WHY do I still dislike this concerto? I must be wired differently or something. To put it rather childishly simple: I cannot grab ONTO anything that will help me. Has anyone been through this with THIS or any other piece of music that LATER suddenly made sense to them? Thanks in advance. ♥
Just listen to it 3 times. Worked for me, I definitely did not like it at first either lol but now I love it. Just listen to the passage at 20:02, is that not remarkable piano writing? The first movements I really liked where the 2nd and the 4th, so maybe isolate one of these and listen to it 3 times.
The music was beautiful, but +olla-vogala , but could you re-post another version because, ~4th movement, the music does not advance properly, I don't know if there is a fix for this, or it could just be the computer from which I am viewing. Thank you for your time!!!!

This concerto is odd. It always surpprised me. Prokofiev seems to have lost his sense of concision and architecture for a more patchwork work, in which a trumpet theme plays a cyclic role. He told about that concerto: an astist must always renew oys expression. Of course, Profofiev is here, his sracastic themes, his brutal modulations, but it is a strange Peokofiev. I liten often to that concerto but I am less satisfied than by the others. I am noy disppointed, but a biy disoeiented.
On the contrary: this concerto is as structural and thematically tight as anything he wrote, if not more. It *definitely* takes more listens, which only evidences the depth the work has.
I've read many of Gerard's comments on this site and trust me, he knows what he's talking about even if I don't have to agree with every single thing he says. Gerard, I'm interested what you make of the 4th concerto, the odd one out among the five in several ways. I uploaded what I believe is the best recording of it (Anatoly Vedernikov), you're very welcome to comment on it.
This sounds like a mid-point between Stravinsky, Shostakovich, Debussy and idk, Mosolov's Iron Foundry? Well, I like it! Just what I need this morning!

0:05 is a good place to start.
Some parts of the 5th movement reminded me of Peter Sellers playing a concerto in his movie, "the world of Henry Orient". 😆
if anyones having trouble getting into this concerto, listen to the 4th movement
This is at least as good as a good strawberry-milkshake on a hot summer's-day!
wow five movements
I did not enjoy this score until I Hheard Richter's rendering. I rediscovered it ten, and now I like it as much as the other concertos for piano.

The beginning of the second movement sounds like an off-beat, twisted version of Shostakovich Piano Concerto no. 2.
