I'm not a gear head and figured it would be beyond me, but this video made it much more feasible, thanks so much for being clear and showing the various parts and motions. I still say hardest part is the initial loosening of the bolts!
Straight to business and really well explained. Consider me subscribed, I thought I was in a pickle but thanks to your video seems like it’s smooth riding now. Thanks for the info🙏
for me, 10w-40 is easier to find in full synthetic motorcycle specific oil, and unless you're starting your bike in negative temperatures it won't make a difference since a 10w and 15w weight are both good below 0. Both operating temperature weights are 40 so once the bike gets up to temp it will be the same.
Oil weight can change depending on the outside temperature. 10w40 is good for a wider range of temperatures from 14⁰-113⁰F (-10⁰ - 45⁰ C) and 20w50 is good for higher temps at 41⁰-122⁰F (5⁰-50⁰C). If you're in a very hot climate then run the 20w50, but for most places the 10w40 is good
Yes there is a sight glass on the right side near the very bottom (I forgot to show in the video). have someone hold the bike level and you can look yourself, or sit on it while keeping it level and use an extending mirror to look
always use a torque wrench the cost of not using one could total the bike (blown engine if the plug and oil come out while riding), or stripping out the case threads)
is that weight recommended? I just picked up my vstar and wanna get the oil done asap. I looked on line and it said 20w-40 but I figured that was a bit weird
it all depends on the temp you're riding in. With oil weight the first number is the viscosity at cold temps, and the second is the viscosity once the engine is warm, so any oil that ends in 40 would act the same once it's warmed up. I like using 10w because it moves easier when it's cooler.
Wait... what? You 650 guys DON'T have to take the exhaust off to get to the oil filter?! That's so unfair! 😂 I really love my 1100, but I'm getting an oil filter relocator kit. Man, it's annoying! 😄 Great how-to video! 😁
It is! 😅 And to get the exhaust off, you have to loosen the bolts for the floorboards. 😂 No more for me though. Relocated both the floorboards and the oil filter. Never taking the exhaust off ever again, and now the oil changes are a half-a-beer job. 😁👌🏻
no, not necessary the oil drains the same level or on the kick stand and you dont need to look at the site glass oil level if you change the filter put in 3 quarts if you dont change the filter put in 2.7 quarts if you dont spill it all over the bike, there is no where else it can go- its IN there, you dont have to check the level if you want to check it, start the bike up so the filter will fill with oil, turn it off, then check it like you normally would, sitting on the bike, with a mirror
Thanks for the quick and straight forward video without 20 minutes of story behind it. 😊
Definitely quick and informative! Love it!
I endorse this comment
06' 650 rider herem You earned a subscribe by cutting straight to the point. Keep up the great work
Made the job easier knowing which bolts to loosen off. Good job, dude...
Short and specific and sweet. Good camera angle thanks!

Your awesome brother. Right to the point and very straightforward. If only all "how-to's" were this great. Thank you sir.

Perfect video. Straight to the point with no bs. Thanks for sharing!
0:35 I trying to figure out how do you tighten the two hex nuts on the right side above drain for the oil? The frame of the bike is in the way.
couldn't ask for a better video :)
Beautiful simple and important tutorial thank bro

good vid thanks , now to do my first oil change on the 650
My 2000 drain plug doesn't have room between the kickstand to get the bolt off, I have to lift it & remove the kickstand
Omg thank so much this really show me how to do my oil change myself wow
Now can you just pour 3 quartz in when replacing the filter. Or will that hurt anything
Appreciate your help with the oil change.... However after 60 degrees in outside temperature Yamaha recommends 15w-40

A lot of people recommend mobil 1 v-twin 20w-50?? What is the proper oil for a 2013 vstar 650?? I live in utah so mostly hot here.
Thank you sir for the helpful video give u my like 👍🏾
So why do shops claim they have to remove the exhaust and upcharge for it??
Perfect video man thanks
Appreciate u man !😊
Great video.👍🏽
Is 10w40 right I gave it a google and it suggested 20w50?
Oil weight can change depending on the outside temperature. 10w40 is good for a wider range of temperatures from 14⁰-113⁰F (-10⁰ - 45⁰ C) and 20w50 is good for higher temps at 41⁰-122⁰F (5⁰-50⁰C). If you're in a very hot climate then run the 20w50, but for most places the 10w40 is good
@@RDMotoring thanks for the quick response and good info man 🤘
Thank you brother, salute!
Thank you so much this was so helpfull
Great video my man. Got an 02 VStar 650 myself. Love it! Only 12K miles with V&H pipes.
Really good video. Thank you
Just bought my ‘99 v-star. The guy had the oil changed a week or two before I bought it. How often should it be changed?
This is up for debate, but personally I'll change mine every 5000 miles (8000 km) or once a year, whichever comes first.
Nice video, thanks. Can i check oil level somehow after oil and filter change?
Yes there is a sight glass on the right side near the very bottom (I forgot to show in the video). have someone hold the bike level and you can look yourself, or sit on it while keeping it level and use an extending mirror to look

Excellent! Thanks!
Great video thank you
I use a paint roller pan to catch the oil, just be reeeeal careful lol
Привет, Почему 10 w40? Там по-моему 20 на 50
Thank you 🙏
Where can i buy those tires?
Shinko 777, you can find them online, I had them shipped to me
Sweet
Thank you sir

you cant find the 20W40 motorcycle oil anywhere anymore - its all 15W40 or 10W40

Great how-to video! 😁
You have to remove your exhaust?? Sounds like a major design flaw
It is! 😅 And to get the exhaust off, you have to loosen the bolts for the floorboards. 😂 No more for me though. Relocated both the floorboards and the oil filter. Never taking the exhaust off ever again, and now the oil changes are a half-a-beer job. 😁👌🏻
Faaaabulous
MY GUY
wow lmao that's the same stock music they use for those Most Iconic Characters videos
Shouldn't the bike be standing level to see the oil window.
no, not necessary
the oil drains the same level or on the kick stand
and you dont need to look at the site glass oil level
if you change the filter put in 3 quarts
if you dont change the filter put in 2.7 quarts
