4:40 To answer Blair’s question about why you go farther in shallow water: It’s called ground effect and planes experience this when landing. Something to do with the vortices of the wing tips reducing the amount of aerodynamic drag of the plane causing it to “float” on a cushion of air. I’m sure that the same mechanics apply in the water seeing as how both are technically fluids and the skimboard has rails that would cause vortices along the trailing edges much like a plane’s wingtips :)
Air hockey board use high pressure zones like this reduces drag on the puck. Never really considered fluid dynamics would work similar. We need DUSTIN at Smarter Every Day to make a video with these guys and explain the science to us. LoL
Just saw the white claw clip/sponsor. Congratulations. I just want to say I’ve been watching you skim since like 08’ 09’ in those sick skim videos that used to come out back then. You have been absolutely killing it in the skim since always and forever
The overhead shot at 15:39 is SO helpful! Thanks for including that shot because it clearly shows the point when they get on their board and where the wave is at as they go for it. It's a very helpful angle for understanding the for skimmers like me who are still working on drop timing. Good stuff!
I started skimming on a wood board fell and didn’t try for the rest of the summer “kept watching ur vids” but I just met u yesterday and I’m about to buy an exhile and try again

I have tried a surfboard on the river waves a couple of times and the fins seem to have quite a bit of drag. It is also harder to turn on a river wave with fins in the board than you would think.
@@SkidKids Jaime does alright with a twin fin, but just repeats the same maneuver over and over, probably trying not to pearl. On a side note it would be so effing awesome if you could pull off a jump from one river peak to another. You would probably need to rotate in mid air to properly orientate yourself, but you could land it in the flats right ahead of the second peak. Somebody is gonna pull that move sooner or later, and better you than Italo.
I'm willing to bet this is exactly how surfing was invented thousands of years ago. Locals would of witness the natural breaks, then some bright spark saw a flat piece of driftwood and said "watch this! ". The rest is history.

wouldn't a skim travel farther on shallow water because the board is forcing the water down and if it hits the bottom it would be pushed back up? equal and opposite reaction. board pushes water down, sand pushes water up, board get more lift.
@@SkidKids it's def ground effect. like in a wakesurf boat the waves to boat generates don't get as big as they do in deep water. Hey Blair next river break ask Austin to brind down some of his Wakesurf boards. It might blow your mind...(it blew mine)

Only 3% of world's water is freshwater and even lesser % is drinkable. You and your group have just lessened the usable water supply for clicks... Thanks for being yourselves. God bless.
and it's safer to let the river flow instead backing up with algae and scum and disease and Covid juice and SARS puss...yeah let the river run Blair1!!
This may happen naturally, but you caused it, which isn’t natural. There are ebbs and flows, you forcing that to happen is very unnatural and damaging.
You are the one who should think… when you hastily make this happen on your own swashing water from side to side, versus allowing it to happen in its own, this causes more sand erosion than the normal process allows for. This also doesn’t allow for sitting water to percolate through the sand and soil into the ground. Those are normal processes, what you are doing is not. Trying to justify anything else is just that, a justification.

The Ground effect! Sounds like even my friend in the video knew about that too! Thanks for educating me on the term. I will do my research now.

As a surfer I gotta say the perfect river tool is a skimboard (especially if Blair is riding it).

That was all city run off from rain, not drinkable fresh water. Also that will just get recycled through rain and evaporation etc.
