  • Surprising first accessory you must buy for your Microbit.
Many people think the most useful accessory to buy first is a battery box to power your microbit. Right?
We thought long and hard about this and even purchased a battery box... on reflection we have found the first microbit accessory you really need to buy.
The first thing you must buy is an expansion board.
We tested and review in this video, the Kittenbot IOBit V2.0 Microbit Accessory Expansion Board.
    Manufacturer product page: www.kittenbot.cc/collections/...
Lets run through some of the features and benefits:
This expansion board is incredibly small but despite its size all IO ports are extracted for your use.
One of the biggest bug bears of the microbit is the difficulty in connecting the audio - there was no onboard sounder or 3.5mm jack for conneting headphones. Problem solved with the IOBit V2, in fact, you’re spoilt for choice with the selectable onboard buzzer and 3.5mm headphone jack as well as a P0 edge connector.
You can power the expansion board direct from the USB connector, however do take note you cannot use this to connect and download code from your computer.
For mounting there are two lego compatible holes which you could also use for fixed standoff mounting.
There is a 1A self-recovery fuse to protect against shorts. Do remember that there are no output drivers so give thought about the current requirements of anything you connect externally to the iopins.
SPI and I2C interface pins are available for connection. The KittenBot product page points out that pins 19 and 20 cannot be read and written as ordinary IO ports…. Because Micro:bit bottom is dead !??!!? We think KittenBot means you cannot use the I2C pins for anything else because of existing connected peripherals on the MicroBit board.
The things we like about the IOBit V2 are:
The compact size is unobtrusive and perfect for any project, some expansion boards are just way too big. You can still access the reset button and all the plug terminals are replicated. Onboard sound and USB power is great.
