Hi Beryl. I'm Native American. My grandmother taught me how to make what she called "Fry Bread"...but it's not like southwestern Native American fry bread, that's more like doughboys. My gram's recipe is more like a pancake. If you are interested in making some Native American cuisine, I also have a few recipes from my cousins, such as Hull beans and salt pork, and Venison stew ❤️
Just like there are many different native groups there is many kinds of fry bread/bannock. I'm Cree from Alberta, my family usually bakes our bannock like a biscuit/bun. Where I live now, in Coast Salish territory, they fry their bannock like on Reservation Dogs do their fry bread.

0:21 Just a few tips from someone who's made similar dishes before. 1) mix the seasoning into the cream cheese first thing to make sure it gets evenly distributed. Otherwise, you run the risk of other ingredients causing it to clump in certain spots, so one person gets a "meh" seasoned bite and another gets a bite that is ALL seasoning. 2) mix in the shredded cheese last. I've found that shredded cheese tends to be very absorbent, which causes a similar situation, in that the cheese can make things clump together when if you'd mixed them in before the cheese, they'd be more evenly distributed. (Also, one final thought: for the presentation, what about a cheese log? Then people can just scoop away the end of the log. I feel like that would be less work than a bunch of mini balls.) In any case, I can see that dip being a huge smash with my family. It includes chicken, cheese, and ranch flavor, which are essentially our three favorite things 😁 4:09 It's very interesting to see a potato salad made without mayonnaise. My husband is NOT a mayo fan, so maybe he would like this or some variation of it. Also, side note, I find it very interesting/amusing that with one exception, all these appetizers include cheese. Cheese is just a party kinda food, I guess.
My Grandma made her dip into logs. My Aunt made her dip in the shape of animals which I always thought was kind of creepy. I mean, where do you start when you eat it?

The potato salat was a more South German way. In North Germany we don't use Apple and have a mayonnaise based sauce (but pickles and the pickle water for the sauce are a must, too!). It is like ios or android, there is a huge discussion about it xD I am glad you liked it! And as you said, there are soooo many variations. True, luckily she said that every region and familiy makes it different. Some don't even use pickels or even apples. Instead where I live we use soup or soup- powder added in water , some vinegar, mustard, sugar , salt, pepper and a dash of Maggie. We sauté the onions glossy in oil , this is better for digestion and you can have the salad for several days in the fridge. Sometimes we add ' Endevian ' salat thinly cut and a wee bit of garlic or even dill pickels. No matter what , German potato salad is the best ( without mayonnaise ) just like breads.
@@annachristinanotyet4678 yes, she is aware of the regional differences :) I only wanted to add more Infos, everything in the video was absolutely fine. And no, we don't eat Heringssalat. But maybe it is because my dad hates even the smell of fish and I am vegetarian xD

Hi Beryl! I have a Maggi (Indian instant ramen) recipe for you which I really want you to try if you make Maggi again! 1. Take a saucepan (turn on the flame only AFTER putting in the Maggi noodles and water together!) 2. Add the Maggi and water together. 3. Put it on high flame. 4. When the white layer forms within the bubbles on top of the noodles, and when you know that the noodles are done, add garlic powder with cayenne powder and turn off the flame. 5. Drain the water. 6. Take another pan, melt butter, put the noodles and fully coat it. Take some peas and also put them. 7. Add some chaat masala (according to your taste). 8. Add maggi masala (according to your spice tolerance level, I put 1 packet) 9. Add not thin but not thick layers of cheese in it. Mix until melted. Add just a little bit of oregano and chilli flakes (according to your taste) 10. ENJOY!
A staple and renowned party food my family makes (from Australia) is squares of camembert or brie wrapped in bacon, coated in breadcrumbs and deep fried. Soooooooooo good. Sometimes dates are added with the cheese and its absolutely delicious!
Never had that version of potato salad! My southern German mum makes mayonnaise-free potato salad with broth and vinegar in the dressing and pickles and tomatoes in it. But I think apples and onions would go lovely in it! Will try!
@@AnniCarlsson There are many cultures that have foods that hold significance and are considered tradition and/or good fortune to eat on your wedding day. For instance, in Chinese weddings a sweet red bean dessert soup with sweet rice balls (tangyuan) is often served to wish the couple sweetness in life.
@@AnniCarlsson in German speaking countries we have special wedding soups. And on the Greek island I live on there's a specific sweet that must be offered to all guests at weddings and baptisms. It's called "melekouni".
There are so many variations of cheese balls as far as ingredients, and the things you can roll them in (our family uses chopped nuts). Plus you can roll it into a log, then people can just slice off a bit.
Kartoffelsalat is such a versatile dish, it could be eaten on its own or as a side dish, with or without mayonnaise, pickles, apples etc. I absolutely love to try other people Kartoffelsalat, it's never the same and as Lea said depends on the region as well🤗
Paneer pakora🤤 here in Brazil there is something very similar to that chicken and cheese thing called "coxinha com catupiry" and for party we have bite sized version super yummy...
A party food I grew up with was corned beef, dried beef, or even salami, (just a nice salted and cured meat) with cream cheese spread in it, rolled up, and then dipped in various things, like mustard, hot sauce, honey, whatever. Super easy peasy. I also did 'random eggrolls' once for a party with my friends and they were a hit. Some had macaroni and cheese, some were pizza (mozzarella and pepperoni bits), and the third was pulled pork. Again, various sauces provided for dipping.
Every year for the past 4yrs now, I make a Hemp Cheese Ball. It is a basic vegetarian herb flavored cheese ball. The ball is compromised of Cream Cheese and Cheddar Cheese with a mix of fresh herbs & seasoning of your choice. It contains ground Hemp CBD flower, which was infused into the cream cheese over night. Then I roll the ball in Hemp Seeds, and make sure the whole thing is covered in seeds. It's not only delicious but good for you too!
I've had Donzelle at a restaurant before and it was really good. I think they just used fresh mozzarella, but the fried bread really makes it special. I'm surprised I haven't seen it more on UA-cam. Thank you for sharing it!
I'm from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada as well, and I have never heard of chicken cheese ball... it's interesting how different families put their own twists on recipes. 🙂
We have such an emotional link to tequeños, specially the ones living abroad. Almost cried seeing you enjoying them and not saying it is the same as Mozzarella fingers/sticks. Cheers from Ireland
I love this kind of German potato salad. In my version I use way more vinaigrette (vinegar, sugar, salt, pickle juice) and let the salad sit for a couple of hours. So the potatoes soak up all the vinaigrette and the salad is super fresh and moist. Perfect for a hot summers day barbecue.
I would press the chicken cheese ball into silicon heart moulds for individual portions. We make the sauce for our potato salad from onion, apple, gherkins, miracle whip, some gherkin brine, salt, pepper and a teaspoon of sugar. Some people in my family do not care for raw onions so i throw the cubed apple and onion into the microwave with a little applejuice or water as the first step. Loved this vid a lot. Happy holidays to all celebrating
You took the words right out of my mouth when you said the cheese ball could be presented better. I was thinking of doing it like a cheese board. That would look look lovely.
Beryl you did venezuelan tequeños!! I absolutely love it. More Venezuelan cuisine please. Our gastronomy it's fantastic, tasty and delicious. You have to try it 😍😍
Hi from Quebec! ❄️✨ I love your videos, your curiosity and energy. I wish I could taste through the screen I'm an adventurous eater so your channel is my spirit animal. 😛
Beryl! Since you’re in NYC a better replacement for venezuelan cheese to make tequeños is the Tropical Queso de Freir. They sell it at most Latin stores. I agree with everyone that Mexican queso fresco is not necessarily the best option. You should be able to get a bit of a cheese pull when you bite a Tequeño. Also, I would highly recommend you visit a Venezuelan restaurant and get them as an appetizer, that way you’ll be able to tell the difference. Thank you for choosing tequeños they are a real Venezuelan party staple that are gaining a lot of popularity in places like Argentina and España where there are a lot of Venezuelan immigrants. ❤
From Wisconsin here, we have cheese balls during the holidays. My daughter is lactose intolerant. I make one with soft goat cheese Jarelsburg cheese which is naturally LF. For variety using blueberry goat cheese, my favorite honey goat cheese or my daughters favorite cranberry. You could also use soy creamy cheese but the goat cheese is better. We also have fried cheese curds coated in beer batter and into the fryer. Not healthy at all but so good, This is a fun episode!
That's like how my Oma makes her potato salad! She loves using a tart green apple and a sweeter red onion with some mayo to bind it. It goes so well with a roast or bbq, the pickles and apple make it almost refreshing when you're having heavier dishes
Bread and Dance... I'm a South African who worked with a number of St Helenians in England. I was privileged enough to be invited to their New Years Eve party, and amongst their buffet spread were sandwiches called 'bread and dance' as a result of their ubiquity at dances, parties or gatherings. The sandwiches are filled with a spicy tomato sauce laced with bacon and eggs (sorry Italians, but this is the way it is... think of Amatriciana sauce (the type with garlic) with added raw egg (that is cooked in the hot sauce) to add a creamier mouth-feel. Absolutely delicious with a one-of-a-kind name, and made by truly amazing people.
The cheese ball presentation is a mid-centry thing. All the one's that I've had are generally served with a knife where you cut off what you want, rather than try and think of them as a dip. Though I agree that it could be updated, could be interesting as a log to simplify the portioning.
Here (central Canada) cheese logs are usually goat cheese based and have blueberries or cranberries (sometimes nuts) on the outside. Cheese balls are cream cheese based. Both styles are served with cheese knives.
Love the mini size idea. I might make just three and put other kinds of cheese balls on the plate with them. The smoked egg dip from Betty Crocker (Ala 1965) is fabulous! Put a cheddar cheese ball with these, and whoooo!
My German grandmother used to make a similar German potato salad, except it was a more creamy texture with a very cucumber forward flavor. I've never tasted anything else like it and every other potato salad I've tasted just doesn't even hold a candle to it.
if you wanted to change the presentation on the chkn ball roll it into a log or 2 so one slice spreads out easily and it will warm faster to be more spreadable
I’ve never heard of chicken and cheese ball however where I’m from and I think it’s a staple in many places we make cheese balls. Here in NM we use Chile and piñon a lot in ours.
hi Beryl! i'm from Singapore and a staple party food item I'm used to seeing growing up (and even now) is this dish called Bihun Birthday. it's essentially fried noodles but using rice vermicelli (fried with sauteed garlic, shallots, some chilli paste if you want it spicy, black pepper) as the base - different people would add a variety of ingredients: shrimp/chicken/beef/squid/sliced tofu/fishcake/cut veggies/etc. usually served with other dishes/sides like (air)fried/baked chicken, nuggets and whatever party finger foods there are!
Us Danish people also ALWAYS add apples to potato salad and really most things that involve potatoes. Lots of similarities between the cuisines, which I didn't realize until I watched your channel!
I come from Montréal, Canada and I have never heard of the chicken cheese ball! …..cheese ball yes but without chicken……I might try it with turkey because we don’t eat chicken in my house. Rocking’ the vintage wares as usual!
Yay - Kartoffelsalat from Germany made it! I love it and I have eaten so many different ways here in Germany. And Paneek Pakora? I wasn’t able to try them as I cannot have cow‘s milk. But with Tofu? That sounds really great!
This was a fun episode. This and snacks are good episodes when people can just come up w/ anything they like. Most other things like holiday or special dishes from other countries, I like to see something traditional. Do another cheese episode and have more recipes w/ paneer, cottage cheese and ricotta. Those cheeses, people don't seem to post many recipes for. Thanks!
Meat, cheese and bread, a girl after my own heart! For us it's summer sausage, sliced cheese like cheddar etc, a little dab of sweet hot mustard and a Ritz cracker. Dang it I want that now lol

@@celianeher7637 oh that sounds interesting. I never heard of that way before, especiallywith the extra salad in it.
I'm not lying, I am crying a lot and I can't stop. Omg, seeing you frying tequeños was lovely ❤️🥺
Definitely making at least a couple of these recipes. The donzelle and the potato salad are high on my list. Fantastic idea for a video! I hope you make more of a series of these because there will be several options per country for party foods, no doubt.
German potato salad, in my family we eat it 3 different ways... so... there are millions of possibilities. 😂❤️
Potato salad is an Institution in Germany, you should do an episode on this alone. 😄❤️
I am eating it on Saturday for Christmas again.
Don’t get me started on the Paneer dish,I will crumble away in love.
Donzelle, this recipe is pure heaven,it melts in the mouth, this is Italian Supreme.
Had it on my birthday.
❤️❤️❤️
I love how most of these are fried so they also fit channukah parties
I am so glad I stumbled upon your channel this year! I've learned so much and it's provided wholesome content that helps me feel connected when I'm at home. Thank you Beryl, wishing you a festive and restful holiday season!
Hello I want to start by saying thank you so much for sharing your videos I love watching. And I was wondering where I can get one of those advent calendars with the noodles? Thank you
Agreed about making the small chicken cheese balls into small personal size balls! it seems more party friendly. Thanks Beryl! love your content! Happy holidays!!!
I'm Italian and I've never heard of Donzelle. Italian cuisine is so varied!
It happened to me with Spanish cuisine too, I'm from the Northwest of the country and I'm discovering new recipes and dishes every month from other regions of my country, thanks to the Internet.
Buon Natale 🎄😊
A first for me too, and I do not live that far from Florence!
Ahahaha sono la tipa del video, è una variante dei ben più famosi coccoli.... penso sia una roba che fa solo mia zia comunque!

An astonishing channel proving for the trillionth time. We are all the same being. We need each other to live and thrive in this life.
Those tequeños look amazinggg! Here in Argentina lots of bars have been adding tequeños to their menus. As a Venezuelan, I think we're conquering the world one tequeño at a time
I need and in fact everyone needs a Foodie friend like Beryl 😃!! Always fun to watch your videos. Loads of love from Indian in France 👋
Your videos are so informative, inspiring, and soothing. Love them. ❤️
Hi Beryl! I have a Maggi (Indian instant ramen) recipe for you which I really want you to try if you make Maggi again!
1. Take a saucepan (turn on the flame only AFTER putting in the Maggi noodles and water together!)
8. Add maggi masala (according to your spice tolerance level, I put 1 packet)
9. Add not thin but not thick layers of cheese in it. Mix until melted. Add just a little bit of oregano and chilli flakes (according to your taste)
Will try!
I love watching you cook. You make it look so easy! I appreciate that you’re willing to try anything… even desserts 😉
Hey Beryl!
Here's an idea for your next video. What about wedding dishes around the world? :)
Does counties have specific wedding foods? Don't people just have what they like and afford?
@@AnniCarlsson There are many cultures that have foods that hold significance and are considered tradition and/or good fortune to eat on your wedding day. For instance, in Chinese weddings a sweet red bean dessert soup with sweet rice balls (tangyuan) is often served to wish the couple sweetness in life.
@@AnniCarlsson in German speaking countries we have special wedding soups.
And on the Greek island I live on there's a specific sweet that must be offered to all guests at weddings and baptisms. It's called "melekouni".
very nice idea
I love this idea!!
YES, more Venezuelan food please!!!
Yes!!
I need to try Paneer Pakora ASAP
Thank you for showcasing Limca!!!!
So lovely to see you! I always loved you Great Big Story episodes! So I will be starting from the beginning to see what you have been up to!❤❤❤
I've had Donzelle at a restaurant before and it was really good.
We live in Halifax, but aren't from here. :) My mom grew up in Newfoundland, my dad in Ontario! :)
One potato salad to rule them all, one channel to find them, one UA-camr to bring them all, and in the kitchen make them.
We have such an emotional link to tequeños, specially the ones living abroad. Almost cried seeing you enjoying them and not saying it is the same as Mozzarella fingers/sticks. Cheers from Ireland
♡ Thank you for another year of great content! Merry Christmas ♡
I love this kind of German potato salad. In my version I use way more vinaigrette (vinegar, sugar, salt, pickle juice) and let the salad sit for a couple of hours. So the potatoes soak up all the vinaigrette and the salad is super fresh and moist. Perfect for a hot summers day barbecue.
we love an apple and potato combination in germany, we do it in lots of dishes
I would press the chicken cheese ball into silicon heart moulds for individual portions.
We make the sauce for our potato salad from onion, apple, gherkins, miracle whip, some gherkin brine, salt, pepper and a teaspoon of sugar. Some people in my family do not care for raw onions so i throw the cubed apple and onion into the microwave with a little applejuice or water as the first step.
Loved this vid a lot. Happy holidays to all celebrating
I forgot about tequeños! I grew up on those too in Nicaragua! Thanks for bringing this dish and making me remember a part of my my childhood! 🥹
Beryl the crunch sound you made I’ll give a 10/10!!! 😂
I love Kartoffelsalat with apples!! It’s the perfect fresh crunchy addiction to the soft warm potato
I've only had German Potato Salad because my friend's mother made it ❤️ She has passed away, but when I see you making this, it reminds me of her 🥰
Literally it's 5 different combinations of starch and cheese.... I love it.
Make this a series!! 💯
Agreed 💯
I encourage everyone to try making paneer!! It is easy and so, so delish. It's honestly nearly foolproof. So good!
Please tell us more about your wedding food? With visual aids and recreations? If possible? So curious!!!!
So many great ideas that are easily converted to vegetarian! Thanks a bunch!
I am so glad it contained vegan recipe and German too. I have a German vegan Christmas party to go to tomorrow.
I absolutely agree with you on the that first dish
My heart melts when someone says India❤Pakistan together
your channel is artwork!! love you beryl.
The chicken & cheese ball highly reminds me of the filling for Brazilian coxinhas . If you haven’t tried them already, highly recommend it !!
Party food in New Zealand is fairy bread. Buttered bread with rainbow sprinkles called 'hundreds and thousands'. It reminds me of childhood :)
Absolutely delicious with a one-of-a-kind name, and made by truly amazing people.
really excited to see Venezuelan food.
@@janellegodin2934 that sounds delicious, thanks for sharing more ways to cheese!
Love the mini size idea. I might make just three and put other kinds of cheese balls on the plate with them. The smoked egg dip from Betty Crocker (Ala 1965) is fabulous! Put a cheddar cheese ball with these, and whoooo!
That potato salad looks so different from my grandmas which has celery, boiled eggs, and mayo.
My German grandmother used to make a similar German potato salad, except it was a more creamy texture with a very cucumber forward flavor. I've never tasted anything else like it and every other potato salad I've tasted just doesn't even hold a candle to it.
Now I am hungry, everything looks delicious, thank you all.
Happy Holidays, Beryl. God bless you. Keep up the good work.
if you wanted to change the presentation on the chkn ball roll it into a log or 2 so one slice spreads out easily and it will warm faster to be more spreadable
I’ve never heard of chicken and cheese ball however where I’m from and I think it’s a staple in many places we make cheese balls. Here in NM we use Chile and piñon a lot in ours.
Hey beryl love ur vids make my day
Love from India ❤
hi Beryl! i'm from Singapore and a staple party food item I'm used to seeing growing up (and even now) is this dish called Bihun Birthday. it's essentially fried noodles but using rice vermicelli (fried with sauteed garlic, shallots, some chilli paste if you want it spicy, black pepper) as the base - different people would add a variety of ingredients: shrimp/chicken/beef/squid/sliced tofu/fishcake/cut veggies/etc. usually served with other dishes/sides like (air)fried/baked chicken, nuggets and whatever party finger foods there are!
German patato salad looks so GOOD!!!
"Ugh ...when the teeth touch each other...there shoulda been some food there " cracked me up...had to pause to have a good belly laugh😄
Meat. Cheese. and Bread...-and Onions! Sweet onions.
Cheers from the Pacific West Coast of Canada.
Love your comments on the chicken cheese balls ❤
This was a fun episode. This and snacks are good episodes when people can just come up w/ anything they like. Most other things like holiday or special dishes from other countries, I like to see something traditional. Do another cheese episode and have more recipes w/ paneer, cottage cheese and ricotta. Those cheeses, people don't seem to post many recipes for. Thanks!
Meat, cheese and bread, a girl after my own heart! For us it's summer sausage, sliced cheese like cheddar etc, a little dab of sweet hot mustard and a Ritz cracker. Dang it I want that now lol
oh my gosh I wish I would've caught when submissions were open for this, I would've submitted sausage balls, they are SO easy and the ultimate delicious addicting party food!!
