    Love the variety of content you put out. Chris was a monster out there but you played some really solid shots too. Have you been playing with the Azul for a while? I've always wondered how you and the other major reviewers must constantly have to adjust to different paddles. Like I wonder how even more dialed players would be if they just stuck with one paddle and just continued to hone other areas of their game.

    You played really well! Is that the Thrive Threat paddle? It seems to hit fairly hard with good spin. I recently watched the group video with the 5 or 6 of you guys saying what paddle you would use at a tournament. You made an interesting choice that made me think about myself. I've been playing for 2 years and am rated between a 3.5 and 4.0. I used to mostly play with control paddles, but the last 3-6 months I started trying more Power paddles because I get a faster serve and put aways. Also some of the new ones I get much better spin on my serves and drives. But yes, some of them are harder to control or to keep the ball in. Over the 2 years I have bought 10 paddles, and keep searching for the best one for me, then selling the one's I don't like as well. Currently my favorites are the Ronbus Pulsar FX R2, the MOD TA 15, and the Paddletek Bantam TKO 14.3. I am doing a 30 trial of the Pickleball Apes Pulse S, and have tried a friends Ronbus Ripple. I went crazy with the amount of spin I can get! But when you mentioned you decided to back off the power paddles and you would use a Thrive Threat you made me curious. Maybe I should use a paddle like that until I upgrade my skills so I can control the ball better, dink more confidently and become a Reset machine. Hit less balls out and hit one more shot until they make the error. Are you really liking the Threat? Maybe I should return the Pulse and not get the Ripple, and store my MOD until later. What do you think? PS- I took a 2 day intensive from Jordan Briones and he says I should bring a good control paddle to his clinic, but he showed me how to put more topspin on my serves and wow, with the MOD I was serving great. But I do need to get better. Hope to hear from you real soon before I make another bad purchase!!

    Aside from making a lot more unforced errors than Chris, I'd say you could definitely improve in the area of anticipation. He seemed to catch you flat-footed at times, and you didn't move until after he hit his shot. (As opposed to reading the paddle angle early and making a move just before or as he's hitting his shot.) Also, you did better when you didn't rush the net every time after returning. At his caliber, you're basically a sitting duck at the net unless you can read the ball well and, you know, ANTICIPATE. Anyway, cheers from Charlottesville! And keep up the good work!!

  • @Willcortespr

    Really good work a difference of around 1 pt is crazy against a pro and one that comes from tennis single even more. His ground strokes were just super strong and precise. That said it's just hard to play trying to get to the kitchen when he's just peppering you with passing shot after passing shot his topspin there was like a cheat code 😂

    Chris is so skilled. His ceiling is as high as anyone in singles. I'm wondering if the special sauce is his paddle. Nobody else uses it and he simply rips groundies and shapes the ball really well.

    • @HeavyAndLow

      The special sauce is him not a freaking paddle. He'd win with a $50 paddle against us.

    Dude Will, you don't know how you lost? He did one basic concept. Think about it, every point you actually won, what did you actually do? You didn't go to the net right away. You hesitated and played from the back of the baseline. You stayed back played some rallies behind the baseline and Haworth didn't know what shot to choose. Pickleball is all about shot selection. And then you went away from it. Being present and think "I just won 3 points doing X concept. I should keep doing this!" Everytime you went to the net, he just plugged the ball wherever you were not into any opposite gap. If you ran and covered majority right, he shot his shot to the left. If you came from the left running center, he shot to the right. Every return you hit to him you hit directly at him so he didn't need to move at all. So he can pick the shot placement easily. Why didn't you try to hit your return into a corner as your first shot? And what he did to you was total opposite, the return to you he just picked a corner, maybe backhand or even forehand doesn't matter, he just wanted you spread and uncomfortable. And made you run to that corner then when he came in, it put more pressure on you and you couldn't choose sides as easily as he could because his first shot return went definitively to one corner. Yours went directly to him so he had plenty of time and didn't have to hit a shot on the run. I thought you played tennis man. If he does this 3 times, you should automatically pinpoint what's going on and counter his strategy. You aren't picking up on patterns. This isn't a game of hitting a plastic ball, it's a game of court IQ. When you hit your shot on the right side at him, he hit his next shot to you opposite to your left. So every time you had to hit a counter shot on the move or on the stretch. 02:08 you hit a return easily to him so he can load up. You are on the right deuce court hit your shot come in and he his ad court to the left. Don't come in if you are spread wide. Only come in when you're more centered in the court and you have him moving to one side. Also try to fake him out by guessing a side when he tries a passing shot, that he might go on just to mess with his mind that you might try to poach a passing shot. That would disrupt his passing shot for the future if he has that in the back of his mind.
    If you try this against him, you still won't beat him. But you can get a lot more points off of him and work your way to being more competitive against a player like this.

    • @PTL4179
      @PTL4179 4 місяці тому

      It’s very true that Will didn’t put any pressure on to CH which is the last major huddle for any good player. Court IQ makes different at the top levels.

  • @markcrapeau4748
    @markcrapeau4748 4 місяці тому +1

    Easier said than done but if you don't return the ball deep and make him move you are going to be passed. He is mostly coming in or setting with his feet set and pros are just too good for that.

  • @peteherrera1502
    @peteherrera1502 4 місяці тому

    There is nothing you could have done to beat him. His placement and control of the ball were just to good. also your returns, when they went over were never really a threat to him. You also need to play with a power paddle like the elongated gearbox pro power; as your pickleball paddle seems like it has no power on your returns. if you play him again. I would suggest working your way up to the kitchen line rather than running up to the kitchen line, especially when someone like him has such good control of their shots.

  • @robertwray6004
    @robertwray6004 4 місяці тому

    PS: Lastly, he hits the ball lower and with more pace, which is more difficult to deal with than the higher slower balls you hit. My 2 cents.

    Stick to making pickleball content, Will. Unfortunately, nature did not give you a pickleball body much beyond 5.0. The long armed cats can cover sooo much territory and hit the ball a ton. Hey, you can still put a lickin' on ChrisO though, right?
