That wasn't just spite, that was Wrath, the kind with teeth and talons. I could HEAR the claw marks running across the word as it dragged out of his throat.
Before we start, fun little fact: Konami doesn’t recognize the term “archetype” in the way players use the word. Officially, any series of cards intended to have direct synergy with each other are “themes.” Konami has officially used the term “archetype” once though: As part of a name for a monster card called “Dark Archetype.” EDIT: My point with this comment is to illustrate that the word “archetype” is a word that the playerbase invented. Similar to the terms Garnet, hand trap, brick, etc. We use the word “archetype” to comfortably categorize groups of cards, and sometimes the way we choose to use the word is a lot more limiting than how cards are actually designed.
"Harpies are unique in Yu-Gi-Oh as almost every Harpie monster can change it's name to be Harpie Lady when it's on the field or in the Graveyard." Laughs in Cyber Dragon
Just wanted you to know that I enjoy your style of content that I watched an entire video about yugioh archetypes and enjoyed it. I'm a Magic: the Gathering player
1:08 Actually, Summoned Skull's Japanese name is "Summoned Demon" (literally the katakana for "demon" is in its name: デーモンの召喚), and its name was conceived was before the TCG standardized "Archfiend" as the replacement name for "Demon". This is why Archfiends are such a mismash archetype (and also why so many cards in their archetype have the bracketed caveat of being an "Archfiend" card when its name doesn't have it), because "demon" is a fairly popular word to use for Monster names. And boy, does the strictness of card names make things so awkward between TCG/OCG, like the whole deal behind Blaze Cannon.
Funfact: The smallest archetype is made from 2 non realated cards...."Skyblaster" to be perfect...."Phantom Skyblaster" and "Castel, Skyblaster" only Phantom has a Effect that mentions "Skyblasters" and...that was for its Tokens but Castel came out and Konami....forgot Phantom exist soooo....archetype.
good news! as of dawn of majesty, they got a third member in clavkiys, the magikey skyblaster, which hilariously continues the trend of the skyblaster "archetype" consisting of completely unrelated cards
4:42 I remember how happy I was that you mentioned this, but then remembered that they made blue eyes synchro to literally stop pendulum decks in order for this to win
Bumbles could literally talk about anything and I'd probably watch it, I knew barely anything about the Burger King Games, Robo Navi, and Yugi-Oh until you started making these videos. Thanks!
My favourite archetype is Vendreads. I stopped playing before they even came out, but they're cool as hell and they tell a story. And they're clearly influenced by The Thing and Resident Evil.
I’m really feeling the rata influence in a few of the jokes Harpie spelling, spell economics plus toon world, the same “blast it with your blue eyes” quip, the patriots reference with kuriboh, calling Imperion’s name cool. Course it could all be a coincidence but it’s interesting to see his influence all over the YGO community.
I can’t wait to see if you talk about my favorite Archetype - Magical Musket, known as “Madan” in Japanese, meaning Magibullet. They’re based on the opera Der Freischütz, and all have effects based on you or your opponent activating spells or traps in their column.
How have I never found your channel before? Your presentation of each archetype manages to perfectly balance comedy with actually giving me a good analysis of what makes each deck 'tick'; I'm definitely subscribing to see what I've been missing out on.
One thing to clear up something Bumbles said: Most of the monsters in a Harpie deck aren't actually Elegant Egotist targets because they aren't treated as Harpie Lady while in the deck or hand. Just run 3 Hapie Lady 1 for it because stacking attack boosts is fun when every single monster in the archetype benefits from it
Ah yes. The many archetypes of Yugioh. Blue eyes will always be one of my favorites. Edit: Blue eyes decks are essentially beat the snarf out of everything that moves.
I like Dark Magician, only issue is good consistent engine and protection. You have negates and such, but it is exclusively if you have the core monster(s) on the field. They can search well enough, but with many of the cards needing a normal summon to use the effect, you need at least two normal and a good negate protection in the form of a counter to work. Or at the very least give them effects like "Magiicans' Combination", where it has another beneficial effect if destroyed, and not like "Eternal Soul" where you lose your monster if it is removed from field. Also they did it dirty because Blue-Eyes get a version that searches any card that lists it, meanwhile DM get only a feather duster that works ONLY if he is on field, and a target destruction in "Thousand Knifes" (which is surpassed by other in the archtype like magical circle). I Love the notion of his deck being his effect, they just need to do more with it. It's like they are afraid of making him good.
I would love a video on the pokemon musical since it's such an obscure piece of pokemon media and has some cool noncanon things like Giovanni being implied to be ash's father
I found your channel through the Yu-Gi-Oh iceberg and I loved that video. Great to see you doing more Yu-Gi-Oh stuff, even if that's not the main focus of your channel anymore.
Ahh the OCG name being the determining factor to wether or not something is part of an archtype, that's how we got Arsenal Summoner with half its card text being exclusions to its search effect...and then they printed more cards it could search in the future anyway.
The sequel we all needed. Also the previous video was actually good, one of my favorite iceberg videos. Oh, and I only realized just now the word "Harpy" is spelled differently.
Hello sir bumbleton, I just remembered this video existed so I decided to rewatch it just commenting to say that I'm looking forward to the next installment!

Comic Hand (plus it also searches all of the monsters as well as Toon Terror, Toon World and Toon Kingdom just like Toon Table of Contents, but I'm trying to lay out the differences)

Missed a yugi archetype: "Celtic Guard" is technically an archetype because it has 3 monsters and one of them supports them ("celtic guard of noble arms") 😜
"seriously only monarchs brick worse than blue-eyes" that hurt and someway i can't deny it but at least we got a decent field spell that doubles as a flood gate Isn't red-eyes play style burn? No for real it's a question
Red-Eyes wants to churn out a powerful extra deck monster, but the support is so scattered across so many play styles. One could argue that this isn't always a bad thing, because Red-Eyes can take a tool-box approach to building their extra deck.

Oh hell yeah, can’t believe I missed this! Master Duel got me back into the game and I was able to build the Vampire deck I’d dreamed of since the GX era. Funny how Vampire Genesis, the archetype’s “trump card” of that era, is one I rarely get use out of- Book of Life has the same effect with no cost to you, and much better support has come out since then. Pyramid Turtle still makes for excellent support given how low a lot of their defenses can be too. Can’t wait to see if they get covered and how they stack up!
You really tie together many topics into one channel, you don't see someone make a list of the date ability of yugioh cards, to then do a game review of chicken Little on GameCube, so happy I found the punch out video last year this channel has been hype

Then again it's hard to believe that card is dark magician related since people love to use it for everything BUT the dark boi (Looking at you SPYRAL 😡) Still love the Dark Magician archetype though.
That Red-Eyes thing is really unfortunate, I always kinda liked Red-Eyes more than Blue-Eyes as a kid. My head canon is that they gave Mai Harpies because it almost sounds like herpes and she seems like the kinda character to have that

Besides, he ritual summons from Super Soldier Synthesis, and every time you play that you can go "Super Soldier Synthesis, doo dah, doo dah". ...I do like that in Yugioh, a game with the wackiest and most creative monster types in a hundred k radius, I can choose to specialise in Black Luster Soldier, or "elf with sword and shield".
