- A taster of the work we're doing to enhance the first episode of Blake's 7, 'The Way Back'. Not meant to replace the excellent original in anyway, only as a homage. www.luddite-films.com

With the exception of the Liberator re-design, Excellent. I love the pan over the federation troopers. Very eerie.
7 years and only just watched! Nice video.
With the way Doctor Who is going this wonderful programme needs to be brought back for the 21st century either as a continuation which would be my preference or as reboot with some of the original cast brought back in gest roles.
Having seen what they have done to Dr Who, Star Trek and Star Wars in recent years, I'd rather they leave Blakes 7 alone until TV producers get past the need to push a message and go back to prioritising entertainment.
@@politenessman3901100% - can you imagine B7 with a gay Blake and a female Avon and Villa in a wheelchair etc and the entire story being centred on LGBTQIA+ relationships and the Federation being responsible for climate change etc... no thanks!
@@Zaphod-ef9yz You pretty much voice my fears exactly - I would love to see B7 redone well, but I'm not sure it can be redone well in my lifetime.
@@politenessman3901 same, if you haven't already done so then I can highly recommend the Big Finish B7 Audio full cast audio series' they are pricey so shop around but part of the beauty of B7 I found was it was that low budget on TV they were forced to focus on story lines and character development which has made the transition to audio so seemless and authentic you can literally put the scenes together in your head easily, it's honestly brilliant.
I agree, the Liberator is as much an Icon as the show's name. It must remain the same. Apart from that, everything else was just epic
Love too see one of the Networks picking up a Blake's 7 reboot. that would be awesome
Fantastic piece of work...we can but dream...
A great update of the intro!
Absolutely Amazing . I watched the series from 1978 to 1981. And recently on Forces TV.So many memories of this great sci fi show.
I've only just stumbled across this - excellent work, well done
I'm really pleased that no-one can better the original Matt Irvine/BBC version of the Liberator design.
Superb!
I like this!
You've captured the oppressive essence of the show alright!
Fantastic stuff and obviously a labour of love.
Got to agree with xoio about the Liberator though.
She's a design classic.
Don't know why people have to fiddle about with it!
Loved the visuals truly, though I'm not sure the music has been enhanced.
Wish so hard they would remake this show. 🙏 Well made, I like it.
So do I. I want Idris Elba for Blake and Tom Hardy for Avon
@@SesameR7sh interesting choices. I dig it😎 Idris as Blake.. Yeah, I can see that.
Who you suggest for Cervelan?
@@misterangel8486Servalan is so difficult, just like Avon.
But right now I'm watching Marie Antoinette and I think the guy playing Emperor Joseph world make a great Avon. Jonas Bloquet
@@misterangel8486 wait, actually change of answer. Marie Antoinette provides several . Jonas Bloquet should be Blake. Louis Cunningham Avon, Gaia Weiss Jenna or Servalan and Oscar Lesage for Vila. And Liah Ó'Prey as Cally.
If only someone could have the vision to bring the series back. We wait in hope.
That's bloody excellent work. I loved it.
Simply Wow!
Impressive. I like the old Liberator design though.
Now that's one scary ship, it looks like three hypodermic needles coming at you! Argh! *runs in terror*
Excellent work..
However.. don't mess with the liberator.. That ship was perfect in its shape & detail already.
It just needed 21st century CGI to 'de-plastic-model' it & make it look huge & real. Nothing else.
Your animation, whilst impressive, no longer looks like the ship which has cult status.
Very good though all in all.
Looks amazing! Shot of the Liberator is great! Even though I think all fans, myself included, have very specific ideas concerning a redesign ;) Best redesign of the Blake's 7 intro I've seen.
Excellent work, puts my Blake'7 Titles for my Redux to shame.
So good. Do more like this please.
Ok Im going to be the odd one out here....as much as I loved the original Liberator and always will, this new one in my opinion is actually better and heres why....
There were two designers I loved as a kid and still appreciate their work, they were Chris Foss and Ron Cobb (of Alien ship design, and who doesnt like the Nostromo right?)
Now Chris Foss designed some wonderful spacecraft, in fact he did some design work for Alien. With Foss, his designs were done with the approach of "make it look cool" while not worrying to much about how a ship might actually function and how it would be laid out accordingly.
Ron Cobb on the other hand designed his ships with the "how would it actually work" approach and how would those factors govern its final form.
Foss designed some wild ideas for the Nostromo and Alien derelict but it was Cobb and his more practical looking, engineered ships that made in into Alien.
I see the same with the original Liberator and the one seen in this video.
The original Liberator looks absolutely cool, visually its an iconic and instantly recognisable shape.....which in my mind makes it very Chris Foss. As cool as it looks its a massive ship and even with alien tech and materials, those weopons pod arms look way to fragile to absorb the kind of loads imparted by a drive that makes it the fastest ship in the galaxy, they look theyd snap off. The design reminds me of the USS Enterprise and its spindly engine pylons, that and the fact that the old Liberator design says ocean liner.
The new Liberator design seen here is much more Ron Cobb and that why I like it, it looks more engineerd. Gone are the spindly weapon pod arms and theyre replaced with shorter, thicker arms that look they might actually be able to cope with massive acceleration loads.
It also reminds me of a Trident which makes it much more like a warship as opposed to an ocean liner, not unlike how USS Defiant from DS9 was the same feel, it was compact and solid looking compared to every other federation ship in the show and did away with engine pylons all together.
To me this new design just looks more like a warship, it looks dangerous!
So yes I too still love the original Liberator, but theres love in my heart for this new one too, they are just two different designs.
One wonders, if the Liberator design in this video was the one the one that was in the original series.......would you have loved just as much today??😆😆😆
Very impressive
put up the radiation flare shields clear the neutron blasters for firing.....
Very good indeed! Nice one. Agree tho' on leaving Liberator 'as is'. Also one other 'distraction' - the eye near the beginning with fire reflected in Iris is just a bit *too* reminiscent of Bladerunner opening credits. All the rest - top notch.
This is like re-inventing the Star Wars Theme..........But it's pretty good
Liked it. Nice go at making the Liberator different, although I am sure fans want the old one. I don;t mind certainly.
OK that was cool
wow. just wow. I literally felt the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Nice.
Though, the little pylon-things on the front of each "arm" of the ship are a bit long, but other than that... very nicely done.
Btw, has anyone done their own retake of the Blakes7 theme? updated it to modern instruments maybe? cause I'd LOVE to get my hands on it.
that's quite cool. Nice new slant on everything. I wrote to the beeb asking them to do a 'lucas' and re-release B7 with all new effects, about 16 years ago. They told me they didnt have the copyright??? Anyway you're well up for the job!
The Terry Nation Estate holds the rights, and will continue to do so for at least another 26 years. The correct legal name for the series is "Terry Nation's Blake's 7," and the Estate guards his intellectual property with claws of steel. They nearly stopped the Daleks from being used on Doctor Who when it was revived in 2005.
Really wonderful, thanks - I love the short intro on the DVD's as well, have you seen it, where the final riff is played with a guitar, fab ;-)
The third Liberator no one talks about. :P
You mean the one that Jenna was building in secret. Avon escaped with Vila. Dayna, only wounded by Arlen's pistol survived too. Orac led them to Jenna at a secret location where she had been building the new Liberator with Orac's help, minus some of the Alien functions. Soolin and Tarrant were wounded by troopers rifles and were unconscious. Servalan executed them herself, then took Arlen as her personal bodyguard. Jenna piloted the new Liberator into series 5 episode 2...
Wake up Netflix
cool ;))
Speed standard by ten!
What's this work that you're doing to enhance 'The Way Back'? I had a look at the Luddite Films website, couldn't see any mention of it..
Very impressive work, by the way.
Done a great job , apart from the liberator should leave it as it was it was perfect as it was.
Nice work.
I *like* your ship design, but agree with the other posters about the original being near perfect. If I got to produce a B7 with you, I'd make/suggest your ship design be a Federation copycat. :)
I hope in any reboot the Federation troopers are portrayed in a way that brings to mind the IRL riot police that abuse/control various populations. For instance a shot with a 'medic' battering someone, like in the famous photo.
Get rid of the "General Midi" instrument sounds and it'll be a lot better plus the last two chords aren't quite there either. I dunno how Dudley Simpson created the sound for the last two chords but get that bit down to a tee, possibly enhance it and the cherry will be on the cake.
Sounds like a Hammond organ fed through a vocoder
@@Problembeing @leepshin
That recording is from a CD album published in the late-1990s, long, long before this title sequence was created, and presuably had nothing to do with the animators here. Most of the tunes on the CD are pretty feeble imitations of the originals, although its version of the Space:1999 theme is pretty good.
And here I was thinking 'Remake=Crap'. How wrong I was!
Liked the original.
very good use other plug ins for the music though - there are far better ones than those these days
The music was a bit out of timing, out of tune and generally sloppy (Artist: The London Theatre Orchestra - REALLY; it sounded more like fruity loops) , but as a fan film it is an excellent effort and the start of something to be proud of.
Not bad. Quite good actually! Although, please just leave the liberator design alone, okay? 👍
Interesting... but the Liberator looks cack! - Re-model it to the original, it can be nothing else.
Nice intro, but I don't like that Liberator re-design!!
I prefer the old model.
Apart from the music and the Liberator, it was average 😂
Very good but didn't like the liberator sorry
Sadly if the BBC remade this today it would be Briennes7 with all manner of SJW wokeness laboured into it.
But Blake's 7 is SJW.
Very poor.
That's a terrible attempt at depicting the Liberator. Have you never seen the original ship? For one thing its bigger, and for another its White! What is it with this modern trend to make ships all dingy and horrible looking. They even made the Starship Enterprise look a dingy grey in the remade SFX on the original series video releases. Seriously WTF!?!
