To me, its quite simple to understand: IF there was a brief nuclear war, the sheer destruction from just One Single Bomb....would bring what we call civilization, to an end. A sane person, would not want to survive. 'Threads'....was pretty accurate. The survivors would envy the dead.
I think the home office tailored its casualty figures to be more in line with their ability to provide care, emergency services, and basic necessities to the survivors. If they admitted their model for number of deaths and wounded was wrong, their abilities to cope would come into serious question.

Nuclear war was whilst not on the cards, something that feared with good reason. The Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and the end of detente did push things to the brink, it was a result of seeing the Day After that Reagan became shit scared of nuclear war and when Gorbachev became Russian premier worked on scaling things back.

@@jamesmitchell8922 It seems like Poland is trying to take advantage of the situation and possibly take back parts of Ukraine that were part of Poland, pre second world war. There has already been talk, among some of Poland's less than sensible political class, of going into Western Ukraine as a peace keeping force, as a unilateral force seperate to NATO . This is of course a ruse, which would most likely develop into some sort of confederation between the two countries with West Ukraine in an inferior position to Poland. Belarus is probably perturbed by this idea, since there are unresolved territorial disputes between these two countries as well. If Poland did this. all bets would be off, with Hungary and Romania all making claims to parts of Ukraine. After it was all over Ukraine would be a tiny rump state, with no access to the sea, a far smaller population, and little to no resources. The whole thing could of escalate of course, with Russia seeing these individual claims as a NATO intervention via the backdoor, with the consequences of this being exactly as bad as one could imagine. George Friedman, one of the heads of Stratfor, a private security consultancy, composed of ex CIA staff, talked about the possibility of this several years ago, I think maybe even even before the Maidan uprising. With all that in mind, following the Minsk 2 accords, which is what the majority of the Ukrainian population wanted, (when they voted for Zelensky, originally a peace candidate), seems like a good option in retrospect.
Only for a short time. Cockroaches have a slow cell division, so are less susceptible to radiation poisoning initially. Eventually they would die like everyone/thing else.

Unbelievably great introduction theme. Brings memories back when I was a school boy in the 80s drinking my tea and watching World in action
My all time favorite film is Threads- it's the most disturbing film I've ever seen. It is very well done and so chilling
Yes, I saw it when it first came out. It gave me nightmares and still does.
Watched it a school as a 8year old kid.scared the shit out of me.
Such a great film and scared the shit out of me as a child.
Watch the war game 1965
Yes I saw it at home in Uk in 1985 and at school
My mum always watched this and the intro music and graphics always creeped me out😅 Like a lot of 80’s programmes!
The South Bank Show intro actually used to scare me 😂
Loved the closing music
It's amazing isnt it? It's called 'Jam for World in Action', and the full version is on youtube.
I called it bedtime music , that and the closing music to The Sweeney. very relaxing. @@thepenultimateninja5797
Thanks for uploading this episode. It’s really interesting.
I used to watched it on every Monday night in the seventies eighties and nineties
My Dad did.
What the heck has happened to our country? Compared to now seeing this seems like a bloody paradise.
The entertainment journalists took over and there are no serious journalists left
Thank you
