Great video as always. That ceiling strobe looks nice, but I don't think it's needed in that congested spot. Maybe that can be used in a bathroom you can access? I don't know but your install is fire anyway.

I believe a 12V car battery should be around 13-13.5 volts fully charged. 16 is much too high. And yeah old batteries can have problems.. As for the generators long crank time, gas engines don't like sitting for a while. (fair warning don't quote me on any of this info. I may be wrong.) Awesome that you hit the main btw. Also, do you ever lock the garage breaker panel? (the only breaker panel with a lock) Last thing. Those LF's in the house are LOUD
I was thinkng you should do some type of alert light on the generator building that would signal that something went wrong like a light pattern that would indicate a specific failure like over heating, dead battery low fuel and things like that I know you’d probably get an alert on your phone but let’s say it was dead and it was to bad of a storm to go out and check so that way you could look out your window and diagnose the problem with out having to go outside and you could maybe run it off a ups or a 12v battery that would stay charged off of the battery tender for the generator battery idk just a thought I had love the vids btw
Perhaps the fire alarm in the garage can also monitor for other issues in the generator. Your current setup is already monitoring for temps so why not also supervise the fuel and start battery voltage? Probably going to mean more equipment and materials but is possibly a do-able project I think.
What charger are you using so you can get one that is 12v or adjust the Voltage Charger to 12v so this won't happen again. and What is the Security Light on the FACP used for
If yall have auto zones up there in Canada you mighta have been able to get that battery cheaper cuz they stock little batteries like that and they are usually reasonably priced
Hey Nick, I got an idea. I just don't know if it would work, but you should have a weekly timer setup that automatically runs the generator for a couple of minutes once a week.
the way to fix the charging issue is to get rid of the trickle charger and just run it for 15 mins or so a month and it will keep the battery charged properly i got rid of my stand by charger for the same reason as your had
Hey man I have a generator as well and all u have to do is hook up a small cheap solar panel to ur starter battery on the gen. With it only charging during the day and it's not always putting out max power cause it's solar is safer. I've had it hooked to my battery for. 4 years now and it always starts up.
@@nics-systems-electric Ok, thanks for responding. I am currently taking a "Residential Wiring" class and wanted to get an idea of what tool brands I should look into.
The garage panel does have a main disconnect so not main lug only. I'd have to take a look in the code book which I don't have on me right now. I want to say it's not required to have a main disconnect but could be wrong I'll have to look into it as I'm curious now too lol.

your testing monthly is a bit over kill the systems you have should only need once a year like mine has :) me thinks you like to play with yours toys so to speak:)
Not quite that is the law here. Initiation of the alarm function and operation of notification devices is required to be tested monthly. Annually I do a full test where I check every initiating device and fault recognition etc.
Nice monthly test Nic😊, love the systems 😍, and like the new led strobe you added 😄
Great Video! Had me scared for a sec with the generator issue. Also the price tsg on that little battery was crazy.
Its weird the new L series LED is starting to grow on me. Keep up the great work love your system.

I wonder if the sync on the house system would work if you used Wheelock sounder/strobes in the bedrooms.
If it was set to that sync protocol but all the devices would have to match

Hey Nick, I got an idea. I just don't know if it would work, but you should have a weekly timer setup that automatically runs the generator for a couple of minutes once a week.
I believe it's something that the controller can do however, I prefer to supervise it and be able to notice something if it's not going right.

The battery would likely be drained from running the generator controller 24/7. The charger should not charge over it's high cut off voltage.
The generator charger probably overloaded the battery resulting in a short circuit to the contacts I guess, bricking the battery
Nice!
For Decembers test for the house, you should do the smoke detector in the panel room
can you do the attic heat detector since u don't do it in the summer because of hot days, it now fall/winter now.
As always great video
I'm thinking I'll just wait until the annual test in January
