Snow-White, also known as Betty Boop in Snow-White, is a film in the Betty Boop series from Max Fleischer's Fleischer Studios directed in 1933. Dave Fleischer was credited as director, although virtually all the animation was done by Roland Crandall. Crandall received the opportunity to make Snow-White on his own as a reward for his several years of devotion to the Fleischer studio, and the resulting film is considered both his masterwork and an important milestone of The Golden Age of American animation. Snow-White took Crandall six months to complete.

Every so often, UPA (the studio responsible for the original Mr. Magoo) would whip out a heaping dose of macabre, especially in stand-alone shorts. The best offhand example would be their 1953 adaptation of "The Tell-Tale Heart", which for an 8-minute cartoon steers impressively deep into the psychological horror. It's worth a review.

Really liking these episodes of Dark Toons! They've introduced me to so many scary episodes I didn't know about before. If Doug has the chance, I think he should look at Disney's Prince and the Pauper and Mickey's Christmas Carol short films as I always thought that they had some scary scenes and atmosphere that were a little scarier than the usual Disney shorts.

I love this. Whenever I think of a good Halloween cartoon, this and Minnie the Moocher will alaays pop up. The best thing is, since I just watched it again recently after PLAYING Cuphead, I notice exactly how much inspiration they took from it. I knew that most of their influence came from Fleischer, but I mean, they took the backgrounds of this specific short and just ran with it for Inkwell Hell. I love the backgrounds in all the Inkwell Hell stages, so after paying closer attention to this one, I love this short more now. I really want to see more out of Betty Boop, because I really don't know where to find compilations of shorts, and I've pretty much seen all the ones that are on UA-cam. Popeye would also be nice to see more of. I used to just sort of respect Fleischer for what it did, but lately after watching a lot more of these shorts, I realize that I actually do enjoy the shorts. I'll also admit that I've sort of been noticing the opposite for Disney. I ama massive Disney fan, but after watching a lot of the earlier shorts that are mainly just Mickey or Silly Symphonies, I kind of don't enjoy them as much as I respect their history. I wish Paramount would make the Fleischer toons more easily avaibable for streaming so I could further enjoy these great, dark, funny cartoons.

It's not the darkest cartoon out there, but there's a point where this little tug boat wanders away from harbor, and the waves turn dark and start chanting "bad boy" at him. their anthropomorphic vehicle cartoons had just a touch of darkness on them. I remember one about a plane that wanted to be a faster one... only to get hurt and the father having to make the decision on what parts he was going to keep after the surgery. I like Hazbin hotel.... But it's nothing like this. It doesn't go half as hard in its animation. (Not that it doesn't have some really cool character designs. Though Charlie herself is a bit lacklustre, in my opinion.) In terms of pure creativity in character design, I'm apt to go for the amazing world of gumball. They have a consistent style of animation for the main family and just go bonkers with it! Ren and stimpy does it too.

I just looked it up. According to the Betty Boop Wiki: "Betty is aged 13-16 in the original cartoon series from 1932-1934."
16 seems to have been the age of consent during that era, so in that context it sorta makes sense, but it's still really weird to me having been raised by the standards of today. Also, under that same context - why would she sometimes be depicted as YOUNGER than 16? I mean... 13 years old? Really? First off, Betty wouldn't have had NEARLY that kind of body around that age, and secondly WHY WOULD SHE BE SEXUALIZED AT 13?? IT MAKES NO SENSE EVEN IN CONTEXT!!

In all the short bosses you fight at the Craps Table fight before getting to him, the backgrounds have that same beautiful watercolor views into HELL that toons like this have as well. There was a really creepy episode of “Little Audrey” that traumatized me as a kid. Oddly, I can’t remember much about it. I was around 3 or 4... I only remember crying and running terrified away from the living room the first time I saw it. Occasionally my dad, thinking he was so f*cking funny, would play that VHS when I wasn’t expecting it. Just so he and his friends could laugh at my horrified reaction 😒 anyway, if someone else can remember a creepy “Little Audrey” cartoon, maybe they can provide more details.
