So glad I found you. I love your loose style, especially when painting flowers. I have been practicing how to let go and loosen up and let the watercolor do what it does best! This was a very informative video. Thank you for sharing your know how. xo
I'm glad you found this informative. And it's true watercolor has a mind of its own and that's the beauty of it! Thanks for watching

I just found your videos and I love how you paint. They are beautiful!
Thank you for sharing! Love your videos! ❣️
Beautiful work. You make it look so simple. I see that you use paint from bottles, not the usual tubes or paint boxes..
Can I get similar effect using tube paints ? Please mention the tools you use. Thanks
Just awesome...Thankyou for showing a beautiful art mam
Thank you for watching!
This has inspired me. I've always thought of going out to public areas and drawing, but I never did because I made excuses. Also, I love that painting!
I know the feeling, but it'll be so rewarding for you to get out and just paint. Not caring what people say or think. Thank you for watching!

Very inspiring! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching. I'm glad it inspired you
This is beautiful.
Beautiful work and amazing words of encouragement in finding our own style, thank you. I had wondered the very same question a couple of weeks ago, in asking myself 'what is my style'...I like so many different things, but with 'doodling' and experimenting, I'm beginning to see a trend...so maybe that's my style ;).x
It's good that you see a trend. Keep going with that until it develops into something else. Thank you for watching.
Absolutely lovely! Tks
Jane Smolens Thanks so much
I just found your channel, Thank you so much Kris.
Perfect. Thank you!
good advice, thanks so much
You're welcome!
I'm a painter that found my style by doing some of what you said as repetition. I paint almost every day and have for about 6 years. Also I slowly started to add my dreams and stories from my life into my art. Colors that caught my attention and shapes that I was drawn to. I also started to think in "series"... pieces that had some connection, be it color, form, background and or story. These are the things that helped find my voice in art. It's not easy but it is worth it. Listening to you reminded me of this path and I thank you. My art is on Instagram under MANSHAPEDSTAR Thank you for sharing wisdom...
Painting everyday. That's amazing. Thank you for sharing this story!
Hydrus, I just looked again! I need some of that! Mx
Lovely video and great advice. I have to play twice once to concentrate on you painting and a second time to concentrate on your message. Artists work like yours inspire me, and eyes, especially animals eyes. Desperately curious, what was the stuff in the yellow container you showed, it seemed to remove the flower centre allowing you to repaint, without damaging the paper, magic stuff! Mx
Thank you and I'm so glad you're inspired after watching this. I think the container you're talking about is the Dr.Ph Martin Hydrus Ink in Yellow
What is that cabbage lettuce green and purple flower rose looking thing??????? I need to know! I am completely head over heels for your style!
Thank you Erin. I don't know the name of that flower. I got it in an assortment of flowers. It is beautiful and it's actually style alive after 3 weeks.
Kris Keys oh wow! 3 weeks means you're showing it lots of love! I'll see what google has to say about the flower. Thanks!
Edit, well that was the fastest find ever...it's called Brassica it comes in all green and cream with green flecks. It's a Cole crop like mustard or cabbage and become available in the fall.
Flowering cabbage or kale, right?
I love your style! You seem so free and creative. How did you finally develop this particular style of painting and the medium you use? How long did it take?
Barb Templin Thank you!! After I really decided that I wanted to take fashion illustration seriously, it took a little over a year before I finally decided on using watercolors. I used markers and acrylic paint for a long time.
Kris Keys I can understand that, it sure is a process. The thing I like about your art is that you use a couple different mediums. That must have been a result of using markers and acrylic paint for awhile. Your technique is so fluid! I just hope someday I get to that of feeling so confident that I can be more fluid because to me it takes a lot of confidence to that.
Thank you for another inspirational message Kris! I'm a very new artist - so new that I'm really hesitant to even call myself "artist," and I'm having trouble finding my style. Sometimes I feel like I've hit a wall and will never get better and never find my style. I think I need to follow your advice and get out more - observe nature and people more. I'm going to try to make time to do that this week.
Hi Lana! I know what you mean. I've definitely been there before, but making drawing and creating apart of my life versus thinking of it as a task really helped. Keep me posted on your progress!!! You can do it
Lana Stuart I can relate, I'm still on my path to finding my style. But I've taken Kris's advice and everyday throughout the day I draw and draw and draw. Guess what? My drawing is getting better and so is my painting! Once again, Thank you Kris!!
That's definitely something I need to work on! I never learned any drawing skills and I know that improving those would help my painting tremendously. It's just so difficult when you don't have a foundation in it.
Very nice
