I love how wholesome television was back then. It was truly a pleasure growing up in the 1970's and 80's.
These were shows you sit down and actually watch with your parents
Sorry, I'm going to comment on this video too! I spent 2 weeks with Maureen on the original pilot of "Out of this World". She was great! Very professional and sweet. Donna Pescow and Joe Alasky also were on the shoot. Lyle Waggoner was originally cast as the Mayor. They were are all fantastic to work with. There were some things about the production of the pilot that did not go well. We over-rehearsed through the weekends which was unheard of on most sitcoms. This was difficult for me because with Evie's power to freeze time, I spent most of it "frozen" while standing on one foot. The general feeling was that the show would not get picked up as a series and it was not worth keeping my contract. I left the production and my character was not replaced. The co-producer Kevin Bright (of "Friends")left, and so did Lyle Waggoner who was replaced by Doug McCLure. Ironically, the show DID get picked up. And though Out Of This World was one not the best program, I still feel like I missed out. I do regret it a little. Funny enough, my older brother Christian played "Derek Rogers" on Out Of This World a year or so later.
Wow! Thanks so much for sharing!
No you didn’t stop lying
❤
Are you telling the true?
I absolutely loved this show
Maureen Flannigan was definitely a crush of mine back in the day.
Bear me to it... She was so cute.
Yeah mine too
I wanted my future wife to be just. like. her.
Pretty, funny, supportive, smart, caring, thoughtful, pretty 😆
Same here
Same
It's always good to see a former child actor become a successful adult.
Loved this show. The intro song, Would You Like To Swing On A Star was so fun and catchy. The special effects were the charm of this show. The Universal Studios episode is the one I will never forget, because she reversed time to prevent a flood.
As I recall, the "Swinging On A Star" song was based on a Bing Crosby tune from the 1940s.
🌎Wow glad you chose to talk about Maureen Flannigan Dave! Sadly Out Of This Wolrd hasn't gotten a DVD release in the US. 🤗♥🙏
Maybe one day!
Maureen Flannigan, that's a name I haven't heard in a long, long time. I doubt anyone younger than 40 knows who she is.
You're probably right.
That's the truth about Out Of This World is definitely one of those shows you would have to be alive back then to know about it
Agreed.
@@jdsundstrom I totally agree 💯 about a few days ago I had to take my mom to her private doctor and the nurse had the TV on and I saw Steve Burton on General Hospital & my mom was talking about him I told her the first time I saw him was on this old TV show called Out Of this World he played Chris he was Evie love interest on the show my mom said she didn't remember that show & now your doing a episode on it 😂
Out of This World was weekend syndicated GOLD 🔥🔥
I remember it airing on Sunday afternoons locally.
it's good to hear she didn't go down the sad road other child actors have.
I agree!
I don’t recall seeing many episodes of Out of This World… but I definitely caught the sweet moment when Evie used her birthday wish to allow Troy and Donna to finally be able to hear each other.
I remember that episode well!
I also LOVED the episode when Evie had a GINORMOUS selection of superpowers for her birthday to choose from & yet ANOTHER episode when she split herself into TWO or THREE people too as well okay @aqacefan.
I started to cry a little after her wish was granted and Troy heard her.
Good for her for expanding her horizons professionally and personally!
Shes aged WELL.
Indeed!
An underrated show imo
My kids and I used to always watch this show.saw every episode.we loved it,we thought it was great.I miss it.
I thought this show had the best theme song in TV history and imagine when later on in life I found out it was a cover of a real song
You're right. It is a great song.
Bing Crosby deserves some recognition for the song.
I always appreciate the commercials. It brings me back in time. Another great video. I can’t say anything more better about your channel.
Glad you like them, Keith! Thanks for all your support. 🙂
@@jdsundstrom. I seen what you did there. 😅 Glad... 🤣
I am so glad she escaped the kid curse of the 80s. She was amazing then and its great to find that she's been amazing and awesome throughout
After watching the Tiffany Bisset episode Maureen Flanagan is just who I wondered about next. Thank you ❤ Also it never registered in my head that Burt Reynolds voiced her father Troy.
P.S. I had such a crush on Donna Pescow❤❤❤
No matter how Swiss Cheesy my brain gets, Dave is here with the memories 😁
Thanx Dave 🫶🏻✌🏻😎
My pleasure!
This is awesome! Out Of This World was always a childhood memorable show for me. I used to imagine that I could freeze time when I put my fingers together when I was a kid lol! Great to hear that another actor/actress is doing well for themselves after so many years. I also remember the intro to the show having the remake song of Swinging On A Star, which to me fit the show really well.
Yep. A great old Bing Crosby tune that UA-cam flagged when I tried to include it.
@@jdsundstrom Ahh! I figured that’s why you didn’t use it. Another thing I forgot to add was that I got really surprised when you mentioned that Burt Reynolds was the alien dad! I never knew that! Great video, I really enjoyed it!
@@jdsundstrom The first season Dave ran on NBC's 7:30pm prime time line up from 1987 to 1988. The series would then rotate to airing primarily on the weekends until it was cancelled in 1991. 🛸🪐🌌📺
You're right, SMB III. It was part of the "Prime Time Starts Early" campaign that included this show plus "She's the Sheriff" and "We've Got It Made".
I definitely enjoyed Maureen's performance as Evie on Out of This World. She was also extremely cute, pretty much the main reason why I even bothered watching! I also liked her sidekick on the show Christina Nigra. I remember her from a fav movie of mine Cloak & Dagger.
Loved Cloak & Dagger. Call me weird but I watch that movie on Christmas Eve every year.
I am 57 and I remember this show. I cannot say I never missed an episode because I was young and busy. I was originally drawn to the show but Donna/Angie. However, Evie/ Maureen caught my eye and I was smitten. So glad she is alive and doing well!
I used to watch this series along with The New Lassie, Small Wonder and I think, My Secret Identity, Sliders and Voyagers. They were reruns but I was happy watching them all.
All great shows!
Years ago I ran into Maureen at the DMV in LA. She couldn’t have been sweeter.
Thanks for sharing!
Someone said she’s actually not a very nice person
@@ljmcdonald2703depends on their mood. A friend met Linda Blair and said she was really nice. A UA-camr recently made a video of Blair saying at his recent meeting with her she was rude.
Love Donna Pescow! Loved the holiday commercial she did with John Travolta as Santa Claus in a takeoff on Saturday Night Fever
So good!
i used to watch this every day at lunchtime (i came home for lunch in elementary school) during 1992-1994
I too also used to watch that show on Saturdays at 6pm too as well okay @kerrbear1980.
Thank you for making this video. There is almost no info on this show online.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I didn't catch every episode but I enjoyed watching the show from time to time. I happened to be in Hollywood on the day in December of '94 when Doug McClure got his star on the Walk of Fame. Maureen and Donna were there to help celebrate and congratulate him and say a few words, along with a bunch of classic TV stars like James Drury, Robert Fuller and Ron Masak. Patrick Wayne was there as well. Doug was quite sick from cancer at the time but it was great to see him out there looking chipper and graciously accepting his honor. It was only two months later that he passed away.
Thanks for sharing, Eric.
I loved this show and Evie, or Maureen was one of my first celebrity crushes at the ages of like 12-13 . I really did wish her time-stopping powers. That even affected our games at the schoolyard, we'd put our fingertips together and everyone would stop at the same position. Years later saw her website during she was in her late 30s, still looked gorgeous.
Thanks for sharing!
This show introduced me to Steve Burton. I still watch him every day 40 years later. ❤️
Yes!!! I loved loved loved this show when it was on, and I remember when I was watching General Hospital and then Steve Burton ended up on it, my teenage heart was soooo happy, and I never stopped watching him there lol.
@@AlohaLowah He came back last week. ❤️
I realize this is not the place for this post, but I couldn't find the correct place for it. In memory of David McCallum, I found another series he was in, Sapphire and Steel. It's on Tubi, you might want to take a look.
I'll check it out. Thanks for the suggestion!
SAPPHIRE AND STEEL. Cult SciFi.
David McCallum and Joanna Lumley.
She went on to do Absolutely Fabulous.
I really liked this show. boy oh boy was I upset when it got canceled? I was just getting into it too. What a bummer.
Me too. And...they canceled it on a cliffhanger. We never found out what happened to Evie's mom, Donna.
THanks for sharing, Dave! I had totally forgotten about OOTW.
Happy to help! Thanks for all your support, my friend!
Right after watching your other video last week on Small Wonder, I thought about this show. I used to love it. I was young, but I remember putting my index fingers together trying to freeze time. 😂
I think we all wished that we could freeze time.
I'm around the Same age as Maureen Flannigan and her best friend in the show Christina nigra I had a crush on both girls 😂...sci fi sitcom out of this world aired 5:pm every Sunday... Long lost sitcom there's no DVDs or anything like that in America.. this sitcom would be perfect for The tubii streaming app...I grew up with this sitcom bring it back to whoever has the power to do so
You can find lots of episodes right here on UA-cam.
I really liked this show.
I forgot the opening credits used footage from "Buck Rogers In The 25th Century".
I love the Buck Rogers connection!
I am still irritated to this day that 'Out of This World' was never finished!
"Evie, can you deep fry plastic?"
Me too. What the heck happened to Evie's mom?!!?
Always liked that show
After "Out of This World", she starred in a movie called "Teenage Bonnie and Klepto Clyde".
This was a far cry from playing Evie, let me tell you!
In the video, I mention that "Teenage Bonne and Klepto Clyde" almost got the dreaded NC-17 rating.
I remember Cinemax played this movie a lot during the overnight hours.
Hence the NC-17 rating, I presume😏
Yeah she had a nice “personality” in that movie!
Scott Baio also appeared on Out Of This World🛸and also directed a couple episodes. 🤗🎬📺📼
So many happy memories with this show. Yet another reason to not always listen to critics.
Saw this show on nbc I was 6 in 1990 my friend had it on vhs tapes 😊
I loved this show when I was 8yrs old. It aired on KTLA.
Wasn't Steve Burton in this series, he played Evie's boyfriend..I think he was on Days, much later on in the 90s & I think he was on Y&R..😊📺
@Nikki DeJonge He was also on General Hospital and I think is back on General Hospital. 🏥🩺📺📼
@@SuperMarioBrosIIIThanks.. :) 😊
Strange how things work... I was just singing the theme song to this show in my head the other day.
It was good to see Donna Pescow again in a TV series.
Donna also popped up recently on the CW's "The Flash" TV series as a couples counselor.
I do always loved "Out of The World" is because I loved the characters in the show and even the intro as well as Maureen Flannigan as well I saw she making freeze with her fingers and it was so funny 😂😂
At 50 years old Maureen is still gorgeous. I'm 50 myself and I still have a crush on her !
I'm also 50, going on to becoming 51 within TWO WEEKS myself as well okay @davidponseigo8811.
After playing a daughter to a space alien on Out of this World she would play a space alien who gave birth to a hybrid daughter on Star Trek: DS9.
I freaking loved this show. I watched it growing up and I loved the theme song. their version of the song swinging on a star was so much better than the original in my opinion.
Poor Donna Pescow, never *_really_* caught her big break after "SNFever"... very talented lady
But...she has found steady work throughout the years. In fact, I saw her on the CW's "The Flash" TV series just a few years ago.
She was the mother on Even Stevens that started Shia La Beauf
I like Out Of This World, it was a great show, a very underrated 80's sitcom. critics never liked it, but fans did.surprising it's not on TSOD.
I loved Out of this World I never missed an episode it's good when people are able to reinvent themselves
I liked and subbed because I love your relaxed mellow voice and enjoyed the video. But I've never heard of "Maureen Flannigan" or "Out of This World". Im 37, maybe this show is a tiny bit before my time.
Thanks for subbing!
Thanks for the video. I barely remember this show and don't remember ever seeing it. I think, like a lot of these first-run sydicated shows at the time, it aired during the day on the weekends. It surprises me to learn how many famous guest stars this show had, along with Burt Reynolds as a regular.
Thanks again.
Thanks for sharing!
Love the video, Dave. I remember out of this world. It was on here on I think Thursday night and later on the weekend mornings. Love the commercials as well. I remember Tom Bosley doing the Glad commercials before I ever watched an episode of Happy Days. I hope you're having a great day 😊😊
Glad you enjoyed it, Scott!
I grew up with Out Of This world, always try to watch it, then I watched Mama's Family religiously. Golden Girls, It's A living. I love these 80 shows I wish the show was on DVD I'm seeing bad quality episodes online we need it released on DVD or Blu-ray one day one can hope. Evie Ethel Garland
Thanks for sharing!
It would be nice to find all the episodes of out of this world online. There is a handful of them that seem to be lost and never to be seen again.
Agreed!
I barely remembered this show (and that says a lot cuz' i remember EVERYTHING tv related to the 80's) thanks for the reminder Dave. (I recognize Tom Bosley's voice on the GLAD trashbag commercial) 👍
Not going to lie, I loved this show.
No need to lie, I liked it to.
I love this how like lot of use had cruch on her
I remember this show , this show was Sabrina the teenager witch before its time.
the theme song, swinging on a star
I loved this program! I wish it would be placed on dvd! I would most definately buy it! It had a rotten ending! Her father Troy got stuck on Earth and Donna went to Antarius!.
I truly believe the production team thought that the show would get picked up for another season so that they could resolve that cliffhanger.
i met her once at show....very lovely...i wa a kid and an usher...took the time to chat
Donna Pescow would go on to play another tv mom, in the early 2000s Disney Channel series "even Stevens". The series that introduced us to Shia Lebouf.
Thanks for sharing Brandon!
Mr. Alaskey was great! (RIP!) Loved him on 'Couch Potatoes'! I'm guessing he left because he was getting more Voice-Acting Work.
Maureen said that she believed that the producers wanted him to maintain an unhealthy weight because they thought he couldn't be funny if he wasn't fat. As a result, he chose to leave the show...which is a real shame.
I remember this show very well and remember enjoying it. I remember it was on KTVU channel in Bay Area. It was probably a rerun however, because it was airing in the day time.
Thanks for sharing your memories!
Great theme song for this show.
I have always enjoyed that series. Maybe I was the right age for it at around 10 or 11. The theme song definitely was a part of the show, even though I later learned that it was a cover of an existing song. I did remember her on DS9, but didn't really know about other roles of her. Glad that she is doing what she enjoys today.
Thanks for sharing!
It was a fun show, I met Maureen while touring Universal Studios. Only talked for a few minutes, but she was really nice
Thanks for sharing!
The 1980’s Universal back lot tour was soooooooo much better than the one they do now.
Yes, back in the 80s/90s i met Maureen, Tony Dow, Craig T Nelson and a handful of others. Haven't been since early 2000s, idk how it is nowadays @ryanm4013
Oh, I loved this show!!! It was fun!!!
I lived in the 🇬🇧 I ❤ out of this 🌎 i loved Evie's Powers of Freezing time 👉👈 and gleeping Maureen's an inspirational iconic 👑❤️🔥
I was 8 and ADORED IT AND HER
haven't seen the show since i was a kid.
I not only saw the movie in the theaters, I kept asking my local video store owner when he might sell one of the vhs copy he had of the movie Teenage Bonnie and Kryto Clyde, that I still own. I also had a crush on her growing up.
Thanks for sharing!
You left out the fact that Burt Reynolds voiced her dad Troy.
I mention Burt in the video here: 2:51
@@jdsundstromI must have blinked. My bad.
I was thinking that my soothing narration had lulled you into a brief, mid-video nap. 🙂
Uncle Beano. Best character name ever.
Absolutely!
I loved the Buck Rogers footage during the OOTW intro. I thought the show was great and enjoyed watching Maureen.
Did burt Reynolds play the voice of her father
He sure did!
It was a great show I love it; had some big names the guy from Ghost and Mrs. M. ,
That show was a precursor to 3rd Rock from the Sun. I love these background stories to actors that I know by sight but can't remember what shows they were in.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it, Debbie!
Maureen went to my college, USC, at the same time I did. I heard a story from a friend who walked by as some guy came up to her and interrupting a conversation put his hand on her shoulder and turned here around and put his fingers together like in the show 👉✨👈. And apparently she socked him in the nose! I trusted my friend so I am sure the story is true, although not sure how much he embellished it (he was a creative writing major!), but if some guy grabs your shoulder and spins you around I'd say it was justified!
Also related to "Out of This World" to practice some industrial arts skills, I built the lamp from the show. It sat on our table on the back porch for years--made a great mood light! Honestly, don't remember what happened to it! Probably after being exposed to the elements for many years it just broke.
You built the lamp? That's awesome!
Watching and listening to you
Awesome video! I don’t remember Out of This World at all.
What? You don't remember Evie Ethel Garland and her amazing ability to freeze time?
Well done Dave 😮
Great video thanks David loved this show Steve Burton who played Chris is now on The Soap Opera General Hospital he plays A cool guy named Jason Morgan who is kinda like Fonzie A
I loved Out Of This World. I just wanted those powers, lol
Me too!
I watched this show all the time when I was a teen in the 80's.
out of this world show was cool it deserves a reboot and live action show should get turn in to cartoon and how about disney reboot tv show out of this world
I loved the tv show! ❤
Good show. I remembered very little from watching it as a kid. Now I'm watching it and I like the Mosquitoman and the uncle Beano - they're funny. I know they made it in a studio but that view of a house overlooking the ocean is a dream, nice touch in the intro.
Somehow I missed this series
I feel like Out of This World was the Sabrina the Teenage Witch of the 80's
It really kind of was!
One of my best friends rented a room in Maureen’s apartment in Brooklyn in 2005ish. Mostly Maureen was gone filming piolets. My friend had no idea who she was or the show, but I did and in fact the day before I visited her during spring break, when asked what my super power would be if I could choose during a school ice breaker, I said I’d freeze time like the girl in Out if this World. Little did I know the next day I’d be staying in her apartment
Doug McClure is perhaps best known for his long-running role of Trampas on The Virginian.
Evie Ethel Garland!
Was there an issue with the copyright for the intro song?
I loved this show as a kid & often tell people this was 80's Sabrina the Teenage Witch in the same way that Xena Warrior Princess was the 90's Wonder Woman
I would like to see this on DVD but there are legal issues (like the one for Fright Night 2) so it never got a US release. Just Region 2.
Here's hoping Visual Entertainment gives it to us
Yep. The UA-cam copyright bots flagged it. I could have left it in...but then they would have demonetized my video and I truly do enjoy getting a little money each month to support my Diet Coke habit. 🙂
@jdsunstrom
I've always wondered What Happend to her after the show went off the air 🤔
Thanks Dave for the Update & I look FWD to the nxt Remeber When Fav Tv Show the actors who Stared in them 👍👍
Oh I remember this show...
