I always learn something about vintage sewing machines, regardless of brand or vintage, from your great videos.

An hour long video is ok by me. You have a great way of explaining things. GO FOR IT!

Thanks for all your information. Found you by accident! I have many older sewing machines and you have provided some very great info. I love older machines and have been able to get all my up and sewing, but there is so much I do not know. Like age, makers and how to oil or not oil. Learning so much from you.

Hello! I think it's a great idea to make a video showing how to thread the sewing machine. Like you said, sometimes the manual's pictures or diagrams aren't that easy to understand.

Warts are ok. They are part of her life. Tape and marker give me hints about which machine I'm using. I have a White that has a similar bobbin system, with of course, non-standard tires. Smaller inside diameter, so I'm on the hunt as well.

Great video. I love all your videos, I have learned so much with them. I also make sewing machines videos, but in French as the machines I restore go back on Kijiji. In my area, it is mostly French speaking folks, so my videos are for them. Anyway I found out the best cleaner for old Scotch tape residus is lighter fluid. I think this will also work for masking tape residus. The lighter fluid does not damage the paint, either on old black machines nor on colored ones.

Car finishes are delicate as well. They sell vinyl scrapers supposedly guaranteed not to scratch, used to take off bumper stickers.

I can't wait to see how you clean that Necchi. I have my grandmother's 1934 Necchi which needs the paint finish cleaned.

How about cleaning a machine someone left in a moldy case? The smell is ghastly even after I cleaned out every bit of oil and grease. It’s a gorgeous world’s fair edition of a White “Lady” and I’m heartbroken. Bought online off eBay and the sellers weren’t truthful.

Well, the good news is that you can remove the machine and install it into another case or table. The machine itself will only absorb odors into old oil or grease. The metal itself does not actually hold odor and so once you have the machine cleaned and re-oiled, this should help in removing the smell. I have tried in the past to spray or wipe bleach-based cleaners on the case and (sometimes) the smell will dissippate with this treatment followed by airing out by placing outdoors in warm sunlight. Most of the odor you are smelling is from mildew which can penetrate the vintage cases; many of which were made with a board-like material covered in vinyl/fabrics which absorb moisture and molds.
