While I agree, their making a list of the fullbackiest fullbacks. While Mike Alstott was a phenomenal fullback, he was more of a running fullback, to the best of my memory he didn’t do a tremendous amount of lead blocking. Jon Ritchie had 15 carries and 38 rushing yards in his career, Alstott had 1,359 carries and 5,088 rushing yards along with 58 rushing touchdowns. Alstott, while a great fullback, was more of a large halfback.

To me, Csonka was the best who ever played. Also, not many fullbacks ran for 1,000 yards. He did it when the season was only 14 games long. I can remember when the Dolphins has two 1,000 yard rushers. Both Csonka and Mercury Morris broker the 1,000 yard barrier. That's something we probably won't ever see again.

@@aidansmith266That only happened a handful of times. 90% of the time he came out of the backfield without a lead blocker. They used linemen to pull and block with trap plays or straight up the hole runs. Watch the highlights. All of Alstotts big runs were without a so called fullback as a blocker. This video showed one highlight as an example. Tampa playbook has him as fullback. The NFL had him as a fullback. A fullback isn't just a blocker. They can run and catch passes also. Alstott lead blocked for Dunn all the time. He could block, run, catch passes. That, is a fullback.

Neal is so deserving of the number one spot. He never gained a thousand yards in his career, but he blocked for several different backs who had seasons with over 1,000 yards. In one of his games as a Bolt he caught a swing pass and no one was near him so he ran for about 30 yards before anyone got close so he actually slowed down so he could hit someone. He should be in the HOF.

You guys are too young to write this and it shows. John Riggins is the best fullback to play, ever. period. 11,000+ yards from mostly the fullback position. In older style offenses, the fullback carried the ball about 40% of the time if not more. In their goalline package he did play the tailback but that's not where he got the bulk of his carries. The Hogs were a fullback runnin' team.

Roger Craig was probably one of the best backs to play both running back positions (Fullback & Running Back) and be very productive playing both of them. And his running style was the same at Fullback as it was at Running Back with that high knee kick which he said he developed from running the high hurdles in high school. The only difference was his weight. He played Fullback at 225 pounds and he played Running Back at about 215 pounds.

He went 2 consecutive years with 215 and 246 Carries. The lowest carry total he had in his 6 year “prime” was 131 and that was an injury shortened season. During this stretch the RB1 was either Warrick Dunn, Michael Pittman, or alstott himself. No matter what other rb was on the roster alstott was still getting carries as a feature back, fullbacks don’t have 1,359 rushes in their careers, feature backs do.

I knew it LORENZO NEAL for the Chargers and blocking for Ladainian Tomlinson. Those were the days shout out southern Cali (619) 🌴

I think you could take Cory out and put any one of these guys on there. Alstott, Vonta Leach, Tony Richardson, Riggins, Larry Centers. It’s tough to only name 5!

Alstott #1, all day. A Train was the ultimate FB, blocker, devistating runner.

Not gonna lie I was getting pretty upset thinking that Lorenzo Neal was going to get overlooked. Pleasantly surprised to see that you guys got it right. And as for Alstott and Riggins (literally two of my all time favorite players)....they were not the most fullbackiest of all fullbacks....they were just big ol' RB's. I mean we could start having the discussion about Jim Brown or even Csonka.
