  • It's the arcade version of San Francisco Rush 2049 developed and released by Atari in 1999. The 1999 version includes five tracks and a good selection of cars. This is the last game in the Rush series to feature The Rock (not the wrestler) but with a small difference, the start/finish line on the Alcatraz track is in a different location in Rush 2049 than in Rush The Rock. The arcade version features a PIN system where players can enter a PIN number to save progress and try to collect up to 100 coins scattered across each track. These coins when found can unlock new cars and paint jobs.
The San Francisco Rush 2049 arcade system boards used 3DFX graphics. The 3DFX graphics were also used for numerous Midway, Konami, and Atari arcade games like Hydro Thunder, the NFL Blitz series, the Gauntlet games, Vapor TRX, Arctic Thunder, Road Burners, the first two San Francisco Rush games, Offroad Thunder, HyperDrive, CART Fury, NBA Showtime, California Speed, the Silent Scope games, the GTI Club series, Code One Dispatch, the Thrill Drive games, and CarnEvil to name a few.
Midway in 2000 released an upgraded version, Tournament Edition, that fixed bugs and added two new tracks, four cars, and new shortcuts. It also had the ability to connect to an external server, via a T1 network connection, which allowed players to race against others in an online tournament via using the Midway Tournament Network.
Betson Enterprises in 2003 released an upgrade titled San Francisco Rush 2049 Special Edition, which brought back the tracks, cars, and shortcuts from Tournament Edition but removed online play due to Midway Tournament Network being shut down.
While I didn't create a PIN for this video, I did do this playthrough of all five tracks in the 1999 version of San Francisco Rush 2049 which was played and recorded in MAME 0.261 with an Xbox One controller, enjoy!
You can hold the Music button in "Just Play" while selecting a course to view all five tracks.

Playing with the wheel is much more ideal and less frustrating than on the gamepad!

This reminds me of Hot Wheels.
