  • Fort Ethan Allen has a storied history in the Essex/Colchester area. Established in 1894 as a cavalry post, it was home to the 10th Cavalry, also known as the Buffalo Soldiers. During its heyday, the fort was a town in and of itself and was something of a community hub for the larger Chittenden County area. Vermont Historical Society Executive Director Steve Perkins and Local 22/Local 44 anchor Mike Hoey take a look at the rise and fall of the fort.
