- Indoor Air Quality is one of the most under-appreciated factors that affect our health. Poor air quality can cause a host of health problems. Breathing in super fine particles is not good for your overall health.
It's very common for the workers of a new home to sweep their trash into the duct work. This should absolutely NOT be allowed. When building new make sure you let your contractor know this will not be tolerated.

Out curiosity what's the fix for this? Do they have to replace the HVAC ductwork or just take some compensation for the damage to the system?
well, if it done, you just have to get them cleaned by a professional duct cleaning company to the best of their ability. Not ideal, but pretty much all you can do. You could replace all the lines, but that's usually cost prohibitive.
So what happens if we didn't check it beforehand? Is there any way to clean it out after the fact? I built my new house 5 years ago...so I'm sure it's too late at this point.
You still want to get them cleaned. While you can't get every last particle, hiring a NADCA certified duct cleaning company is still a great idea.
