I had a GYTR250. Amazing Vet bike. Light feeling, with plenty of engine to ring out. GREAT compromise between 250/450. Would get one again in a hot second.
Why doesnt Yamaha make a GYTR edition YZ250F and YZ450F? Similar to KTMs Factory Editions. Would be a great option for someone looking for a complete ready to go Mod 250F and makes good sales for GYTR
Good idea, but go add up the price of a complete GYTR setup. Yamaha could build it and a few would probably sell, but the price point would kill it IMO.
I have taken in four Yamaha Demo Days at different MX tracks and have owned six Yamaha bikes of various types. On two occasions they had a GRTR YZ 250F alongside the stockers and my opinion is that the GYTR bike is more mechanical, more hard-edged, than the stocker. Me being a mod-C class guy would not really benefit from that modded bikes higher revs, as I don't rev my bike that much anyway. The stocker always was more plush and that is what I like. Great comparison !!!
i appreciate you saying this. I think suspension, a slip on muffler and an ecu would be ideal for me. Wouldn’t touch the engine until it down the road if needed.
You can always detune a 450. But you can't uptune a 250. For bigger riders or vets that have already been riding big bore machines. There's nothing to be spooked by with a modern 450. It just needs to be set up properly, and an ECU map loaded that's manageable for the rider. The way my '21 yz450f came from the dealer, it was basically a death trap. Virtually unrideable. I had to go over the whole bike, front to back, top to bottom. The power was completely unmanageable. That's the biggest consideration when deciding on a 450 or 250. If your not a good enough mechanic to keep a 250 running in a controllable manner. Then a 450 isn't for you. More power can only benefit you, if it's controllable. Figuring out how to keep over 60hp from killing you, can be a challenge.
I totally agree. I’m a 140lbs weekend warrior, and my 21 YZ450FX was so violent I couldn’t ride around a parking lot without jerking around. All I did was spend 10 minutes playing with the power tuner and it is now the easiest bike I have ever ridden. Went from unrideable (for me) to a easier bike than my KTM 350. A 450 is simply a drastically more versatile bike than a 250 for off-road.
Same here! Detuned my 21 YZ 450 a lot and I'm in love with that bike. After my first ride in stock trim I really thought about selling the bike but the app helped to smooth it out.
@@lampenracer I wouldn't say I detuned mine so much, as just tuned it to make more manageable, linear power. It still wails hard as fuck. But I can keep it between my legs, without getting wrung out like a rag doll. Set up is very important. Brakes and ergonomics. Along with overall handling. Power has to be brought on gradually as you get the bike to stay manageable for more than 10min. I'd never willingly pull power out of a tune. Just adjust how it comes on.
have ridden a gytr full spec with akra on a yzf450 2022, that was something, gearbox 4 speed, a HUGE torque but have something that doesn’t make it slide (still oem suspension), i think it’s like 5/6 HP (10% +/-) on a 450. maybe little more as 12/15% for a 250 (procircuit top end give you around 6HP without doing anything for example)
@@AntoineCS2 I'd have to see the charts. No way in hell is a person getting 7hp from a pro circuit top end. .5hp maybe... I wonder if a vortex ignition can do just as much as a ported engine now because the machine processing and downdraft designs are so good. If you look at a modern four stroke head there can't be muych a person can do to make it better other than maybe add a slightly different seat angle or something. 5 angle instead of 3 not sure.
@@AntoineCS2 ohh ya all that together I can see it. I thought you meant just for a piston. Yeah I know the pc level bikes are right at 50hp. Which is nuts!
One reason is the stock bike is the slowest in the group, so you're able to push deeper into the corner as you aren't going as fast. Second, the chassis had more time on it and was plusher feeling while the GYTR bike had a brand new frame.
@@The_Life_Of_Tyor maybe review parts that the consumers will buy? A $3500 gytr top end mod motor isn't being bought or used by many people. Normal people would buy a big bore kit and just be done with it. 99.99% of them will be racing an open Vet class anyway. And sure that piston is $200, plus the gasket kit $100, valves and other stuff to rebuild a top end. Oh and maybe a crank at 40 hours cause your putting more stress on it with a high comp piston..... and better hope you don't throw a ring into the cylinder and trash that head and cylinder.....
@@utube358yeah a big bore is what 99% of people are gonna do cause they're very much easily reliable. A stock bore mod motor top end won't be. It's comical.
I wonder what maps the where trying on the 450. I mean if u run a mellow map on the 450 it is not that hard at all to ride. Its a different riding style! Cant be as aggresive, and if u are a 250rider yeah well. Also you where running glenn hellen. Hard to grasp you didnt beat the laptimes on the 450. I bet it cuz you where not used to the 450.
Find Keefers video where he explains what he did to his Loretta Lynn's 2024 YZF450 race bike. Top to bottom. He for sure wasn't looking for more power on his Yamaha.
Thank you!!! I think you might have saved me money 😂… cause I think that’s why a lot of people are here because we basically want a yz350f and I was hoping this kit would help me build that but after watching this… meh 🫤
Also at 11:35 …. I tried that.. I bought a 2018 yz450f in hopes of taking power away and sorry but it didn’t work how I thought … still too much inertia for me… I’m a vet rider and not a heavy dude so if your like me I think your better off just sticking with the stock 250f and building it up… yours truly -🦑

Good review !! This mix of bikes and riders is an awesome way to test !!

Wow that GYTR bike looks really nice, if I ever had to replace parts in my motor id do the GYTR kit instead

ktms so called factory additions are just glitter on a turd, Nothing like GYTR heads etc .
Love, love my YZ250/IT465cc 2 stroke best of both! I smile just thinking about it.
You make a great case for a 283cc big bore 250 with the GYTR cams.

You should have had a Husky 350 in that Comparison Test!
Haha, I love the 350 platform, but I don't think Yamaha would have liked the idea.
not a category, no one races a 350 o and its a ktm not a Huskavana

Should do a mod and stock 250 2 stroke vs the 250f’s
So would a big bore be better cost wise it’s cheaper. Would it get closer to 350?
How about the GYTR engine with a dual injector kit?!
Dude what did you do to your head?
Shot this months ago, hair hated me. - ML
Does this bike have the different motor mounts that allow a small shift in weight bias off of the front ?
No
Is any photo of the mellow map you mentioned of the 450
Let me look and see if it's still in my phone. I returned the bike last week, but should still have the map.
So get a 350, best of both worlds…
Best of both worlds if it was a Yamaha and felt like a Yamaha and not a ktm

why is it that you can push deeper in the corners with a stock bike that has been broken in? find the reason and put that in the new bike

Only thing missing, the YZ250 😝
If someone wants a Japanese 250 closer to the KTM 350, don't go GYTR, go big bore
Gytr vs 350

I have a yz250f with a 290cc big bore, exhaust and cams ...super reliable and can hang with 250 2 strokes
