@@MrsLana92 that's definitely a mod, the mimic mod. It records you, detects sentences, sends those sound clips to the people you're playing with (I think, not entirely sure on that), and then has the enemies play those sounds.

me and my friends have been talking about this idea since the skinwalker mod came out. a local LLM would have to be run on the host's machine and will take a bit of setup to get it to relay it's chosen responses to the game. and another ai would be needed to get a transcript of what's been said. definitely a big undertaking

A Vashta Nerada enemy would also be incredibly terrifying. Like a dark room that even your flashlight can't pierce through. Perhaps you can't even kill it with a shovel instead needing to Flashbang the room to cause it to move out of the room.

My "friend" had us use a modpack he put together. One of the mods took clips of our voices throughout gameplay and the monsters would playback those clips. You'd hear a distant scream and realize it was the loot bug next to you. "Guys, I need help over here" from a flowerman. Shit was terrifying.

@@kiiyll The Mirage Mod is so brilliant. With the skinwalker mod, when two players meet the mimic, it's pretty easy to figure it out. But with the mirage mod it's pure chaos.
I think it would be really cool if there were special voicelines for when the enemy is hurt. The more panicked the lines are, the better, so that it sounds like a real human reaction. Perhaps if the AI has been chasing you for awhile, it could start dropping more menacing lines as well like "You don't need to run" or "Hey, it's just me"
It's difficult to specify tone in many voice synthesisers. Usually it just takes your text and outputs *a reasonable way* of saying it. Getting it to act panicked is much more difficult. Might be possible though, IDK.
Looking at this. AI Teammates that can pick up items and "try" to take them back to the ship, try and fight monsters with weapons, etc. in this would be crazy and chaotic for solo players but you can give it Twitch chat support for a selected viewer. So they can say funny stuff. This is cool honestly hope you keep going with different things with this. :)
I can only imagine the INSANITY that would occur from adding a monster that makes you unable to speak and instead forces YOU to use the ai voice lines. You could even update the code for masked enemies to prefer using the voice lines your teammates use so it's harder to develop strategy. Going even even further with the idea, you could make the masks sometimes pick up items nearby players drop so you can't say "pick up this item" or something as easily. There's so much you can do with the mimicking players idea and I hope Zeekerss does more with it!
Expanding my own comment more, it'd be so cool if the only way you could remove the enemy that makes a player use ai voice lines was to get up close to the player who has it affecting them to remove it.

Dude! you should add player prompts for speakable text. as in, after you provide voice data, you write a few sentences for: (ambient), (seen player), (approaching player) and (hurt by player), etc. Great mod!

This is when you start processing dialog with chatgpt so they can have dynamic conversations. Voice to text > chatgpt prompt on a custom model > voice lines. Then for added spice, you distort everyones voice, including the AI, so everyone sounds fake. All of the sudden you have context aware crew members and everyone sounds like there mic is made with two cans a string.
imagine if it used both real and ai lines, so that it would make uncanny valley moments where you can tell that there is something a bit wrong with your friend lol
idea that has just come in mind: imagine if there was a creature that would desguise as a player who is dead and hide his body or just steal the player’s body, then this creature would use the AI voice and chatgpt to have a conversation and act like somebody, the AI could try to learn the way that a player talks or act
Very amazing stuff and great project ! As you mentioned, would be amazing for mimics to be able to interact vocally with other players ! An other idea, but I don't know if it could be feasible from a game dev point of view, would be to also "learn" the non-verbal behavior of players to replicate them, just to make them "more human" visually ;)
i prefer the Skinwalker mod. Instead of using power intensive AI, having everyone voice sample, etc, it just samples everyone's speech client side and has mobs use it randomly. It's their actual voice, and tests your memory of "did they say that before" before the bracken who said it snaps your neck.
You need to run it through an AI like GPT 4o when it comes out. You could have it build auditory sets from players to not just get the fake response.. but it would have variation, could respond to your questions, and also have proper fluctuation.
Escape the backrooms has a mimic that just says “hey” with a realistic voice chat filter. Normally I don’t think this fools anyone but I was playing with a friend whose voice matched it _exactly_ and it got me every single time.
Imagine mixing this with AI generated lines like with chatgpt or something so on occasion you could endup having full on conversations about whats happening in game and not realizing it's an AI clone.

The mod "Mirage" does this, and unlike the skinwalker mod, it synchronizes the voice clips so everyone hears the same thing.

You could have it build auditory sets from players to not just get the fake response.. but it would have variation, could respond to your questions, and also have proper fluctuation.
That's the ultimate end goal of this project!
