I think one of the most incredible aspects of Succession that I rarely hear anybody talk about is the fact that Connor Roy was interested in politics from a very young age, and I'm so glad you brought it up in your video.
oh my god yes! i LOVE the score and the visuals with it. i'm sure there's a lot of significance to it but the reason i like it is because it scratches an itch in my brain, in season one when the strings begin to play and the scene switches from old footage to the new york skyline and also the shot where they move sideways over a printer and then a person dining and my brain goes brrRr immaculate
I remember when the last of us first started airing on hbo and succession reruns would sometimes air afterward. I knew nothing about succession at the time (I have since watched the show), but lemme tell you, I kept that show on just to hear the intro before I went to bed
I love the subtle nods to the abuse and neglect these guys went through in their childhoods. Even though they mostly are adversaries and hate each other, whenever logan goes REALLY over the line or shit hits the fan in a big way they ultimately have some resquice of compassion and allegiance for each other. One of my favorite moments in the series is when logan punches roman in the face and kendall IMMEDIATELY comes out of a season long zombie state briefly enough to start lunging and screaming at him, straight up physical confrontation, to defend roman. And this comes from kendall at his most broken and submissive to his father! There are so many moments like this in the series and it's heartbreaking and heartwarming every time.
@@surtursaga6789 not really. There's an episode in season one where he wants to talk to Logan and is told his busy on a call and he can't talk to Conner at the moment and Conner says it's okay he got used to it as a kid

I think Kendall Roy is up there with BoJack Horseman as one of the best portrails of mental illness in all of television. Like, I don't want to play armchair psychologist here but he very much strikes me as having serious Bipolar disorder. He goes through prolonged manic episodes that are so painful to watch because you just know that it's only a matter of time before he craters into a massive depressive episode afterwords. (Mild Spoilers ahead) Season 3 is the best example of this in motion for me, the whole front end of the season has him seriously manic, and after a few close calls that have him wavering on the edge of a downward spiral, the way his mental state absolutely craters at the end of the season is so genuinely heart wrenching to watch, phenomenal narrative work and just an incredible performance from Jeremy Strong.
A bit personal but I can say that as someone with a bipolar father, Kendall really fits the bill. The mania is rather obvious once you pick up on the pattern, but season 2’s depiction of the depressive episode after mania (and the last part of season 3) is scarily accurate to the way my dad behaves when he’s depressed, down to the tiniest little mannerisms. It was especially heartbreaking for me to watch, but it’s so fucking good.
The crazy parallels between Kendall and Bojack just write themselves. The pool scene alone in each series is a great mirror on which to reflect about mental health

I genuinely couldn’t stand to finish the first episode. Kendell’s “middle-aged-man, frat boy” dialogue, the entire cast treating the socio-economic climate like a game of monopoly, the main cast who all came off as the spoiled, rich kids who rely solely on their father to be in the privileged positions they are in, etc. It genuinely put me in such a terrible mood, I didn’t try picking it up again until a little over a month ago. It was like, “fuck me, real life is already infuriating as it is. I can’t be fucked to deal with it in my spare time.” The show is almost too real, as overdramatic as that sounds. I’m glad I eventually did get around to it and am completely caught up as of today, but damn what an uphill battle for a premise.

@Razz Prince, I've stopped trying to convince others to watch it. Ironically, the things that turned me off Succession are the very ones that have sucked me in. I pulled myself over the wall. "One of us, one of us." 👐
Love this video, only thing i gotta disagree with is that i honestly adore Gerri and Romans weird ass relationship. Its a different dynamic that you dont get to see often!
Ok Connor as comedic relief but ALSO Connor as Logan’s father figure foil. He basically raised the other siblings- seemingly being the only person they grew up with who showed some form (though not a perfect form) of normal emotions 🫡 #connorroydefensesquad
I’d add on that even though the kids are complete assholes, I wouldn’t call them unlikeable. They all have redeemable qualities, especially when we see them interact as siblings (looking at you - dusty parking lot scene in season 3 finale). Even Logan has seeming moments of compassion. Like Holly Hunter says “I know your lying, but part of my still wants to believe you”. The new season in particular has a few moments so far where you forget all the bad just for a moment of good.
7:09 wait so either schaff was watching a show on his phone while walking in public, or he was on a treadmill at home which means when he “stopped in his tracks” he was thrown off of the machine. Idk which is true but both are funny images
The Roman/Gerri storyline was great. The cringe of when it finally peaks in Season 3 is right up there with some of the most disturbing moments in Peep Show (A sitcom by the same creator that every fan of Succession's humour should see).
Succession will be to breaking bad levels of popular when season 4 comes out. It is genuinely fantastic and the writing in the show is the best out there at the moment. Been a fan of the show runner for years he made a dark parody film about terrorists in England. It’s called four lions and is genuinely brilliant. You can see where the humour in the show comes from.
Succession has been in my watchlist for the longest time but I pushed it aside for Euphoria (which is also amazing up until Season 2) but DAMN! If the show’s as good as everyone says then I must be missing out
Ok. I get that everyone’s a little mixed on Euphoria but let me get this straight. I loved it up UNTIL the second season. The show majorly fell apart after that
I literally just thought to myself, “I haven’t seen an upload from Schaff in awhile,” and as soon as I open UA-cam to check, it shows that you posted this 1 minute ago. Incredible.
I didnt love this show when I was watching the first two seasons, although there were some excelent moments and lines that is stuck with me. But season 3 came out and made me fall in love with show. I can understand people saying it was a slightly drop in quality comparing to season 2, since they were trying something different, but me (laughs), i love every single second of every episode as days go by after the s3 finale, which is one of my favorite episodes on TV ever. So many themes, concepts, characters and their relationships that they set up in previous got such a phenomenal payoff imo. God men, I love this show now, wish more people watching it.
This show is the best TV show on television right now. No question in my mind. The writing is out of this world amazing. The acting is profoundly sincere. It makes me want to scream.
I remmember I saw this video in my video feed and I googled it and immediately started watching it. Now that I finally finished after 2 weeks I went straight to this video to watch your thoughts about this and I am glad you made this video otherwise I wouldn't have found out about this great show.
3:59 "Jeremy Strong's **harrowing** performance as the character." What a powerfully heart rending way to put it! "It's generally understood that Strong is the MVP." I didn't know that. It makes sense though. It's hard not to focus on Brian Cox. That a man so talented can be such a Mensch in real life. That Heart lifting. But absolutely, Kendall is a heart wrenching character. Btw, though I do cringe when he's rapping in his limo oblivious of how silly he must sound to his driver, by the time he wraps at Logan's birthday party, I was in his corner cheering him on. We were wary for a moment, but soon my fiancé got into the groove with him. "Go Kendall, go Kendall." It can be seen as a fun "Being Richie Rich is too restrictive; I'm gonna do something 'stupid' cuz it makes me feel more alive" moment. Why the hell not?
Eh, season 6 has been weaker than most of the other seasons imo. But at the same time, the latest episode is the second best episode in the series for me. Hopefully this is a sign that the second part gets much better so it can truly cement itself as good as Breaking Bad.
@@eugger3011 What are you talking about? Season 6 has been a blast and the mid season finale is one of the best episodes that BCS has done. In my humble opinion the only season of BCS that I would consider "weak" would be season 2 (and that's also an overstatement cause season 2 was also pretty great).
@@lechocolat3783 I agree that season 6 probably isn't the worst season (so far, at least). But imo episodes 5 and 6 (and some of episode 4) didn't really have much going for them and could've been reduced to 1 episode. I also think Nacho's death, while executed amazingly, made it seem like they didn't know how to connect him with the other parts of the story so they just killed him off. But since the season isn't over yet, I can't make any concrete judgements.
Nobody is going to read it but here I go. I watch thanks to you and yes 16:15 as you said, stick until season 1 episode 6 is my line to go to everyone else I recommended the series. Thank you very much for talking about it and giving it more exposure. Love u

Idk thats just what I've been thinking, but I do love Punpun's interpretation of so many things, especially what "God" represents.
Interesting idea for a video: every HBO series ranked. If you’re not interested in that, I would be really interested in retrospectives on The Sopranos, The Wire, Game Of Thrones, or other well known HBO programs
Because for what it’s worth, I actually would really enjoy a series recap on Game of Thrones if you were ever up for that. Most people just kind of talk about the last season and how it’s bad, but ignore the rest of it

Thanks for saying I should stick it out until season 1 episode 6. I watched 4 episodes but was a bit on the fence whether I can get into it or not. This video convinced me to keep watching!
Weddings really are the best in this show😢
I think you would love the show Barry. It's kind of like Bojack Horseman if Bojack was a hitman.
barry is excellent! bill haders performance is incredible
@@twdgs3 There's not a single worst performance on the show. Everyone on it is great, especially Anthony Carrigan as Noho Hank.
@@michaelstrong5383 agreed, hank quickly became one of my favorite characters on the show. i love sarah goldberg as sally as well! i haven't gotten caught up on season 3 yet but what i've seen so far is great.
"also none of my friends have watched it yet so I'm making a video to talk about it" what a relatable line 🤣 I'm trying desperately to get my friends to watch this show just so I can talk for hours on it
@Razz Prince, I've stopped trying to convince others to watch it. Ironically, the things that turned me off Succession are the very ones that have sucked me in. I pulled myself over the wall. "One of us, one of us." 👐
going to watch this solely for mr darcy. im in love with the man
Love this video, only thing i gotta disagree with is that i honestly adore Gerri and Romans weird ass relationship.
I'm glad someone is making a video about this amazing show!
If *F-off* is part of you’re daily vocabulary, you’re watching Succession.
The best show on TV right now is clearly Better Call Saul
Damn. Straight. That Season 6A finale was truly amazing.
Just watched the first episode lol excited to watch the rest
@@zacharysutton8263 Enjoy man. You’re in for one of the best shows of all time
@@zacharysutton8263 i just finished season 1 yesterday
What an amazing time for tv. Better call saul, Barry, stranger things, Kenobi, halo, and the boys this week. So awesome!
So much to talk about this show - one of the best of all time - but the score by Nicholas Britell especially the opening titles sealed the deal for me
*1:17* Man, Mr. hermit crab should definitely win an award for the most seamless ad transition of all times!
I thought he was a giant coconut crab with mythical powers.
(Day 12 of asking Schaffrillas to talk about Sid the Sloth in Encanto.)
@@emoji3266 Well, you would be correct... But coconut crab *is* a specific species of hermit crab superfamily!
@@NickAndriadze welp, the more you know!
7:09 wait so either schaff was watching a show on his phone while walking in public, or he was on a treadmill at home which means when he “stopped in his tracks” he was thrown off of the machine. Idk which is true but both are funny images
I’d love a spoiler talk of succession now that it is over.
The Roman/Gerri storyline was great. The cringe of when it finally peaks in Season 3 is right up there with some of the most disturbing moments in Peep Show (A sitcom by the same creator that every fan of Succession's humour should see).
TFW you love a show so much you start watching videos that try to convince you to watch a show you watch
They just won the Emmy.
Bravo, Succession.
Succession has been in my watchlist for the longest time but I pushed it aside for Euphoria (which is also amazing up until Season 2) but DAMN! If the show’s as good as everyone says then I must be missing out
There are plenty of amazing shows out there. I still have faith in humanity.
(Day 12 of asking Schaffrillas to talk about Sid the Sloth in Encanto.)
Euphoria? Amazing? Ha!
Succession is superior to Euphoria
All solid seasons
Ok. I get that everyone’s a little mixed on Euphoria but let me get this straight. I loved it up UNTIL the second season. The show majorly fell apart after that
ua-cam.com/video/Asih9nju9vU/v-deo.html
Finally it’s here.
I literally just thought to myself, “I haven’t seen an upload from Schaff in awhile,” and as soon as I open UA-cam to check, it shows that you posted this 1 minute ago. Incredible.
OH HELL YEAH IT’S FINALLY HERE
It is definitely the best show on tv right now, no exaggeration!
God men, I love this show now, wish more people watching it.
idk if schaff would be down for it but i would love to see a full video dedicated to his thoughts on the whole show of community diving into more.
This show is the best TV show on television right now. No question in my mind. The writing is out of this world amazing. The acting is profoundly sincere. It makes me want to scream.
I can't wait until the Owl House Season 2B review!! You make suck great content!!
I remmember I saw this video in my video feed and I googled it and immediately started watching it. Now that I finally finished after 2 weeks I went straight to this video to watch your thoughts about this and I am glad you made this video otherwise I wouldn't have found out about this great show.
I can barely imagine his reaction to TOH and Amphibia. *Grabs Popcorn and Soda* This is where the fun begins.jpg
I know that Succession or Better Call Saul are pretty much objectively the best shows going on right now, but TOH is definitely my favorite.
3:59 "Jeremy Strong's **harrowing** performance as the character."
What a powerfully heart rending way to put it!
"Go Kendall, go Kendall."
It can be seen as a fun "Being Richie Rich is too restrictive; I'm gonna do something 'stupid' cuz it makes me feel more alive" moment. Why the hell not?
I'm not gonna watch it but I'll watch funny crab man talk about it
Same
You weren't wrong when you said sh*t goes down at weddings in Succession. The event that happened during Connor's wedding in S4 was jaw-dropping.
The best show on TV right now is Better Call Saul. Succession is a close second.
Dont get him Started on Better Call Saul
Thank you so much for this video. I would never of been able to experience last night, live, if not
I wonder what James thoughts are on kings tide
Nobody is going to read it but here I go.
I watch thanks to you and yes 16:15 as you said, stick until season 1 episode 6 is my line to go to everyone else I recommended the series.
Thank you very much for talking about it and giving it more exposure.

Obi-Wan Kenobi and Stranger Things came out this week.
Schaffrillas: Perfect time to drop a Succession video.
Yea, Strenger things ended with S3 and it is hard to give a d@mn about SW anymore, so checks out

I haven't seen succession but this gives me major Oyasumi Punpun vibes. I feel EVERYONE should read the manga for most of the same reasons as successions. At the end of the day, life is all about learning from your experiences. Learning from people in those experiences. Acknowledging and accepting everything about your life whenever you're best able to use the tools you've always been given. Idk thats just what I've been thinking, but I do love Punpun's interpretation of so many things, especially what "God" represents.
Nice to see you are still alive, I was starting to worry about during your hiatus.
"Best show on television"
Haha, Schaffrillas hasn't watched Better Call Saul.
Wait, I'm jealous.
Watch Barry or Mr.Robot They are the real deal

He has. And he has a whole video on why it’s overrated.
The more of succession I watch the more Logan keeps reminding me of my own grandpa. Besides the part where he's rich.
Better call saul has a case bro
I do love succesion tho
Interesting idea for a video: every HBO series ranked. If you’re not interested in that, I would be really interested in retrospectives on The Sopranos, The Wire, Game Of Thrones, or other well known HBO programs
Because for what it’s worth, I actually would really enjoy a series recap on Game of Thrones if you were ever up for that. Most people just kind of talk about the last season and how it’s bad, but ignore the rest of it
i'm on episode 3 and starting to struggle, hoping there's more to it because watching bad rich people only goes so far
I can't believe how timely this is! I just finish the third season this weekend And I've been looking for more discussing about it!
I just watched the Moral Orel episode, Alone and I’d say that you should watch that show in turn
Either way thanks for recommending this show to us.
I just watched Steve Reviews on it just a couple of hours ago...
I think he has watched it, based on his joke in his Shrek the Third video
yES convert them to Succession you're doing the lord's work
Fr Succession is one of my all-time favourite shows - like you said, everything about it is just tOP TIER. I don't know much about acting, but I was absolutely floored by the quality of the acting, and every episode was just an absolute treat to watch. And I am hERE for the Shiv love, she rose up to be my favourite character tbh, and yEAH her relationship with Tom is just so endlessly fascinating
All the relationships are endlessly fascinating tbh. It's an endlessly-fascinating show :'D
Nah chief, the best show on TV right now is easily better call saul, can't believe you think it's overrated.
i think we'd really love a detailed, not spoiler-free video essay of your take on the show, i know i do!
Succession is one of the only five tv shows I can watch without moving a muscle
Some of the best character story telling (and acting) of TV ever
This whole show sounds like a version of It's Always Sunny where all the characters are still unlikeable assholes but also rich, powerful, and hyper competent. It's even got its own Cricket! I'm sold!
HELL YEAHHHHHHH IM GLAD THAT YOU ARE MAKING A SUCCESSION VIDEO. THIS SHOW DESERVES ALOT MORE FAME
Schaff please rank the adventure time songs some of them are so damn good
First episode hooked me just with the characters alone, thanks for the recommendation :)
Will you be making a Better Call Saul review after s6? Just curious haha, since it's pretty popular currently.
I just finished the season 3 finale and I want to say, THANK YOU
I'm going to keep asking this until I actually get an official answer, because I at least want the closure:
Are you guys still planning on making the fully updated Smash Bros _Greatest Show_ music video now that all the DLC is out, like you said you would in the second one?
I just hope they would mention Sid the Sloth in Encanto. It really pisses me off that the whole internet would talk about this, but not Schaffrillas?
