while most people are awake and working? Deal with the consequences.
I hope someone will play music at a super high volume when you need to sleep. Then you can just suck it up and deal with it xD
@@GwyndolinEnthusiast ok karen
@@julial3758 You should buy some earplugs if you sleep at wierd hours and are so sensitive to sound.
It really blows when the neighbor get's upset, it certainly leaves something to be desired. I'm glad you resolved it and were still able to rake in some green. With customer skills like yours, work should be piling up on you in the future. You got this one in the bag!
i see what you did there 😂
😅😅😅
Devine intervention and being respectful of a situation gained this man another customer. Way to go. Much respect.
Divine.
Having basic customer service skills isnt divine intervention 😂
From a night shifter, thank you for your calm demeanor and willingness to work with this man.
Not to mention how much time you'd waste going out to yell at the workers. Just make yourself some sleepy tea and wear noise canceling headphones.
Exactly 💯
Exactly! When I worked the night shift, I'd always listen to rain noises on UA-cam to help with outside noises.
Ear plugs
We need more people like you in this world
we need to all be more like him
Being a night shift worker myself, you sir, are a hero. If I had this situation come up (luckily I'm a heavy sleeper during the day) I would give you any and all business I could afford and refer you to every one I know. Well played sir!
It's amazing how easy things can be resolved if people are just willing to have a conversation
Very professional. I like how you handled this situation.
Ear plugs? Nothing worse than a neighbor that says up all night and expects everyone else to be quiet during the day.
I was looking for this comment! Absolutely Agree!
@modjoe4107 I think that's a bit different cause the kids next door do that all the time when they are out of school. Like even when I'm not trying to sleep why the heck does it sound like your bouncing a basketball against the wall.
I work the night shift and I don’t expect the world to be silent during the day. I put earplugs in to drown out the noise. It’s that simple, really.
Classic customer service move. Calm them down, compromise and upsell 😂
You’re a good man with natural customer service skills👍
You didn’t leave and stood up for yourself , even blew him away with the discount price
Amazing job 👏🏽 👏🏽
1st house want discount too😂
Yeah like what about me now 😂
@@renaldsunset yeah where’s my discount!
It feels good to see this kind of proactive response while most people usually confront.
Brotha your a better person than me ❤
Others see numbers you see humans i appreciate that quality
When I worked graveyards I saw people that needed to get stuff done during the day. A lot of that stuff is loud. So I bought ear plugs.
I used to be a night shift nurse and it was horrible when I couldn't get that sleep during the day. My dog would cuddle with me while I slept but always insisted on barking in my face to make sure I was aware she heard something outside even though the back door was always open so she could go as she pleased without waking me 😅
Honestly I'm glad you understood why he was upset and found a compromise that works. And you made a customer out of it.
I wear noise canceling headphones they are a thing ^^ Overnights for 13 years in September.
Kudos to you for deescalating the situation while still making some money. Good guy for people's kids to work for as a first boss.
I feel the neighbors pain. Working night shift during lawn season sucks. Great Idea to come back later and gets his leaves too.
Somebody raised you right!!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
You sir, simply rock!! Way to turn around what could have potentially been a very aggravating situation. 😁😁😁 It's a shame you're not in my area. We would hire you in a heartbeat based on your integrity alone!!❤️
Sometimes you just don’t know what people are going through so asking about their whereabouts on why the frustration was a genius yet humble move.
As an overnight worker myself, thank you for being so chill and patient with him. You're a good dude
Thats why you keep a level head .great job 👏🏾
Night shift ROUGH yall. I feel him. Glad both parties were understanding of one another and were able to work things out peacefully.
This is the legend level of empathy
You are good bro...
You mean he asked you to leaf 😊
Dude I always learn new lessons from you how to turn a negative situation into a positive one.
As someone who has struggled with getting quality sleep (and who uses good sleep hygiene for better mental health) I can absolutely relate to that neighbour. Folks, try to be patient with people when they say they need their sleep.

Ear plugs are also irritating and cause wax buildup. What would be better would be a mask like the Manta audio one. Bluetooth, black out eye mask, tiny speakers for side sleeping, only really missing active noise cancellation.
