A video of 4 minutes that blows away what has been done in five years by R&B, modern rap and pop performers altogether. This is MUSIC All hail ENSLAVED, cheers from Morocco
Enslaved's entire Discography is comprised of works of art, pure black metal genius. Some are just more "approachable" than others, and there is nothing wrong with that, this song has over a million views, more than any other Enslaved track on youtube, and I'm sure peaked the interest of many new fans. I myself first picked up Mardraum when I was 12 years old, and since then have not hesitated in proclaiming these guys to be my favorite band of all time.
I like how the video and music gives a cold feeling - feels like being in the Norwegian mountains. Not many bands can create that atmosphere. 3.50 is mighty. And I love the disillusioned Galder-copy running around in a raindeer-coat.
this has black metal influence big time regardless its not black metal i call it bad ass metal do you agree rock on friends if you do not like his voice keep moving wankers
Even Immortal said at the beginning they were not Black Metal, because they're not Satanic. They called their music "Holocaust Metal". Several Black Metal musicians such as Euronymous, and bands like Marduk didn't consider Immortal Black metal, because a lot of black metal artist feel to be black metal, than you have to be satanic.
The band has always argued that they are not Black Metal, but prefer to be called Extreme metal, or viking metal. Although Black Metal was a major influence for the band.
Two years late. But better late than never. There's always been a lot of discussion regarding the true definition of black metal. The vast majority stick with it being any metal music that handles satanic lyrics; that's the most widely accepted definition. Under lyrical meaning, neither Immortal, nor Enslaved are Black Metal; they do not get into satanism. But lyrics are not the only way of defining a genre. Musically speaking, any metal with low production quality and screaming (voice style, not as a derogatory term) vocals can be easily put within the Black Metal scope. Under this definition, both Immortal and early-to-mid Enslaved (up to Mardraum) are Black Metal. It all summarizes to what form of genre definition you're looking for. Like Grutle stated in a handful of interviews, Enslaved hates genres; they make good music. For them there's only good music and bad music. And according to their definition of good music, it all rounds up to the essence of the song. This can bee seen in albums like Ruun and Isa, in which the Jazz influences are more than obvious, it's music; good music. Remember Black Metal spawned from Heavy Metal, and Metal from Hard Rock, and Rock from Blues, and you can go all the way back to Beethoven; it's all an ever-evolving universe. I stand with Grutle; genres are a commercial concept, maybe for administrative purposes they're useful, but they tend to tear apart communities. We should just forget about that, and focus on the music.
Always thought Enslaved had that 70's prog feel mixed into their Black Metal sound. They've definitely stayed true to themselves.I really like their latest opus 'Ethica Odin' as well. Go Norway! BM 4-Life!
GOD THIS IS GOOD! proves that you do not need a million notes to be brutal, it's really catchy and i could listen to it when i'm too tired of death metal. it's actually soothing in a weird way...
I never get tired of Enslaved's sound or their videos. I could do without the angry baldie but the way Enslaved is shot in the snow is intriguing and I love it, their so damn original. Hailz!!!
This is why these guys are freakin awesome! They play Gibsons and Rickenbacker guitars and basses! You don't need a BC Rick or an ESP for death/black metal! Keep rocking on \m/
I think the absence of double bass gives an even stronger effect when they kick in at 3:50. And I think this songs proves that you don't need to do double bass at 200 BPM to sound awesome!
oh, and by the way, i can reach that high of a scream with the False Chord Technique. this is most likely what he's doing. i'd have to listen to more of their music to be sure.
This is my favorite Black Metal band by far. I like Immortal, I like Mayhem (and I hope to see them in April) and I like Burzum. But this is my favorite.
Saw them in Hollywood, cant wait till the next time they tour (next year i hope) they were so fucking awesome... i only wish i could see them live all the time, and i got to meet them outside the venue and in a record shop
This band is the shit. I started out listening to music like Iron Maiden and then got into the heavier stuff like black, death, thrash, and then the more progressive stuff like Enslaved for example. Lately its been a lot of non metal like jazz, fusion, and classical. I always come back to this though. Enslaved has such a unique atmosphere and originality.
it seems that norwegian bands lik eto play in snow :) that is propably the main reason taht they come so rarely to the southern states (like the Balkan area) we miss you guys come soon to slovenia!!! greetings to all headbangers :)

check out some Kendrick Lamar videos. They are incredible
One of my top songs of all time! The Crescendo of metal leading into the second half is magnificent. \m/ Enslaved!!

this is the first song I have heard by this band....I kind of like it so I'm probably going to have to listen to more of them.
0:42 cracks me up every time..
;))))
What's funny about it?
I like how the video and music gives a cold feeling - feels like being in the Norwegian mountains. Not many bands can create that atmosphere. 3.50 is mighty.

this song is brilliant
The last part of this song is the beauty itself!
Nicest guys ever
Indeed:-)
I Think These Guys Are Like the One Of The Best Viking/Black Metal Bands Man!!!!
Great song...3:00 Did they just channel their inner Pink Floyd?
And this channeling has been going on in their latest albums since then;-)
King Crimson or Opeth
They were the Pink Floyd of metal when they still had Herbrand Larsen. So disappointed he left the band. He was like their secret weapon.
This band come to my country 7 years ago, although I'm not a black metal fan,I like this song from them
Mann I need a better quality of this Video HD PLEASE
Excellent riffs!!! The guitars sound great!!!
Phoda
Muito foda mesmo, metal de primeira!!! Bjs linda!
Obrigada para voce também.
I feel that this song is more than a mix of Atmospheric Black Metal and Viking Metal, than pure Viking Metal
this has black metal influence big time regardless its not black metal i call it bad ass metal do you agree rock on friends if you do not like his voice keep moving wankers
ok thx for calling me dumb ass but you need to learn you re music

i like it - pretty clear, concise, and focused.
nice to see some gibson guitars.
just got back from norway - you can smell the metal on the wind.
This aint death metal - progressive black metal
this aint progressive black metal. It's Viking metal. Even Enslaved has always said they're NOT black metal.
They're just metal. Metal as fuck.
can't wait to see them Live in London 30.04.2010 yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaah !!!!
not bad... video sucks :)
Viking metal is just what deserves its own genre!!!
You'll love them! I saw them a few years ago with Opeth, best show I've ever been. Have fun.
Very excited I get to see them at Wacken :)
I hope i can meet Ice Dale for he is one of my favorite guitarists!
awesome song, enslaved sure is some of the best and most unique BM bands we have here in Norway.
one of the greatest tracks ive found these years
hail to Enslaved
Herbrand Larsen great voice, i wish to hear more from him
Listen to the Riitiir and In Times albums, his vocals are featured a lot on both
New Dawn and Vertebrae have some of my favorite Herbrand sections. I could listen to a whole album of that.
@@NateLinehan666 Absolutely! Me too!
Great Sound, Awesome Band!
that guitar riff is infectious, love it
Always thought Enslaved had that 70's prog feel mixed into their Black Metal sound.

From a artistic point of view, I like the fact that they are playing on the snow. Gives it a whole Northern feeling. Also, they make good music.

Just saw them live in Delhi, India for the second time. Awesome as always
I forgot how much I loved this song. A whole lot of epic in 4 and a half minutes :)
It must've been so cold on that day for Dale not to be shirttless XD Awesome band, they caught me with this video back when I was discovering metal s2
Enslaved is one of the sickest bands around, also one of the only traditional bands keeping the true feel of metal!
I love this. Black/Viking Metal is awesome! :D

That opening riff, I was expecting King Diamond , sounds like an early 80s Mercyful Fate riff. Good stuff

Saw them in Hollywood, cant wait till the next time they tour (next year i hope) they were so fucking awesome... i only wish i could see them live all the time, and i got to meet them outside the venue and in a record shop

The bald guy swinging with the axe is just badass!

Badass!
It is harsh, not something most people like. These guys are very impressive live and this guy's shrieking howl is a sight to behold.
it seems that norwegian bands lik eto play in snow :) that is propably the main reason taht they come so rarely to the southern states (like the Balkan area) we miss you guys come soon to slovenia!!! greetings to all headbangers :)
