    Klatt highlighted college football’s biggest strength so well, its tribalism that’s rooted in either going to a school or living in the same town as one your whole life, and how that’s something so emotional that’s intrinsically tied to your identity as a person. Sure the NFL is a better sports product, but it’s almost sanitized to the point of boredom (that and the insatiable corporate greed leaves a sour taste). If a team wins by 10 in the NFL it’s seen as a dominant win, whereas in college, it’s so volatile (because it’s played by 20 year olds) that in any game a 10 point lead is not a safe cushion in the slightest and that’s what makes the sport so exciting and heart wrenching. It’s the heart-on-sleeve, immature and a bit sloppy garage band compared to the NFL’s clinical, precise and calculated pop hit. Both are enjoyable but for very different reasons.

    Michigan’s (Ravens style) defense was tenacious with 10 plays for loss. Many of those were big yardage losses! The Wolverines D was the difference in this game ultimately. The way DE Stewart (#5) blew up the last offensive play of the game by Bama with a pancake of Bama’s right guard (who Milroe tripped over) was awesome! And the last drive to tie the game by Michigan reminds me of Tom Brady. JJ is becoming that guy who can get you a score and a win at crunch time like Brady! Huge Rose Bowl win!

    I agree about this year being super exciting and thrilling. NIL is not killing the game. The transfer portal is not killing the game. Now perhaps the NIL needs some guard-rail rules to even things out a bit. When it comes to most Bowls, they've been dead for years...some for decades. Many of these Bowl games were dead way before the transfer portal and the NIL became a thing. The 12-team playoff has been needed for years. And personally I think we need a playoff for the 13-28 teams. The best of the rest kind of tournament. Sort of an NIT like in men's basketball. Make it fun. Keep it interesting. Alabama has been gradually declining the last several seasons. BUT, that really isn't a knock on Alabama. It's basically what Klatt said. Other teams have been getting talent. Bama used to just get every top 50 player they wanted, stick them on a team, and beat the 2nd best team in the country who had half their talent. Now, you have a lot of teams with talent distribution. The transfer portal hasn't really even taken shape yet. It will make it even wilder. College football has more parody now. It's that simple. People trying to compare any team to some of the older elite Bama teams is just silly. None of the current teams could play with those teams. They had like a dozen first rounders on those teams. It was stupid.

    • @jjohnson1667
      @jjohnson1667 5 місяців тому +1

      I would disagree to a small extent. Bama has lost a lot of recruits to UGA which had the most first rounders ever in history just 2 seasons ago and produced some recent dominant teams, not to mention both just finished with the #1 & 2 classes. UGA’s only 2 losses in 2 years is Bama. So while it’s true that it’s not just bama the SEC in general has had very dominant teams the last 6 years. Next year with Texas and Oklahoma joining it’ll look a lot like it did this year just with more SEC teams in it.

    These games should have been on TV. Like Football playoffs and Super Bowl very disappointed.

    I agree with most of what you both said sbout this era of college football. I just wish you also talked about the opt-outs.

    Michigan should power run. Keep Penix in the bench

    I’m a huge NFL fan and I only really watch the college football playoffs but, with this playoff expansion I will definitely watch more college ball. Tbf I never did get the 4 playoff team thing.

    They start off blathering so much over Sark and losing Texas play rather than giving kudos to Dawgs D and Penix shredding the secondary. Priorities..😮

    People not on this interview have said “this isn’t a very talented Bama team”.
    BS. Player for player this is the most talented group of players in the country based on their recruiting rankings.
    But Michigan had the more complete team. So satisfying seeing player development outplay better recruits.

      That has to be true- what if Harbaugh had the 5stars of Ohio State, Bama, or Georgia- he would never lose

      @@JMichael-xc7uu Harbaugh is one of the only top college football coaches that actually had success in the NFL too, showing that he knows how to win games against teams without a major talent advantage. If he could recruit like the other top coaches do, he absolutely would be unstoppable.
