That was brilliant when The Temptations bass voice joined in with The Four Tops and Levi said "shut up, Melvin" lol
They all joined in together at the end, singing a Jackie Wilson song. May he rest in peace.
Many of those guys have since passed on.
Amen and amen.
Levi Stubbs and Jackie Wilson we're cousins
Classic😊
These guys used to tour together and were good friends they were good but you should hear them in their prime!
I believe Linda Christensen is referring to The Four Tops and The Temptations.
I was thinking the same about these groups. 20 or 30 years after they had their big hit songs, this TV Special must have been made.
When did this special happen, btw? In the 80's?
I'm thinking not all the original Drifters and Cadillacs were there.
Most of the Motown groups and singers were lifelong friends Grew up in the north end of Detroit, many lived on the same block and surrounding blocks. They also toured together with the revival shows. I remember seeing one at the Long Island Colosseum in the late 70’s.
I love 'em ALL; they're all GREAT! You tickle me, how you PERKED UP, when your boys, The Temptations were coming out. Lol... You are ALWAYS such "a pleasure/joy" to watch reacting to the songs us baby boomers grew up on. It NEVER gets old, watching you...
You 're so right! He's adorable
Four Tops all the way!! I would gladly listen to Levi Stubbs sing the phone book.
kwanshiyin I agree! Too bad he died end of 2019, the last one anhydrous sounding just as good
DaddyBog next week
@@cocod594 Levi died in 2008
Agree 💯
As a child of the 60s, all I can say is: CHILLS!!!! What a treat! Back in the day, no one could touch the Temptations but for this performance I am going to give it to the Four Tops!
This was the best review I have ever seen from Jay-V or from any reviewer! I laughed and I cried as I watched. I don't know how Jay found this special video but it was fantastic. It was beautiful.
This video was from PBS' 'My Music'...a series of soul performances that was staged in Pittsburgh back starting in the nineties...ua-cam.com/video/GLe5MYcuKoo/v-deo.html
This is when they were old. Some of the voices had gone. Listen to these songs when they were in their prime. Under the boardwalk is a so g hall if fame winner.
Damn dude you love Kiss and Say Goodbye much as I do😄
And yes you gots to do the Drifters Under The Boardwalk!
There was so much talent on that stage its amazing the building didnt collapse!
This is superb. What a combo!! 💖💖💖💖
The finale was the best all those voices good good memories
What a great finish to Motown Monday.
I love the Manhattans. I got to see them in concert and each one of them signed a photo of them and gave it to me❣
I will tell you who the winner was....everybody sitting in that audience and watching on TV!
Yes yes yes! One of the best shows ever.
What a fantastic way to end Motown Monday. I LOVED this so much. I wish it could have been longer. Thank you!😚
This was AWESOME. I miss the days of the old Circle Star in San Carlos, CA when you'd get five groups for the show. Saw so many of these groups from that era. *happy sigh*
Oh, yeah, you gotta check out the Drifters. “Up on the Roof” is a great one of theirs.
Spanish Harlem is my all time fave of the Drifters!
@@ABertagurl Spanish Harlem is BEN E.KING solo, after He left the group to go it alone. An easy mistake to make,as He was originally the Drifters lead Singer, for Me,when they were at their best.
One of my favorites
@@soulfella1 i agree
Ben e king
Manhattans threw down the challenge🔥great 1st song.
It's called, Entertainment! They ALL have it!
"They often call me Speed-o, but my real name is Mr. Earl". RIP Ben E. King who sang "This Magic Moment". I must have gone to see 10 Murray The K shows when I was young, which toward the end were mainly Motown Revue's. Each show had about 15 acts and at the end all would come onstage and perform together, just like this. The days man.
Ah-bay! Kumma-zowa-zowa. Deazo yeazou speazezk Meusurray? (This meeting of the Swingin' Soiree is now in session!)
Absolutely loved your reaction to this good, good music!!!❤ I have to go with Levi and the Four Tops - Levi is my man!!! Nice ending with Jackie Wilson song!! That was fun!!! Thanks!!!
This was AMAZING, Bro! The perfect way to cap of Motown Mondays! I think I was pulling for The Four Tops. But they were all great! I love things like this. As you said, music unifies people and brings them together. That can surely be seen to be true in this awesome video. GREAT reaction!
That wasn't David Ruffin. That was Ollie Ali singing lead with the Temptations.
I have suggested this song before but "I Only Have Eyes For You" by The Flamingo's is probably one of the most hauntingly beautiful and ethereal love songs of all time honestly. Idk if I have anyone to back me up but it's great. Highly suggest it.
I agree!
This was a cool variety of GREAT music. I'm looking forward to you reacting to their songs when they were in their primes.
The Drifters has so many different configurations over the years--singers came and went.
That song by the Manhattans i can still remember my mama playing it over and over.
Damn! This was awesome! I was dancin’ in my chair(dog under my feet sleeping). You can see how much they were having. Love the comedy. I loved them all but have a soft spot for the Four Tops so if made to choose, that would be my pick.
Love the Jackie Wilson “ Higher and Higher” song at the end.🥰
First time seeing this. When Motown 1st started touring they had the "Motown Review" Bus. I saw the bus in Boston back in 62. The performers got to know each other real well. Don't forget Mary Wells.
That was when music was great. Love all Motown
Amazing that I found myself singing all the words!!
Such talent, so much wholesome fun, so many hits. Why don't we have groups like this anymore?
You love this just like I do!!! Love your reaction. The talent is awesome !!
That was not David Ruffin singing lead with the Temptations on there. That was the late great Ali-Ollie Woodson!
Loved Ollie Woodson. Had the uncanny ability to sing with a soulful smokey sound like Ruffin or hard and rough like Edwards.
These made for tv performances are dang near perfect. This is such a treat!! Imagine the energy at that place! Do you have any details such as the date and location? Was it a theater? Studio? Another great Reaction, JV! Good choice, thank you!!
Stacy Olson looks like the Apollo Theater
1985 at the Apollo Theatre.
Four Tops. But it's a close one. They are all fantastic.
Temps and four tops
Always loved the dance moves as much as the music, enjoy...they just don't do this anymore. I love how they dance and sing to each other's music, songs not nearly long enough. This was fun!
Tops and Tempts were playing around. they did that for years with battles on tv, concerts, and records. PS that last song by the Temptations was "I'm Losing You" good song
How amazing! I loved it! Thanks for bringing this to us! They're all winners :D
Wow great One to end it on thanks Peace ✌🏻
I saw the temptations and the four tops live and i still remember þhose concerts like yesterday. They were the best concerts ive been to. The crowd were singing along with every song. The dances were amazing
What fantastic memories.
Two other great male groups, The Spinners -- "It's Ashame" and Enchantment, "Gloria." Both groups are something special.
Great stuff! Thanks for posting J.
To say this brings back memories gets strange looks from folks... I'm sneaking up on 50 but grew up listening to 50/60s music because of my Dad and always enjoyed it. Been to see many revival shows to see so many great bands, and to hear those original members who are still around do their classics so effortlessly, and have a great time doing it... always a great night.
It also feels good to have people who grew up during this era come up and ask if someone gave my wife and I tickets or if we knew the type of show it was, which then turns into all sorts of great conversation with the nicest people about the bands and music in general. (I'll admit... it also feels good to be considered a "youngster" for a change!).
Keep these coming! It does a heart good to see what I'll call the younger generation appreciate and enjoy the oldies.
This was fun lol
U need the Drifters!
And not sure how many original members. They go wayyyyy back. Listen to the original versions!!
Also the Platters (My Prayer)
Better sing off between the Temps n 4 Tops at Motown 20
The Drifters, or what is left of them are still preforming, saw them in Feb, still sound great,, I would suggest playing more of all these groups, I don't think there is a bad song between the 5 of them
OMG!!! Thank you so much for introducing me to this video. I have never seen this before, it was amazing!!!!
This was one of the best band battles of all time 🥰
This was awesome great ending to Motown Mondays I think they were all brilliant 👏👏👏
They are all really really talented Love love them
JV, This should definitely have more views. What a rare find! THANKS
These are so much amazing groups .. I mean the harmony and the voices the songs .. I have watched this video countless times .. I smiled throughout with you lol .. just fantastic . Real music 😁
What you're watching tonight was the foundation of my very yong life. I was really lucky to have been raised hearing Motown.
They all are STARS🌟💫✨
I do believe you felt this deep in your soul. Why oh why can't there be talent like this these days. Can't get enough of The Temptations, The Manhattans and The Four Tops!
My mother wss a teen wen these songs were out and. I Lisened to these greats with my mommy i loved it im smiling ear to ear with memories flooding my mind. My momma. heaven now. I feel happy happy happy right now. These are truely my all time favorites. They always put my mom and i always had so much fun listening and dancing to these songs.💚💙💛💗🌿🌺🍃🐦🌿🌺🍃🐦🌿🌺🍃🐦💚💙💛💗🎶
Temptations were most popular and had great hits, but the Four Tops were equally good. It’s a toss up
There are so so so many great R&B Soul groups from the 50's, 60's and 70's
All fantastic music
Nice that they showed respect to Jackie Wilson singing Higher and Higher. Another fantastic Detroit talent. RIP.
I wonder if they have the whole Motown 25 on here That be great
they do....
I love this video! It's one of my all-time favs! This was REAL, QUALITY music! These bands were all unique and SO talented!
It is very hard for me to choose just one group here because I will always love the number the Manhattens performed, and the Temptations are always PRIMO, but I will ALWAYS LOVE the Four Tops! They were the best EVER! Thanks for posting this!
I love them all to distraction, but the Four Tops just brought so much energy!
This was from a 1985 TV Special called Motown Returns to The Apollo to celebrate the reopening of The Apollo Theater. Every one of these guys made their bones in that theater. The Cadillacs were a major influence on The Temptations (most notably Otis Williams). Ben E. King was in The Drifters before he got fired and of course would co write Stand By Me, then The Manhattans had Kiss & Say Goodbye, and The Temptations & Four Tops are Music Royalty.
Its all great fun time youhave to be inthe best mood after this dancing all around the room like me 💋💋💋💋💋
That was awesome! I can't choose, they are all winners!!!
I sure relate to this song , lets kiss and say goodbye ! Those were the days so much fun and dancing the night away with this unforgettable fantastic songs .
i love that i lived through this wonderful time in music the best 60s and 70s
✨✨The Drifters: Kissing in the backseat of the movies ✨✨my all time favourite
The Cadillacs had an older style, as you can hear they are doing a bit of Doo Wop. The Drifters are singing their best songs here. I think the Temptations discography goes deeper than all of them put together. Ali-Ollie Woodson was a good lead singer for them, but my favorite was David Ruffion, and I absolutely loved Dennis Edmonds (who just passed a couple years ago). The heart was of course Otis Williams, the guy that kept them together.. Temptations turned into a kind of evolving, revolving group. Members coming and going and to this day there is at least one version of them still going (briefly there was a "The Temptations Revue". My opinion though, after Otis died, the group should have been re-branded, like "Reflection of Temptations" or something signifying an ongoing Temptations cover band.
Otis Williams is still alive and well.
@@lindasalter1017 I was just about to say the same thing Otis Williams is still living and performing with The Temptations.
I was in my 20's I can't separate them both groups bring back many memories many moons ago those were great times.
I remember this Apollo special the whole show was absolutely amazing!
My favorite music right here. I am so blessed to have seen 3 of these groups
I had the pleasure of playing behind these drifters in Detroit. Great performers
I think they are all great.. I remember all of their songs.. that era was the best music so much better than the music these days loved it
Such a great video man, I needed to see this right here haha
I'm a white woman in my 60's...born and raised in Detroit...MOTOWN CITY... grew up with this music. My dad was a manager of a local band way back in the day...and Stevie Wonder was a 12 year old boy back then....Motown was located in a small house in a neighborhood st...Great memories...There is no sound like MOTOWN!
I’m glad I didn’t have to be a judge on this .I gotta say the Manhattans killed it though!
It's made my day just seeing your beautiful smile while watching these greats!!!
I love this video! The Temptations had a lot of personnel changes. David Ruffin was gone by then. The lead singer here was Ollie Woodson. May they both R.I.P.
✨Wowi made it! ✨ what a Show!🔥🔥🔥❤️💕
Hey Javaughn! Can we get back to at least one more CCR- you just gotta hear them doing “heard it through the grapevine.” VERY funky!! ❤️💛☮️💟✌️
Cadillacs and Drifters were 50's groups
@@BertSmithLondon I thought The Drifters were a little creaky this time. I don't think any of the original members were in that performance.
That was fabulous... All I can say is, and I’ve said it before, I just love how your eyes water when you are so excited by what you hear! 😊
I enjoy every song of the manhattans .these group is my favo all the time .
Pure joy to listen to.
So cute the way you started bouncing around at the beginning of the Temptations. Music has a way of doing that to us. ☺️
LIKE SISTER AND BROTHER my fave Drifters song .They were one of the longest performing groups with different lead singers
This wonderful music only comes once in a life time..🎶🕺🎵 plus we won us the fans we won..
Four tops my fav brilliant reaction thank you
Love all these guys but it’s definitely a toss up between Temptations and Four Tops. Love this!! 👍
Love this battle of the groups, had never seen that actual footage of the Manhattans before. Love Love Love The Drifters are brilliant as well. My all time favorites are the Temptations always and forever. You should check out the Neville Brothers. That clip is just a Motown explosion of energy, thanks so much for sharing
All were great! You must listen to the 4 Tops Still Water Runs Deep!
Perfect Motown Monday video!! Great video!!!!! Awesome music
This video has been putting me in a good mood for years now.
Entertainment at it’s FINEST. All these groups are amazing💯💯
Love this 4 Tops and Temptations always were competing lol
In my opinion, The Four Tops win the challenge, Levi's main voice is dynamic. The Temptations, a very close hairline second, but all the groups were great though!
Loved this!! I lean more towards The Four Tops but they are all great groups! But Levi has always been my favorite!
Just watching & listening to the Temps & the Tops together is super cool.
