I was one of the last people to be with Gene before he died -- he was in a wheelchair at the time. we were reminiscing about old science-fiction tv shows; particularly, the outer limits. We also talked about one of his best friends (DeForest Kelly) -- the person who played Dr. McCoy "Bones" on Star Trek. He was a true visionary and futurist -- his ideas helped design some of our military technology (Star wars defense system) I worked on the Star Wars Defense System (SDI) where we used the concept of Gene Roddenberry's USS Enterprise photon torpedoes. We didn't want the world to know that Gene was responsible for so much of our advanced military technology so we didn't name the system photon torpedoes but instead we named it Particle Beam Accelerator. As an inside joke we use the same female voice from the USS Enterprise artificial intelligence computer for our own military computer systems -- priceless ! Arthur C Clark was another visionary who help develop advanced military and commercial technology. So, when you watch a new science fiction film don't be surprised if that technology comes to fruition in the near future.
Leonard Nimoy did all the work even if Gene started it all. Tee Hee! It is really incredible what can happen when something this popular can generate so much industry. Star Trek has spanned the Cosmos and returned to our time a wonderful show and a industry that encouraged generations of people to find love and adventure among the stars. Live Long and Prosper! Hoorah! to the Star Fleet Federation!
The most underrated creator ever!
