The unicorn commercial would make a great advertising case study. It does take guts to run this kind of breakthrough creative, and it doesn't always pay off. In this case, you have to admire the company founders for taking the risk.

Brilliant ! For me it was the guy speaking witty line with that ancient British accent who did the trick than the Unicorn which just sat and pooped ! Guy deserves credit B-)
It's a good ice breaker for a sensitive type product to talk about it helps take away the awkwardness and kept me watching to see how far it would go and it couldn't have gone any further , there should be more commercials like these funny and fun to watch
My favorite part was the unicorn swirling it up on the ice cream cone that was/is priceless
The best part was the ending because you think it's winding down...instead it had me burst with laughter at the end with the tissue.
The actor and the guys who put it together did it amazingly well.
I can't stop laughing since the commercial interrupted my Docurama documentary; I actually stopped the documentary just so I could google the commercial and watch it again. Aghhhhh, LOL! Then I texted link to two friends, both physicians. The unicorn's so adorable!
One time at a manager's meeting we had a guest speaker come in and talk about how important it is to listen you your younger employees.
The example he used was an upscale salon that was feeling the heat when a SuperCuts opened up across the street. They of course advertised their $10 hair cuts with signs.
So one of the younger employees suggested that they should put out a sign of their own that read, "We fix $10 haircuts"
At first the manager rejected the proposal, because it was too "edgy". Eventually they went with it. It brought home the idea that you get what you pay for and drummed up business for themselves.
The point of the story was that your younger employees are going to be more intune with how the current generation thinks. They know what they like to see. They speak the lingo.
This is far and away one of the best adverts I have ever seen. I know about your product before this came out, but had forgotten about it. I will never forget it again.
I already own a squatty potty (learned about it via Howard) and just discovered this video. I love it so much, I'm sending the original and auto-tune to all my fiends!
Selling this thing with humor was so much more effective than from a clinical point of view just because of the subject matter--SO many 'crap' products cite endorsements from 'experts', and they aren't worth a second look. THIS is brilliant. I thinks it's HILARE.
For me it was the actor. He reminds me a bit of Wesley from Princess Bride. He was incredibly handsome and the way he delivered his lines was so funny I couldn't stop laughing! He was hilarious! I share this video all the time as an example of good advertising. If you give me a commercial I actually have fun watching, your chances of getting me as a customer increase big time!

The Squatty Potty ad has so far represented the ONLY ad that has ever popped up to cover my screen on my way into a site where I stopped my finger from clicking it off within the first second or two. I understand the commercial aspects of such pop-up ads but hate them with a passion and just refuse to watch them out of principle. The goofy unicorn pooping ice-cream was irresistible though: I *had* to see what the heck the crazy ad was about. Was someone crazy enough to think this was a good way to advertise a new ice cream brand??? Was it some sort of political spoof? What the heck WAS it??? Once it was done, the main thought in my head was that "THIS ad has an absolute lock on winning whatever 'Best Ad of 2015/16' contests there might me!"

I'm glad you guys went with the unicorn commercial! The only reason I know about your awesome product and purchased one was because I was intrigued by the funny looking unicorn so I pressed play on the video. I don't watch shark tank or listen to Howard stern and I'm sure a lot of other people my age don't either.

probably the best commercial of its time.... i normally turn off commercials... i saw this one as an animated GIF and thought it was so unique i had to seek out its origins and find out more.... I heard of squatty potty via radiolab well before I saw this video. But the video is so awe and shock that it's brilliant! It kind of cemented my memory. It's done. I can't forget squatty potty. Now, that said... I'm afraid to say one doesn't need to buy a stool to do that. One could make one. But some folks don't want to put in the effort. I think it was successful!

Also liked your educational video from 2012 because of its great graphics/sound effects- all toilet related! Hard to keep a straight face writing this but the squatty potty is a seriously good idea.

Expand to making actual toilets, that are lower to the ground. Would that not work toward the same affect?
Jordan Frerichs that would unfortunately be very difficult for weak or I'll people to use, especially since in the west we often are bad at doing stable squatting, unlike countries where they do it since childhood. Often wearing high heels can also shorten your akilles tendons and make it very difficult to get up from an unsupported squatting position. As opposed to just lowering your legs after elevating them and then getting up that way.

considering the product this was for, how could you not go there? Most advertising is immediately forgetful if not irritating, but being bold is no guarantee it won't backfire spectacularly. Using humor is becoming more and more risky as certain entities become more and more butthurt about, well, pretty much everything. (hmm... they might benefit from a SqPty)
