I highly recommend the Scorpions Tokyo Tapes live album, the last album Uli Jon Roth did before leaving the band.
Scorpions in the '70s is simply a huge Heavy Rock band , all albums from 1972 to 1978 are Masterpieces. And yes they are an influence for Iron Maiden.Uli Jon Roth had big time influence from Jimi Hendrix
The best band in the world!! Scorpions are great musicians.
Uli roth recorded a couple of electric sun albums when he left after taken by force. Both amazing.
That's my favorite Uli era
I never listened to The Scorpions much...I knew about them, but I was floating in Topographic Oceans and the like! I love the guitars here. More investigations are needed and I do hope you do more Scorpions Nick.
you must listen to their very first album "lonesome crow" with michael schenker. Sounds so different with its jazzy psychedelic grooves!
we will do a full album reaction soon to that album
The 70’s was the greatest decade in the history of music. Many bands changed from 70’s to the 80’s- Styx, rush, ZZ Top etc.. all were better in the 70’s but profited more in the 80’s making mainstream radio hits..
Way back when, the girls I knew in High School and College seemed to really like Scorpions just as much as they liked Journey.
Love the Scorpions. The word for them is not "commercial" - it's "popular". They were and are terrific. Klaus Meine has a wonderful voice.
Btw, the later date may simply represent a remaster or rerecording.
Scorpions pretty great stuff over the ages. Underrated.
This is the last album with Uli Jon Roth and really the end of an era for the band. Their next few albums are good too but much more stripped-down and straightforward.
I was born in ‘95 so I wasn’t around but I think these guys along with Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and Thin Lizzy wrote some of the best Metal songs of the 70s. You really can’t go wrong with any of their songs from that decade, hope you’ll check out some more soon!
Thanks Nick 🤘🤘
Never heard this one myself. It is an awesome song! Thanks Nick for playing this.
In the Scorpions albums with Uli Roth (except Taken by Force), the latter sings some of his songs from time to time. Be careful, Uli Roth's voice is raw, hoarse, quite unsightly but that said, it's a question of adaptation and over time you could be conquered by his style which ultimately sticks rather well to his compositions.
His first two albums after leaving Scorpions (Earthquake in 1978-1979 and Fire Wind in 1980-1981) with his trio Electric Sun are close to a Hendrixian style. To start, try the following songs: "Electric Sun", "Sundown", "Cast Away Your Chains", "Indian Dawn" and "Fire Wind".

how could you create a list like this in 10 minutes ? 🙂 I saw them on the Animal Magnetism tour in 1980 and 2 years later in the USA ... later on I didn't like them too much any more, but the old stuff is brilliant
OMG that's amazing!!!!
@@rudolfbecker4313 I have a prepared list at the ready all ready of this band a several others I seen them in 1978 World Series of Rock and by the way my last name is Rudy
@@428chase Rudy dares to criticize Mr Rudy 🙂 No songs of Taken by force - what about We'll burn the sky, Sails of charon, He's a woman, she's a man ? I like the cover of Tokyo Tapes, my best friend and I once copied it in a spanish disco, listening to Scorpions ... a few beers helped to "get in shape" LOL
Taken by Force was the final album with Uli Jon Roth. My favorite song off this album is HE'S A WOMAN, SHE'S A MAN.
You should explore more Uli Jon Roth. After leaving Scorpions, he founded the band ELECTRIC SUN. 1979 Electric Sun released the album EARTHQUAKE. It is closer to metal than Scorpions.
React to their 10 minute title track EARTHQUAKE. #nicknlexrequest ELECTRIC SUN - EARTHQUAKE
Hi Nick, I do love The Scorpions mainly for their ballads. I'm a sucker for a rock ballad and they do it so well. A few years ago I descovered by accident a German rock group via a French artist, Lol ...True. There was a collaboration on a track by French singer Peter Heppner, who was in the duo "Wolfsheim" Love their albums + his solo work and it had a track with the rock group called "Girls Under Glass" [ What a strange name for a rock group ] but I checked out 2 tracks by them on u.t and bought 3 albums on Amazon that night. They are brilliant. Songs in both German & English... So what tracks made me buy their albums like that ? .... " New World Order" & "In The Darkness" I was totally hooked ! Well worth checking out....inc' - "Erinnerung" and the epic 8 minute long "Desire Lasts Forever". Byee ! Jim X
I enjoy watching you reactions and see that you do a lot of Rush but haven’t seen anything from Triumph. Another trio from Canada, you should consider Triumph
Rudolf schenker was in the band for this album. Michael schenker had already left and was in ufo.
If you develop deeper interest, they started as a psychedelic-prog band. Listen to their first album Lonesow Crow in 1972 ,recorded by producer legend Conny Planck. It was already so good, that it enabled an international career, there you can discover another band and see or hear, how good they already were before getting known worldwide.
Nick, Uli John was a master, Rudolf Schenker his brother kicks it. I saw the blackout tour. check out these songs Pictured life, Catch your train, he and women she's a man, Robot man, Dark lady, Fly to the rainbow, speedy's coming, Top of the bill. We''ll burn the sky .
The Scorpions album ‘In Trance’ was released in 1975. Not 1976.
Yeah! The great In Trance (1975) and the fantastic Virgin Killer (1976).
@@a.k.1740 exactly! Love both albums.
"Catch Your Train' with Schenker like solo's from Uli Roth.
Unfortunately, I never saw them live with Uli. However, I did see them at the Effenaar on February 16, 1979 on the 'Lovedrive tour' with Michael Schenker on lead guitar.
@@Hawk999 I never had the opportunity to see Scorpions live because my interest in them waned with the departure of Uli Roth nevertheless I had the chance to see Roth in concert with his band Electric Sun in February 1981 . Fabulous !!!
@@a.k.1740 Yea, I *must* see Roth live yet. But I will. Luckily, he is still around and gigging. We should consider ourselves blessed.
@@Hawk999 Yes, brilliant and humble musician but I must say that I preferred Uli when he used his Fender stratocaster. I don't really like the sound of his Sky guitar.
Part of that riff reminds me of Hendrix. Cheers Nick 😊👍🍁
Yeah Nick, post you doing the guitar solo!
I have to practice a bit, but yes!!!!!
Great reaction🦂
Hi Nick..Oh yes what a brilliant song and album. This was the first Scorpions album I purchased...I was 16 when it came out.
I was heavily into UFO so delved into the Scorpions because of Michael Schenker...and I discovered another brilliant guitarist in Uli Jon.
I must admit that my favourite era of the Scorpions is up to and including Lovedrive... Blackout is a good album but I like the hard rock sound more than the ballads.
I saw the band on the Lovedrive tour in Liverpool UK...they were brilliant. I remember Hermann Rarebells drum riser moving towards the ceiling during a drum solo. Special gig.
I'm really enjoying your metal concept Nick.
Looking forward to your next reaction. ..metal wise and with Lexi
Hope you and Lexi are all good.
Take care, stay safe. Peace and love from Liverpool UK 👍✌️🤘☮️
Thanks so much for your comment. Very appreciated. Yes I'll keep the metal thing going. I hope I get more views even without lexi. She is more into the older times so this gave me the opportunity to get this segment going. Thanks for the support. I'll do some early priest soon
@@NicknLex Hi Nick. Thank you so much for your reply. I'm sure you will get a lot of views alongside the views you get with Lexi.
There is so much metal to explore dude👍.
Oh yes I'm looking forward to you doing some early Priest...I'm thinking...Beyond The Realms of Death from the Stained Class album👍.
Many thanks to you and Lexi for your channel Nick.
Take care, stay safe. Peace and love from Liverpool UK 👍✌️🤘☮️
lot of good songs
They were a different band back in the 70s when Ulrich Roth aka Uli Jon was their a guitar player. They were more of a hard rock band then. Later on they became a pop rock band. The best albums were Lonesome Crow with Michael Schenker as the lead guitarist, Fly To The Rainbow, In Trance, Virgin Killer and Taken By Force. As Scorpions was in transitions for a new guitar player (Mathis Jabs) Michael Schenker did several songs on their Love Drive album. Most anything after Lovedrive was just MEH in my opinion
Agree 100%. I like some of their 80s albums as well but their 70s albums are AMAZING! I still need to check out Uli’s layer material with Electric Sun etc. but absolutely love his stuff with this band.
You both must react to #nicknlexrequest SCORPIONS - FLY TO THE RAINBOW 1974. Another great song from this year.
Off LOVEDRIVE listen to LOVEDRIVE, HOLIDAY, and ANOTHER PIECE OF MEAT.
Its funny, because i always found Klaus very Judaspriesteque on that track, Like the chorus of White heat red hot .
I'd love to see you react to Drifting Sun from the Fly To The Rainbow album.
THE ANGELS.. BEST HARD ROCK BAND EVER
sorry this is a list I have on hand I didn't want to filter through it but the top 2 are favorites
Old Scorpions is good Scorpions- this is a rabbit hole you might want to delve in more.
Glad you liked it. You should check out the album "Lovedrive" also, as like other commenters have said, they kind of went pop rock/metal after that (though Blackout had some tunes I still listen to).
Hey thanks again for introducing me to this epiceness!!!
@@NicknLex (chuckles nervously) Are you sure "epicenes" is the word you wanted there? I'm natural Y chromosome here!
@@mickeyd6444 corrected it haha 😂
Dude you seem to like proggy type music. Check out CAFO by Animals as Leaders. It’s like Spastic Ink kind of approach and I think you’d dig it
Nick, you should go back and listen to In Trance again, YES....it's super good! In fact every song on the first 4 records with Roth are ALL Good.. PS: Michael left after Lonesome Crow, they loaned him out to UFO and he never came back haha, oops. But his brother Rudolph has always been in the Scorpions since they formed in 1965! Plays Rhythm...
Klaus had vocal cord surgery in 1982, which i think limited his singing style from that point forward. He was still amazing after that, but he lost a lot of the variety he had before that, which you can hear in this song, the screams, the rasp, etc. If you want to hear something REALLY different from them, try anything from their 'Lonesome Crow' album from '72. The whole album is a trip, and featured a 16 year old Michael Schenker. Michael left after the album to join UFO, and returned briefly to play on a few songs on 'Lovedrive' in '79, so he wasn't in the group here. His brother Rudolf is the constant member along with Klaus.
Greatest lyrics ever- I’m not your bugs bunny and your not my wife!!!
Check out blackout
I love Taken by force, but this is not one of my favourite songs; the music is great, I just don't like Klaus' singing in this song to much. My favourites are We'll burn the sky, He's a woman, she's a man and The sails of Charon, sung by Uli Jon Roth
Uli Jon Roth does not sing any song on the album Taken by Force (not even one of his compositions). On the other hand, he sings a few tracks on the earlier albums Virgin Killer (1976), In Trance (1975) and Fly to the Rainbow (1974).
@@a.k.1740 you are absolutely right, I mixed it up with Tokyo Tapes, which was recorded on the Taken by force tour and Uli Jon Roth sang Dark Lady. Usually I can remember things very well, but nobody's 100%, good luck, you didn't offer a bet 🙂
@@rudolfbecker4313 Actually, "I've Got to Be Free" had such personal lyrics for Uli Roth (who wrote the track) that it's a wonder he didn't sing that track on the album. Maybe a decision from the record company... who knows !
@@a.k.1740 I hadn't listened to the song in ages, but reading the lyrics, it makes sense : lines like "you're spoiling my art, you're wasting my time" sound really "hard" ... written as accuse to whom, the record company ? the band ?
Parallel to writing this I watch yesterdays concert of another famous german metal band:Blind Guardian, do you know their signature song - Valhalla - ? If yes ... good. If not, you've missed something ... check this great performance in Wacken ua-cam.com/video/i-IcX_bccFc/v-deo.html
the crowd was pretty good yesterday ... but nothing compares to Wacken
@@rudolfbecker4313 I think in his lyrics, Uli was making his declaration of independence to the band and the record company as much ! For him it was clear that his time with Scorpions was over and it took a lot of diplomacy on the part of Klaus Meine to convince Uli to make the trip to Japan to record the series of concerts that gave rise to the legendary Tokyo Tapes ! I don't know Blind Guardian but I have to say that I'm not really interested in metal (I prefer old school hard rock).
Well you don't care for the Scorpions, but I have NEVER HEARD anything by Iron Maiden that I liked. As far as I'm concerned their whole approach is a turn off from cartoons to the ghoulish things they like to represent. I cant even get past it.
I love the Scorpions. Specially Uli Jon Roth's work. What you just said about Iron Maiden is very ignorant. They have like 3 songs about fairytale stuff. It's a late 70's band that blows most other bands before and after Pitt of the water. Just because you don't know them doesn't make them one of the best bands on this planet. Go read some about them or listen. It's free. The scorpions sounded amazing until all.their songs became comercial and about love and corny stuff. Maiden always stayed true to lyrics about anti war, politics, or amazing history. Listen to Alexander the great and you will thank me later.
@@NicknLex instead of calling me ignorant you should make recommendations about what to sample of the best of their music. Making stupid comments doesn't educate anyone. I do have a right to my opinion and so far I have not understood what is so great about this band. Everyone has their own tastes. You should listen to the rock critics and the fact that even they dont like all bands and musiicians. So a recap; make useful suggestions instead of the wrong approach to these kind of comments to which EVERYONE has. YOU Know what they say about opinions and everyone has one and there is no factual right or wrong about it. SUGGESTIONS for what in particular I might like. For instance the only song by maiden that even made sense to me was The Parchment.
Scorpions have 19 studio albums, so many songs I don't know, including this one. Scorpions have changed dramatically over the years for sure. I'd recommend The Zoo and Animal Magnetism @/nicknlexrequest for earlier Scorpions.
*Uli Jon Roth . . .*
He is what made the band different (I'd say the last Scorpions albums I liked without Uli was; "Love Drive" and "Animal Magnetism"
I love you dude ❤️
@@NicknLex You're my Holdsworth, Progressive Rock/Prog Metal Brother a few States down :D.
