Being a 65 year old dinosaur, I remember when Led Zep came out. Thank you for echoing my thoughts, I too was immediately struck by their dead on Led Zepplin sound. Rather than being annoyed, I was hit by a sense of nostalgia and thrill that these kids were actually playing their instruments! No, I'm not what you'd call a "Fan" but do appreciate their efforts and that they are transparent about it. Now that The Warning is signed to the same record label, I curious to see what will happen to them and which direction they will go. At the least, the future of Rock and Roll is in good hands with these young lions. really like your honest and intelligent reactions.

If I’m not mistaken, I think they recorded this when they were like 16-17...they were definitely HEAVILY influenced by Led Zeppelin, especially in this song ...and I think they said overall, they were really influenced by RUSH too. I just think they were really young here and this was before they really found their own sound. They got signed before they matured enough to change it up. I do think they sound great though and are very talented. Already winning a Grammy at their age is pretty amazing.

Finally someone who doesn't trash the band for sounding like Led Zeppelin. So many reaction channels say they sound like Led Zeppelin and call them a cover band even though they ain't covering their songs. Thanks for your reaction, great video and explanation.

I am 59 years old, I had tickets in my hand for Led Zeppelin in 1980, they were due to come to Jacksonville, where I was stationed, after NY. The first time I heard this on the radio I thought Page/Plant put out a new album, then I remembered that Plant can't sing like this any more :( I really like these kids, I think that GVF, BAND-MAID, and pigeons will save the rock and roll world. Great review as always OSN :)

Where to start? First TY for giving these guys a break! They were teenagers when they wrote this and if you noticed - they didn't even think to write a chorus! They've progressed so much in the 3 or 4 years since this song that it's unbelievable. You wanted to see how they've progressed and grown into their own, so I beg you to listen to their brand new album The Battle at Garden's Gate. Josh has an over 2 1/2 octave vocal range - Danny the drummer has progressed far beyond this tune and Sammy and Jake have also moved miles ahead of their playing here. These guys say in interviews that they love that at their concerts, there are generations of people! Kids, teens, parents and grandparents - and they love it. I'm older and love that these guys have made me feel like I did back in the day, listening to LZ. NO OTHER BAND HAS STOPPED ME IN MY TRACKS and made me come alive like GVF. May they continue on this path - I'm lobing the ride! (Sorry this is so long, but I loved that you GOT this band)!

Greta Van Fleet grew up with parents and grandparents that are Led Zeppelin fans, with a few other influences from the same time. They grew up with that as the primary music in life. Huge influence in shaping what they view as good music.
Then they recorded. They got the attention of Robert Plant. They got the approval of Robert Plant. And I believe that trumps all. When an original member gives his approval, there's no better blessing.
These are things which you probably did not know, but as a music nerd I thought you might find it interesting. Keep up the good work.

I saw Led Zeppelin in 1969, and they were my favorite band. They had a lot of haters early on. This song is very Zep, and was written when they were 15 or so. At the time, they did a lot of covers in bars including Zep, Cream, Black Sabbath etc. Now several years later they have matured appreciably. They are my favorite band now and their fan base includes people from 15-80 that love their sound. Rather unusual for a rock band these days. Throw in big arena shows and big festivals globally, and they have something that connects.

Awesome reaction as always good sir. Love the breakdown and comparison to the great Led Zeppelin. I love how you talk about how this can open up a conversation around the younger and older generations bonding over music and hearing music that they have never heard of. I am not a huge Greta Van Fleet fan, but I also don't hate it. Hearing this breakdown makes me want to listen a little more, and then also listen to more Led Zeppelin. Thanks for the always 100% honest reaction. Keep it up brother.

Awesome. I'm the same age as you, and GVF is my favorite band. I had the same initial reaction to them as you. I saw it for a few seconds and shut it off. Some time later, I said what the hell is wrong with sounding like Zeppelin? And now I don't hear Zeppelin when I listen to them. I hear Greta Van Fleet. One of the perks of being old and loving this band is that you get to sit back and watch them grow and evolve. They're SO talented and have SO much potential, and it's been lovely to watch. I can tell you that they have 100% brought generations of fans together. From little kids to grandma and great grandma. They have 15 year olds listening to Joan Baez and Muddy Waters and John Denver, ffs. It blows my mind, I never in a million years thought I would see that. They're changing music in their own way. They may not be inventing new sounds, but they are affecting the way young people (and budding musicians) approach and listen to music, and are bringing people together. And that's a beautiful thing. Thank you for this.

Loved your honest reaction to Greta. I’m an 80’s baby and with more of an affinity for the glam and hair metal bands. I knew some Zeppelin songs but they weren’t one of my favorite bands. Growing up in an age where Rock was dying, I lamented not being able to attend concerts with the legends in their hay day. I got to see Van Hagar while in high school and that was the extent of my old school rock concert experience. It was awesome by the way! Since then I’ve been thirsting for new classic rock style music. One day, I happened upon GVF and it linked me back to Zeppelin; and band I never truly looked into. Now I have a whole new appreciation for Zeppelin and their music. As you eluded to in your reaction, I never had the opportunity to see any of the Rock legends in there hay day. With GVF, I now feel like I have a chance to experience what that was like in the 70-80’s. Their new album distances the band, somewhat, from original Zeppelin, although the influence will always be present vocally. Frankly Scarlet, I don’t give a damn! I can’t wait to see them in concert. If you want to give another classic sounding up and coming band a chance, listen to Dirty Honey “When I’m Gone.” Sunset strip babies that sound like Aerosmith/GNR. Thank you also for the Plush reaction. They are now squarely on my radar. The future looks bright for old school rock. Thank you old school nerd for helping commence the awakening! Cheers

Okay I'm just going to put this here I agree there isn't a musical artists out there that hasn't gained their influence from someone else that's how music works also let this sink ineverybody, when Highway tune was written along with the likes of your the one these boys were 14 + 16 their ability in itself is phenomenal at that age the lead singer himself was an amazing vocalist and has grown exponentially as have the rest these guys thrive on being polarizing it gets people off their butts and off the radio and makes them think for themselves and determine hey what do I really like and that's what music should be anyone who hasn't checked out their new material it's phenomenal as for me Zeppelin was my era and no I did not make the comparisons initially because I don't listen to the radio and the first time I ever heard about these guys was a little song you can still find on UA-cam called get you down then I heard a song called mountain of the Sun so I still struggle with the comparisons but I do see them as they have acknowledged them as well. I don't buy their story about Joss trying to just one day out sing the instruments. I think these kids decided to carefully analyze and master playing everything they could find from a top rock band. Then they made new mixtures of their sound into new songs. This was a brilliant way to break into musical fame and fortune and revive this great style of rock music in modern times. I really love their first music that wasn't an "album". Not a huge fan of their first album "Anthem of the peaceful army" - to me this album was essentially one song, not much variation in design of the songs. I haven't yet listened to the stuff since that album.

I really like Greta, it feels like rock n roll. Fact is Led Zeppelin created the hair band generation. Great White, Poison, Cinderella, Kingdom Come, Whitesnake all were deeply influenced by Zep. Listen to Cinderella's song Long Cold Winter they're awesome and one of the few hairmetal bands the totally got the blues influence, so did Great White, Whitesnake had that vibe going on early in their career with Ain't no Love in the Heart of the City but they drifted to a commercial sound. If Greta can give radio a kick in the ass and get them to play real rock today like Guns and Roses did 30 years ago we'll be greatful.

I loved listening to *LZ* in the '60s and early '70s but listening to these kids is like listening to an old lost recording and I have to say that I like it. I think music like this has a place in today's world and there is no reason to write them off just because they sound like the original. This is not a problem for me at all. I had bought 2 of Kingdom Come albums in 80`s even though people wer sort of rumoring they copy Led Zeppelin. These guys here are not copy-cats for me, this seems like role model play - same as Fans of Lord of the Rings recreate Tolkien legacy in the woods )

It's funny that people get so obtuse about Led Zeppelin sound-a-likes. They stole whole-heartedly from blues musicians for their early material. They were absolutely great for their decade or so and haven't existed for 40 years now. Black Sabbath spawned a whole genre of music (doom metal). Bands are lauded for sounding Beatle-esque. Why are bands influenced by Zep held to a different standard? Kingdom Come got tons of crap in the 80s for sounding somewhat Zeppelin-ish. GVF are a bunch of kids here making their first EP. Each of their full length LPs has taken steps away from these early songs to develop more of their own sound. Often, this singer sounds more like Geddy Lee than Robert Plant; he has a very unusual tonality.
If you want to hear another sound-a-like singer, check out Bruce Dickinson's vocal doppelganger in the new band Icon Of Sin.

So ironic. Zep was hammered as a rip-off band when they began (and face it, all these white dudes copping blues and early rock, come on). Here we go again: Young band loving their influences, sounding like them, growing and maturing, finding their own voice within a genre, super talented. Eviscerated by some large cohort of critics. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

I grew up a huge Zeppelin fan, and I have enjoyed other bands that were very heavily influenced by Zep (eg. Kingdom Kome, Whitesnake, etc.) but something about the vocals in GVF really bothers me. It sounds like a good but to nasally version of Robert Plant.

Don't listen to Greta Van Fleet because they sound so much like Led Zeppelin but not for the reasons people would think. I don't listen to Led Zeppelin either. Never understood the hype around Zeppelin. Music was nothing special to me.

There is no point to this. If it makes some kid find Zeppelin I suppose it’s fine. Otherwise, this is garbage.
