- Freebies from the Whisky industry is it the devils work or the producers of the golden liquid acknowledging us reviewers?
On this stream, I will be joined by the brilliant Vin from No Nonsense Whisky, someone who I really admire and who has been very public and transparent with his stance on accepting gifted bottles. Check out his channel here: www.youtube.com/ @NoNonsenseWhisky
Roy hosted a brilliant vPub last week where he talks about his stance on freebies from the industry and how he is funded. A really quite balanced debate with him providing his reasoning why he deflects gifts. If you have not watched it, I recommend you sit down, grab a dram and enjoy it first.
Watch it here: www.youtube.co...
I hope to dive in deep (within the hour) on why he has taken his stance and what that means to the wider whiskytube world.

A huge thank you to Vin, some tough questions and grateful for his full transparency on it all. Thank you all for watching and welcome to the New Bottle Slap Club Members!
Thanks for having me on Jeff! It's a subject I'm very passionate about so more than happy to discuss it at great lengths 🤣
This was an absolutely fantastic conversation between two legends in the DrinksTube community.
It's puzzling that some people get so worked up about this issue, but then again, people often get upset over the most trivial matters.
Just because someone doesn't accept free bottles doesn't mean they're free from other forms of influence. For instance, as one becomes more ingrained in the industry, the concern about how their words affect their new friends can become a significant form of influence. This could be even more problematic than simply accepting a bottle worth £30.
Vin's point about trust being the core issue is absolutely crucial.
Oh, and that's also why I don't add scores to my reviews.
Thank you for a great discussion. Kanpai!
Fine praise coming from you mate!
Great comment. If you know that you cannot do a review with no bias, then you shouldn’t take that free whisky. On the other hand like Vin said. Give me the free whisky and I will decide if I want to review it, I will give an honest opinion. If it sucks I will say so.
@@WhiskyLoversSociety 100% spot on
Loved watching this on the replay and your relaxed style. Seems like this is a hot topic. I think there is a space for this like in all industries. New and emerging players do need influencers and to get their products reviewed. I think it is good to be transparent about how you get funded and if you receive samples to review. There's no shame in that. Important thing is to remain true to yourself and your own integrity. Love the crazy shirt emojis for your UA-cam membership channel!
Great collaboration boys. Fascinating chat around a tricky topic :) I'll look forward to your Miyagikyo review - beautiful dram ( all honey)
Thanks Hamo, very grateful to Vin for being so transparent about it all. The Miyagikyo is the next bottle on my to open list, looking forward to it. Cheers!
I very much enjoy these youtuber-to-youtuber chinwags. I think there's a place for someone who wants to work closely with new or small distilleries and brands who need someone to believe in them and give them a bit of publicity. There is also room for Roy's stance, but even Roy visits new distilleries and records whole videos on location, so even though he is not taking freebies, they are benefitting his channel in a way.
Caught this on replay. Interesting chat between the two of you with some great contributions in the chat from other reviewers. I don't like opaque bottles either. I like to know how much is left in a bottle. Also, I find it hard to score whiskies. What I like on any given day is very much dependent on where I am, what mood I'm in, and what I've had to eat or drink beforehand. Cheers!
Enjoyed the show.topic was very interesting. Great to get an insite into that side of things.
Glad you enjoyed it Robert, feel like it was a real eye opener of a stream. Cheers for watching and supporting!
@@JeffWhisky most definitely 👍
Was a great stream mate. Very active comments
Thank you mate, it really was active it was a struggle to keep up! Cheers for tuning in, means a lot!
Great chat guys. If people don't like any particular channel, they can always switch off. No need to make overly negative comments. No one forces them to watch. Bloody keyboard warriors!!!
Glad that you enjoyed it Bob! 100%, it is even easier to move on to the next video then negatively engage but it is all part and parcel with the wonderful whisky world. Cheers for watching and getting involved!
