    The most extensive was adapting the Carter blade guides to fit this saw. I will detail that in this video. That is the longest portion of this video.
    I will make a separate UA-cam segment on the Carter blade guide modifications, and on some other segments. Subscribe so you can see that when I produce it. This turned out to be a long video.

    I wish you were my neighbor. I think we could talk shop for hours. I just bought this saw at Lowes on clearance for $341. It was a display model.

    I just bought a floor model for 250 plus blade and tax 276.00
    I need the safety button for switch and the plastic hold circle on table..I'll have to look at manual to see what else shoppers have helped themselves to at Lowes.
    Thanks very much for this great video

    WOW Gary that was a great video. I just found your channel when researching info on the Porter Cable 14" band saw. I wasn't sure if I should buy this saw but after watching this I will buy one tomorrow, and make these mods. I am also a new subscriber.

    Thanks for the great info. I am shopping for a band saw and seriously considering the 14" Porter Cable, because of the low cost. This video helps a lot with deciding on buying the Porter Cable and doing some upgrades or buying another brand like the Grizzly GO555, that comes with most of the upgrades you have outlined.

    Loved the video, thank you. I just picked up this very same bandsaw from Facebook marketplace for $160 and it already had a Kreg rip fence upgrade. It's nice to see that you were able to find a Carter blade guide kit that will work because I looked and was sad to see no Porter Cable listed. I may have to do this very same upgrade.

    Thanks for doing the video. Let me ask, does your saw have any perceptible wheel movement from side to side ? My top wheel is not very true. I have had my saw about a week, cannot really get anything to track straight.

      Hi Matt. Thanks. I have not experienced any problem with that. It's been a great bandsaw for me. I would think something is loose or not right. See if you can tighten it up. Mine is pretty solid. Perhaps contact Porter*Cable and see what they may suggest. You can probably Google them online. I think the manual also gives a ph# to call. Good luck!

    I was wondering which Carter bearings would fit this saw. Thanks for the info! chock full of information! I'm hoping to pick one up (and will order the riser block from PC)

    With all the upgrads and mods, how does it compare to Grizzly G0555LA35, which is on sale for $597+$99 shipping?
    Thanks.

      Thank you! I'm not familiar with the Grizzly products as I don't own any. You would need to compare them side by side for features and costs of modifications. It may be close.

    Did you make any improvements or adjustments to the dust collection?

    • @johnstownparcclub7875
      @johnstownparcclub7875 2 роки тому

      Thank you! Apart from the port that is below the table, all I have done is to connect my 2 stage 2-1/2 inch shop vac to that. That seems to do what I need. I don't always use the band saw daily so I don't have a lot of need. I try to capture dust at the source and with a general shop air filter from Rikon. See my video on that one. Were you aware before purchasing the band saw guides that modifications would be needed?Also how can you tell if the factory installed tire is polyurethane? I have the same model about 5 years old. Very nice job.

    • @GaryLundgrenCrafts
      @GaryLundgrenCrafts  5 років тому

      Thank you! I didn't know that I wanted the modifications to the band saw until after some time and use, and seeing what upgrades were available. As best as I can tell, the factory tires on it are polyurethane. They look it and have performed well. The manual doesn't seem to say.

      @@GaryLundgrenCrafts Sorry, I didn't phrase my question clearly. I want to know if you knew that modifying the lower bearing mounting bracket from Carter was going to be necessary. Did you feel the instructions were clear. It seemed for the cost of the product you had to do a bit of fiddling in order to get the lower bracket in place. I noticed on their website they don't list the porter cable brand. I suppose the PC is a clone of the rigid and Delta.

    • @GaryLundgrenCrafts
      @GaryLundgrenCrafts  5 років тому

      I didn't know I would need to make the modification for the lower bearing set until I got into it. I could have stopped there and returned the kit and got a refund. But, I wanted to make it work and with my experience in machining and mechanics it did not seem a difficult task for me. The Jet guides were the closest fit for the Porter*Cable. Carter and their engineers were also a great help to me.
