  • Alivo is our home, so we have been working hard to make her feel like one, not just a weekend cruiser. So as we discover fun additions that make our lives easier on a sailboat, I hope you enjoy that we are sharing them with you.
Next up Connor, tries to put lipstick on a pig! hahaha. What that means, is we are holding off on repainting Alivo, and while Connor wraps up painting the bilge, why not use some of the paint, to touch up some of the brown spots that are eye sores in the white paint.
Septic upgrades, new cushions for the cockpit, and Connor makes our snubber!!!
    Woohooo!!
    Enjoy :)

I think once you get anchored out in diff conditions you will get a better feel for how the snubbers doing and adjust from there. Every boat is different in what works best.
Great job on the videos they are really coming along.

Congrats on your first eye splices! We use a similar bridal, with the same Mantus snubber. I like to keep the ends about ten feet longer than you currently are using. If the weather/swells are fine, I keep the length short as you have yours. But if the wind blows and the waves start our boat's bow heaving up and down two or three feet, I let out the extra ten feet to provide more stretch in the nylon snubber lines to keep the chain from jerking - that is the whole idea behind a snubber. The extra ten feet on each end helps the stretch so your chain gets a more gradual pull. Being in the water doesn't seem to affect the Mantus all, maybe even better than having sunlight rot the rubber strap. (I enjoy watching you guys fix up a boat design that I nearly bought!)

Wow, awesome! Great to hear. Thanks so much for the tip! You have to come out sailing! Are you close to Marina del Rey?

@@AlivoSailing Thanks for the invite, however, we are cruising Maine for the summer, right now awaiting the arrival of the remnants of hurricane Debbie. I suspect our bridal will get a workout starting tonight. We will be letting all ten feet out on both sides! We will also be making sure the chafing protection is in place and keep an eye on it. There is good holding ground where we are and not very many boats around, so plenty of swing room; we should be fine.

How did it go? We hope you are safe and all went well. Heartbreaking to see what happened in the Caribbean! Sending you safe travels and calm anchorages!!

@@AlivoSailing Why, aren't you nice for asking! Things went well. The forecast was 34-48 knots (depending on the weather service). Most we saw was 30, for easy for us to handle. We went to bed early! The next morning we sailed north to Boothbay, big swells and moderate winds - a bit of a rough ride - we probably should have waited another day for the swells to die down, but had a friend we were meeting here in Boothbay. I've never been here before; neat little harbor.

If you are going to have the snubber lines that short look into adding a couple of rubber snubbers to the set up. Mine work great.

If I were making a snubber, I would leave the bitter ends and not put an eye on the end. With those small ballards up front, you can just cleat hitch to the length required for a given situation.. As far as keeping the rubber strap out of the water, I wouldn't worry. Just how do you think you will be anchored in one spot? The UV out of the water will do far more damage than being wet. Store below deck when not in use.

Good afternoon crew members of the S/V Alivo
I was observing how the Toerail of the boat was previously painted with white oil paint, it is not so bad because its previous owner perhaps got tired of applying sandpaper and varnish, but after time it begins to lose layers due to the punishment of the Sun and the aggressive salt.
Well, the Varnish looks very pretty to the eye but it has a fucking disadvantage, you have to apply many coats and sand between coats and this lacquer will always remain on the surface.
There is "CETOL Marine" once the surface is clean and dry you apply it three coats with a time difference between coats of one hour, the CETOL will penetrate the wood and today this product comes with ceramides.
    P.S. Good job...
    Many successes...
On the inside of the jar for the wood, use linseed oil with beeswax (UA-cam) with a flannel to rub, do not use dyes, the oil will make its way into the wood and the wax is a sealant and adds shine.
    P.S.
    😢
