***** The G Flex 2 used in the reviews were still not fully optimized and LG had already posted a statement of it declaring that the software is still unfinished and assures users that the end product will be a lot better... But yeah, judging from the benchmark leaks, the Exynos SoCs were great ones.
It seems like LG have yet to address my major gripe - battery life. I ditched the G3 for the Sony Z3 because. It's the worst, but power use left me at 20% by 5pm most days.
This phone was amazing. The main thing about the curve - when you drop the phone the front surface never hits the ground. I must have dropped this phone 150 times. Parking lots, road surfaces, concrete steps - never a scratch or crack. I didn't expect that when I got the phone. I cant even count how many dropped and cracked iPhones I've seen. I had the phone 3 years before I realized it shot 4k - and it was beautiful. If Steve Jobs made this phone it would be in a museum
+D13H4RD2L1V3 i got new gflex 2 few days back. there was many updates from lg. after that, no heat problem and no problems with battery. its taking one and half hour to recharge the battery with lg fast charger which came with the package and i tested the battery by watching video and calling etc, it took eight and half hour to drain out the charge completely. Its working like champion.
Andrew Ward we just got the demo model in our Sprint store a couple days ago. I've been playing around with it and haven't noticed any lag. Seems to be as smooth as the g3 to me.
5.1.1 update is a life saver. Just bought the phone and it booted with the 5.0.1 version. For the couple of minutes i used it before updating, i coulda bloody cooked an egg on it. When i update to 5.1.1 the overheating was just GONE! Brilliant phone, superfast and i really do like LG's os!
+Evil Spock I've still got it and still using it. It is a good phone. BUT, one thing i didn't really notice is the incompetence of LG whilst they designed the screen on the phone. It is an OLED screen and has nice colours, however it has a grainy look to it at normal brightnesses and LG decided to increase the lowest brightness so the phones screen is soo bright. Honestly, i would have preferred getting an IPS LCD screen. Flexes are going for dirt cheap now, but if you can look for an alternative (i.e. oneplus X or the Moto X Style) that will be better. Also battery life is rather poor, I can only get 4hr30min SOT if i disable everything including sync. But with sync on i get around 3 to 3hr30mins.
I've owned the LG Flex 2 for years now I paid $400 for it it's 2023 and it's still my primary phone the screen quality still holds up with any new phone in 2023 I'll rock it till it dies or if they finally release a Flex 3 I'll buy that but I'm not holding my breath for a new LG Flex 3 btw how come LG never made a Flex 3 🤔
$250 new on eBay right now. Its locked to AT&T but is shipped with an unlock code according to the listing, so its basically unlocked. It's a damn steal!
Got a flex 2 H955 with the 5.1.1 update. NO LAG. NO OVERHEATING. Battery life I get an average of 4hrs 30mins screen-on time. BUT; the screen gets slightly grainy and blotchy on low brightnesses. My only shortcoming of the phone. NEVERTHELESS; it's the best phone I've had and I got it for dirt cheap!
On Amazon nowadays you can get this phone brand new for about 250-280And Android 5.1.1 really helps, greatly reduces lag and slightly boosts the battery life.Definitely considering buying this.
I've owned a G Flex 2 for about 3 months now. I'll admit the performance was nerve racking but LG didn't lie about fixing issues with future updates. Lollipop 5.1.1 had come to the G Flex 2 and performance has just been so much better. No overheating. No throttling whatsoever. I can bring out the best of my G Flex 2 now and with Android "M" on the way later on and hopefully a UX 4.0 update to the device, the G Flex 2 is a must have
Just bought this phone, coming from a OnePlus One, both AWESOME phones but I do feel that the G Flex 2 is much much smoother, scrolling and opening up apps is so much easier and faster, still love my OPO though but Ill be sticking with the G Flex for a while or until I get bored
I've owned the LG Flex 2 for years now it's 2023 and it's still my primary phone the screen quality still holds up with any new phone in 2023 I'll rock it till it dies or if they finally release a Flex 3 I'll buy that but I'm not holding my breath for a new LG Flex 3
It doesn't overheat because of throttling. It most likely throttles a lot seeing the Antutu test scores lower considerably when testing one after another compared to other chipsets.
It is kind of a bummer to hear about the performance issues so I think I'm going to put up a cheap G Flex 1 as I hear it has excellent battery life and runs pretty well.
Owned the flex 2 and i has to say, the phone is quite impressive (after android 5.1.1 of course, it heats up less after), and It was for only $150 on eBay new. The only downside is that as of the time of this posting (dec '16), it has not received android MM update whereas S6 Edge already has. Contacted both LG and At&T (i have the H950 variant) via phone/email and each one points the finger to each other, "we cant do anything unless they do something". The phone is great but because it is being handled poorly, I'd probably go with samsung next when this phone is on its last leg. Noted it these two are released at about the same time and LG already abandoned it, about a year in.
Having a Sprint version of this already, I can definitely vouch that the lagginess is caused by the asian bloatware. This is the first android phone I've ever had that compares to the smoothness found in the Iphone.
***** you should check the western version of the flex 2.... i bought it two days ago here in italy and it doesn't have problems at all! maybe it's time for a new review i think..... great job by the way!
Wow, I was eyeing this pretty adamantly too, but it seems it has the same issues that I had with my G3 in that the software feels laggy and the device gets very hot. LG seems to be focusing more on beating the flagships in numbers rather than quality and elegance. I hope once my 2 yr agreement is up, I can once again look to LG for a viable option to purchase my next device, but as it stands, I'll stick with Samsung. There were aspects of the G3 I really did enjoy like customizable soft keys and a dorsal power button.
My 5.1.1 ATT bloated H950 scored 64608 in antutu 6.1.4 just a smidgen below the V10. Overheating doesn't seem to be an issue for 5.1.1, I ran a bench mark then promptly downloaded two games, played Sonic Dash, went on youtube, played a 4k (well actually 1080) video and then benchmarked it with 63700. then played Sonic again to check for frame drops, but nothing. Snappy without any hiccups, I have a feeling that aging batteries are a culprit to overheating phones, if a pack can't deliver enough voltage, the current goes up and so does heat.
It puzzles me the wide range of experiences reviewers have had with the G Flex 2. Pretty inconsistent software. I think the new UI that will launch with the G4 may help
My dad wanted a g flex 1 but I convinced him to get a note 4. I liked the g flex line but I have also noticed, you are about the only big u tube channel to review it. Maybe that's for a reason. I don't know.
I wish people would stop comparing this phone to the Note Edge. This phone has a curved screen that is actually useful. The Note Edge has a random curved screen on an edge that adds almost no functionality and creates problems with handling and durability.

Wawaweewa Rice I looked at the original Flex in the stores when I was looking for a new phone, and I think the curve actually does really improve the handling. Plus it fits better in pockets unless you face the screen outward.
F_L_A_M_E I personally like the "banana" shape curve (unlike the galaxy round taco). But I don't see any significant improvement for this to become mainstream. The components suffer from it (motherboard doesn't curve, and there's less space to shove in a high capacity battery), and I don't like LG's use of glossy plastic. The self healing back is a gimmick because it scratches more than other materials to begin with, and doesn't heal from any serious scratches
With the GUI not changing I understand because they just changed the GUI with the lg g3, though I'd like to see it be more optimised with the g4 on the 28th
I have upgraded my g pro2 to lollipop no stutters at all. Very smooth and it is few month old phone. No idea why this newer handset with better internals cant match that.
What i don't understand is that this is a phone with the fastet processor around. A processor that is faster than most computers a few years ago, yet it cant run an android operating system smoothly. However heavy this lg skin is it should be able to run smoothly with the s810 chipset
The device is too small for the 64bit chip, hence the overheating and lag. No worries. They gave devices to tech reviewers such as android authority to test and report back any issues. LG will make sure that they're all fixed before released.
The weirdest thing with this phone is the camera for me.. when I heard it has the same camera as the G3 I was exited. So, the G Flex 2 on an 810 is a stuttery mess while the G4 on an 808 moves like butter.
Optimization wins.
+D13H4RD2L1V3 do you think the g4c is good too or better than the spirit

not that good. in day light its okay..... but in dark, its not at all good.
it's snapdragon 801, Josh Sid 810 but the text says 801, 810 didn't exist in that time did it?
Im the only one watching this in 2019
Nope
No. I miss this phone. I was under my parent's authority with their phone plan and had to give it up.
MyPointOfView I’m using the original G flex’s screen to make a foldable phone and I’m super excited :P
2023 here
Laggy. It's all we have to know.
You should be A LOT harsher on it. It's simply unacceptable on a 2015 flagship.
I'm excited about a western version. Let's hope it's because of the bloatware and that UI updates can fix the issues.
David Wozniak Honestly, I don't think it's gonna be any better.
I heard the Sprint variant in US don't have any issues with software, though I agree this version should of been better.
This is why I won't even consider LG phones, they're laggy messes
Andrew Ward we just got the demo model in our Sprint store a couple days ago. I've been playing around with it and haven't noticed any lag. Seems to be as smooth as the g3 to me.
2020 and i still miss my original LG Flex phone. it worked just fine for me.

Are there any other phones around that price? Name them?
+Nazza i'll take a look.
the phone feels good in my pocket, but now i have ants in my pants
I've owned the LG Flex 2 for years now I paid $400 for it it's 2023 and it's still my primary phone the screen quality still holds up with any new phone in 2023 I'll rock it till it dies or if they finally release a Flex 3 I'll buy that but I'm not holding my breath for a new LG Flex 3 btw how come LG never made a Flex 3 🤔
Update?
I miss LG phones btw. HTC too actually.
2020 watching on my LG G7 and I still kinda want one of these
Mee to man
Had 2 of Them, and i miss The design
I used the sprint model at the store for nearly 15 minutes and there was no lag and it just seemed much smoother.
Thats good news

The ants at the beginning of the video seem 2 like the phone anyway :)
G FLEX + CM = NO lag and a win
this phone looks dope. can't wait to see what the LG G Flex 3 will be able to do...
If it didn't bootloop it would have been one beast of a phone.

Very nice review. My main concern is that the screen is plastic and scratchable. I dislike screen films. Have you tried Nova Launcher?
It is kind of a bummer to hear about the performance issues so I think I'm going to put up a cheap G Flex 1 as I hear it has excellent battery life and runs pretty well.
this design, with the latest hardware, and i am in.
Sadly LG's smartphone department is just going down with each passing year
Great review Josh. Look forward to more.
This was really 5 years ago and Apple are now patenting a self healing screen... Damn.

So, is it worth buying this phone?
Can't wait for ASUS Zenfone 2 full review when it come out.
Ive had this for 2 years now, it starts out fast but after a few months its gets hot and lags like hell especially on snapchat.
i had the same problem, also with snapchat and then it bootloop on me. It lags a lot too I upgraded to a Samsung.

My dad wanted a g flex 1 but I convinced him to get a note 4. I liked the g flex line but I have also noticed, you are about the only big u tube channel to review it. Maybe that's for a reason. I don't know.
Damn, it was really modern back then and I wanted to buy it.
Can you make a video "LG G Flex 2 now"?
Is this a good buy for 190$ (new) these days?
Yes
I played with the sprint version and the lag was nonexistent!
Hi Android Authority the video thumbnail you're using has an error :) It's supposed to be a review but it states that it is an unboxing video :)
I wish people would stop comparing this phone to the Note Edge. This phone has a curved screen that is actually useful. The Note Edge has a random curved screen on an edge that adds almost no functionality and creates problems with handling and durability.
It's not really useful either. The only advantage I can think of is when calling, otherwise it can be passed as a gimmick. The curve also makes it bulge in your pocket

Wawaweewa Rice less space to fit in a high capacity battery? The original G Flex could fit in a 3500mAh unit... Bigger than most other phablets
Eric Nonis it was a 6" phone, look at the flex 2

Thank You, Very good information, I will be getting a Flex this week as a replacement on a samsung
some problems on the video:
- it's written 801 instead of 810 in performance
- unboxing in the video image
red or silver?
Lg g flex 2 or One plus x??? Please respond !!! (And yes i know the specs of each smartphone)
a metal edge or just plastic?
I have upgraded my g pro2 to lollipop no stutters at all. Very smooth and it is few month old phone. No idea why this newer handset with better internals cant match that.
what is the price
is it worth upgrading to this?i still have a g2 and kinda want something new
What is the point of reviewing a Korean version? Will the United States version have different specs?
They need to bring back this design
The thumbnail for this video says g flex 2 UNBOXING... Think you should change it.
is it full plastic?
Lg flex 2 has a serious bootloop problem like the lg g4 😭 it should also be added in the lawsuit

I have the LG G3! I love LG phones but this new LG G flex 2 looks very laggy. Not well optimize with the Lg Skin! I hope an update come soon like they did with the G3! I got high hopes for this Phone
Still overheating issues and very bad battery life?
yeah very bad and I just got this 5 days ago but I'm returning mine for a nexus 6
+Nono Bonono i dont think the same. it overheats when you get the cameraor games on for too long (normal, as every phone does). the battery lasts me quite a lot. i never spend the whole charge with games/camera/etc., but i could get 4-5 or more hours on screen

I went from a nexus 5 to iPhone 5s as an experiment to the LG g flex 2 now I see no problems battery life is great because I am a heavy user
Does this phone receive updates from Lg??
what camera are you using for this review ??
The video cover says unboxing, but this is the full review
Does it have wireless Charging?
If Not, Can I Put a wireless charging Sticker into it?
This phone, the Moto G4 or the OnePlus X?
So is this an unboxing or a review
What game was he playing
So, if you get the phone and root to get rid off the tweaks LG made into the software. Would that be a better experience with the snap 810?
I'm little bit disappointed on the LG G Flex 2 everyday performance. Great review by the way.
Yeah so much for the 810. I'm looking to see Samsung's SOC Exynos. They may have made a better choice than LG & HTC
Teejaye1100
Reviews have already showed the Exynos chips suck compared to the Qualcomm ones.
TekReview's wtf are you talking about. The Galaxy S6 has the Exynos 7420 and benchmarks the highest with the least battery consumption
Ryan O'Neill I was talking about the Note 4 models, MAN! We in the USA did not get EXYNOS we got Qualcomm. Get it? Note 4 with Qualcomm scored better then the last gen Exynos, DUDE.
Oh I thought you were talking about the S6
