Awesome to see, but the fox definitely has the advantage being a wild animal who has most certainly outrun other wild animals like coyotes that have the experience hunting, while the dog is domesticated and thinks this is the best game it's ever played.
The fox was merely toying with the dog, it wasn't trying to go full speed, you can see this when you look at the foxes legs moving, its practically jogging, its playing a game with the dog, knowing full well it can't catch it. Full speed, a red fox goes over 40 mph, a captive dog like this can't even come close to that.

@@boidsen What subspecies of foxes did your Border Collie chase, because I don't believe their top speed is close to the red fox, only the greyhound comes close. Often red foxes spend part of the chase zig zagging, conserving energy, only going all out if they have to. This particular chase ended when the fox covered huge distance and dog just gave up. I think that the dog lives near by where i noticed that chase. Some time after this, i flew in the same area and saw foxes. Not sure if it was the same but it had some damage. Tail looked like a stick(no fur) and had some injuries on its back. Possibly the fox you seen with no fur on it's tail could have been suffering from mange. Would also explain what looked like injuries on it's back. Not saying that the dog hadn't inflicted punishment. Just suggesting a possibility.🤔
I am impressed by the dog's second wind. At one point he started to flag and then picked it up again. Dogs are incredible hunters. I have a Cavapoo, she looks like a floor mop but she has caught about 8 rats this year and if there is a mouse in my home she will not give up until she has it.

@@lloyds053 Yes I saw those clips in North Africa, but those red foxes are likely smaller as desert red foxes and hot weather ones are known to be, and they're also from the European subspecies which is different than the North American red fox. Also, if you look at those Morocco clips, the red fox actually beats the fastest greyhound or saluki dog for sometimes a few hundred yards, and the dog closest to it never catches it, the fox is able to dodge that one lead hound, its when another hound comes in and blind sides the fox and knocks it over, it can only dodge so many and the dogs work together to hit it from different directions.
