      I don't think it's an easy issue to solve. And we're so divided. AND we want to look to Congress to solve our problems, but is there a way to work on this without needing them?

    • @Spore6001
      @Spore6001 6 років тому +2

      I think the main issue is that people are divided on what the issue actually is, and until people agree what the issue is no steps can be taken to resolve it. Half are arguing that the issue is guns and the other half are arguing that its not guns, that it's issues such as mental health for example. So America is stuck in a stalemale, with both sides refusing to budge, and meanwhile everyday regular people are having their children shot in the head.

    • @ReviewingMagnet
      @ReviewingMagnet 6 років тому +1

      Its redundant to say we're divided, we're always divided, it just changes when half the populace stop giving a shit, doesn't mean they now 100% agree. Only 13% of Americans wanted to revolt against Great Britain

    • @Kfrench0661
      @Kfrench0661 6 років тому

      Spore6001 personally, i don't see a clear solution. 1) take away guns? or come up with some buyback program like Australia did? i don't think that's going to work in the US, and I think it's very likely you'll have people keeping what they already have illegally. 2) figure out how to reach people with mental health issues? this seems more plausible, but again, it's really complicated. how will we be able to identify every potential threat? it seems like in this case more might have been done to stop this kid. I just don't know what a rollout of a real program would look like, but it seems like a good avenue. 3) make it harder to get a gun? this might be helpful. 4) arm and train teachers and faculty? maybe. maybe if there were a handful of highly trained individuals at every school, these things wouldn't happen. i just wonder if that's possible. maybe the mere risk of their being highly trained individuals in public places would be enough of a deterrant.

    • @Spore6001
      @Spore6001 6 років тому +2

      To give my personal opinion, I favour solution 3. I understand that getting rid of guns outright would cause to much of an issue in America, it seems very engrained in the culture and founding values. Guns can be a very useful tool for home protection. However, that doesn't mean it has to be a free-for-all. Apparently the shooter obtained his gun legally. It's also frustrating when you hear about congress shutting down ANY legislation to do with regulating guns, even the smallest increase in strictness. This also becomes even more frustrating when you look into how much the NRA donates to congressmen every year.

    It's not access to mental health or guns from my perspective. I have had the good fortune to travel allot and i have seen widespread access to guns in many countries. In Guatemala I hired a driver who had a sawed off shotgun stuck between the seats, I watched as a coca cola truck filled a soda machine as a guy stood next to it with a AK-47 guarding it. In Thailand my father in law has a S&W .357 right in Bangkok, getting a gun isn't very hard in Thailand and there is shooting ranges right in the city. In Russia you can own semi-automatic rifles, Shotguns, pistols are limited to rubber bullet models. Yet still in these countries they don't have mass shootings. Russia is a rural gun owning culture yet they don't shoot up schools. Why? Does anybody really believe Guatemala for instance has better access to mental health than the United States? Fuck no.
    I think for people like Rogan it's hard to see what the average American is experiencing on a daily basis in his Ivory Tower. With all due respect, and i do respect Joe Rogan, I think he is a good person, but living the life of money and celebrity that he does is a night a day difference from what the rest of us experience. To put it simply, we have a terminally sick country, and sick culture. Half of the country hates the other half. We only care about material things, consumption, money and vanity. We don't care for our fellow man, for our neighbors or have a sense of the greater good for the majority over the few. Here it's "fuck you, i got mine. I earned this or god gave it to me, so if you're poor you probably deserve it." All the while we know America is falling apart, again half of the country blames the other half. I'm not here to tell you which half is right.
    This reality isn't lost on our youth, on the kids who bully each other over vanity and wealth, of kids who come home each day to overworked depressed, angry or suicidal parents. Our country and culture is dying. *This is MUCH bigger than just guns or access to mental health. It is like standing besides your home engulfed in flames and saying is the problem lack of fire extinguishers or too many fire hazards. Call 911 motherfucker, you need to put the fire out first.*

I think just treating our fellow man with respect and dignity is a great step in the right direction since we sure seem to have an empathy and ‘it’s not my problem, I don’t care’ mentality..
      Teach people proper gun use and safety as well.. defence for in a hostile situation.. taking away guns is a bandaid on the issue that’s gushing let’s just say.. and I’m Canadian saying don’t let them take your rights, but instead work on better control, and screening for buying and obtaining firearms. Should we care about all those people we'll put out of a job or that will lose a business - do we support them or forget them because they're pigs that sell guns? Is it all guns that get banned, or some guns? If it's some guns, like things for hunting, who makes that decision? Are there carry/conceal permits? How do you enforce control if you allow hunters to have guns? Do you change the guns cops can carry, do those go away? etc etc - if you truly believe in "proper" gun control, you should try to be a bit more descriptive in your comments instead of shotgunning a sound bite.

    The problem with today's youth is that we are all becoming disconnected with reality. The constant connection with social media, our phones, video games ect. have deteriorated actual human connections; leading to a sense of disconnection with others. We need to spend time with our kids and teach them that love is all that matters and the importance of individuals and that life is precious. All we truly have is each other. Love one another and accept that we are all different and embrace it.

Trust me, if done correctly, the officer can not only be an officer, but also a person to talk to for these kids, as the officer in my school was.

      This is why liberals should not have access to guns. They know that they, themselves, are unstable; and have little self control. They project these character flaws onto everyone else; assuming that we are as defective are they. This is why logical, self controlled conservatives do not understand their (liberals) irrational fears. We also, frequently, assume that others are, or can be, as rational and self controlled, (and therefore not a danger to ourselves or others), as are we. However, conservatives recognize that there are those who cannot control themselves or act in a rational manner; and we therefore, choose to defend ourselves as necessary.

Kids are raising themselves these days, because both parents have to work so much to pay everyday bills. The parents arent able to guide their children in the right path anymore. At the same time if you arm teacher's what happens when one of them snaps and goes on a rampage? As I said I'm in the UK so its not on me to start shouting the odds but it seems no one needs a AR15 for protection' and as for defending from a tyrannical government that's just horse shit. People aren't saying that it is a hoax if they are calling it a false flag. People can still be killed in a false flag event, but the real murderers are the ones behind the scenes who are orchestrating them for their own agenda. Most of these mentally unstable kids are groomed by the FBI or the Deep State, and are mere patsies, the lone gunman, fall guy for their orchestrated event, with the agenda of trying once again to get Americans to give up their guns.
      These events have been happening in America since its inception. It is usually a certain type of corrupt group who think that doing these things are okay as long as they succeed in their ultimate goal. The Democrats who jumped on this event in the news were ready and waiting to manipulate the raw emotions of the populace to get them to give up their guns are likely the ones responsible for those deaths.

    Civilians stopping violence with a firearm in the US are far more common than people release.
    I have a CCW permit myself and have for a long time while I was at the laundromat around 5 years ago I drew on a man who picked up a young girl who she obviously didn't know he dropped her and ran away the girls mom called the police and he was later arrested. That was the only time I have ever drawn a weapon and if I wasn't armed yes I still would have done something but it may not have been as quick or effective.

      In the described situation of child abduction (where the selected victim is weak and defenseless) it is extremely rare for the culprit to be violent when confronted, look it up, they will often retreat shamefully. Everyone starts carrying weapons and you inevitably have the loons who pull a handgun on the first person to look at them funny. That said i commend the OP for intervening at all in this situation.
      The "there is no getting rid of them" attitude is part of the problem.
      There are scumbags in the UK too and, yes, you are 1.5 times more likely to be burgled in the UK than the US BUT you are 4 times more likely to be murdered in the US and 35 times more likely to be murdered with a gun. Even aggravated assault is 6.9 times higher in the US - which would suggest fear of "have a go heroes" is relatively low despite being a supposed detterent . All this bearing in mind the UK has a much higher population density (people per square mile). I understand that guns is a part of America culture and its not easy to change but there is no reason a civilian in the western world needs to own a semi-automatic weapon.
      There were armed guards at this school and they still did not prevent the murder of 17 students. They should have been "heroes" by your logic - they weren't.

    I love the fact that you see both sides of the issue and talk about it so freely, and you're chief concern is finding a solution. That is something that is difficult to find in the middle of an issue that is so emotionally charged. The solution to this issue is not going to be a simple one. A complicated problem is going to require a complicated solution. It will talk serious open non-emotional dialogue to figure it out. Totally agree with you on that.
    Asking someone why they want firearms is like asking someone why they study martial arts, or get into an Octagon and beat the crap out of each other. You'll hear all the same reasons for it. Interesting couple of facts for you. 30% of Americans own 100% of the firearms in this country. That's 95.6 million people who own all of the 257 million firearms. The U.S. Military (counting the national guard, reserves, and coast guard) only numbers 2.2 million. The Japanese, after the war was over, the leaders stated the reason they wouldn't invade U.S. soil was because of all the firearms owners in the country. They aren't the only ones who have said it. Firearms ownership is a deterrent to such things. It's also a deterrent for our government committing democide, or over stepping its constraints regarding the U.S. Citizens.
    I believe you're on the right track though with looking closer at the psychological aspects of the issue. People don't value human life as much as they use too. I've also noticed that people really don't consider issues to be issues until they are major issues. It's as if the concept of, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." As an example, people that end up in an affair often look at their situation and wonder how did I get here. You often hear it explained as, "we were talking one day and the next thing I knew we were sleeping together." Well, you start talking, at some point emotions develop, a kiss comes into play, and that eventually leads to other things until finally they are in the middle of a full blown affair. If they put some distance into the equation the moment you realize you have feelings for someone while you are in a committed relationship already, it wouldn't get to the affair stage and you wouldn't find yourself in the middle of break up or divorce as a result. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
    If there are signs, and people are reporting the signs, then authorities need to investigate, and then act on it rather than blowing it off as a teen acting out, or there's no law violated yet and do nothing. If the signs are there, investigate and do something. Now in Florida as a result of the Parkland atrocity, Police can now baker act a person, petition the courts and remove the weapons from the person's possession. They would then need to petition the courts to have their weapons returned to them, after 60 days. Psychological evaluation results from that period would be considered heavily in the decision.
    Complicated issue, complicated solution, but an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

    When I was a teen in the 80's, I carried my .22 long rifle to school on the bus and walked down the hallway to the wood working shop to finish the stock and fit it to a new gun rack that I had built. The .22 rifle was giving to me by my grandfather who brought the rifle with him from out of state... on an airplane. This problem is DIRECTLY related to a societal change. Guns have been around forever, but we didn't have school shooting problems until Columbine.

      Yeah but now they argue theirs always been mass shootings, and theirs always been a lot. Still when you look into them you can clearly see very different and identifiable motives. The modern mass shootings seem to have no motives at all no personal relation, just spray n prey in a populated area where guns are forbidden. Kill count is only motive.
      Past mass shootings typically are more likely to be gang related or domestic issues, and the shooter knows and has personal relations with victim/victims and it becomes a mass shooting because witnesses get killed etc.

Courts do it, other gov buildings do it. If we are to be a gun-world U.S. of A., then we must admit to some realities. The first thing I saw when I first heard about this shooting on the news was kids talking about how strange and weird he was. Nobody had anything nice to say about him. Most other countries allow citizens to have guns, but they’re far more controlled.

      Yup, there needs to be a solidified way to prevent dangerous people including mentally unstable people from getting a hold of these weapons, as well as having better security in schools and everywhere else. People should always have the right to bear arms without a doubt, but there has to be control. It only took Britain one school shooting for them to figure it out, it's taken America waaaayy too many.

    • @caseycamachoperez7774
      @caseycamachoperez7774 2 роки тому

      @@michaelflorczyk5495 One other thing I should have mentioned is that we also need more people to openly carry guns and we need to get rid of gun free zones.
      Most shootings occur in gun free zones where people are helpless to defend themselves.
      Every single school shooting we've had could have been prevented by someone else with a gun.
      And in every single school shooting there WAS a person with an open carry permit that COULD have had a gun, but didn't because they were in a gun free zone.
      Gun free zones have killed a LOT of people and it's ridiculous. People need to stop making themselves defenseless and should rather equip themselves with a firearm so that when somebody brings lethal force against them, they can shoot the motherfucker in the skull and spread their brains across the concrete rather than having the aforementioned scenario happening to them and our children.

    People have been raised to not know how to deal with the bad things in life. Disappointment, heart break, pain, bullies, loneliness, etc, are all parts of life. What happened to gathering yourself back up and moving forward?

    Think of this....in the last 25 years what has changed a LOT in the US? What could cause all these people to have so little respect for human life? The guns haven't changed much. Hell, when I was in high school in the 80's, we all had guns in our trucks so we could hunt before and after schools and there was no shootings!!! What changed, is the people. The bullying is out of control because kids get in trouble for defending themselves. The loss of value for human life comes dramatically from all these overly violent movies and video game where these kids sit and MURDER thousands of people over and over for hours and days on end. Anyone who thinks that these games don't play a major role in this are crazy. Sit and listen to how these kids talk to each other online while playing these games. They have zero positive social skills from these games. And parents let it happen and say oh not my kid!! Guns are inanimate objects. Get the people under control. Stop these fucking games and movies. Take charge of your children and be REAL PARENTS!! You are not your kids buddy. If they say they hate you because you take away their games and phones...good. keep them longer. Put responsibility on your children. Whoop their ass when they are little so you won't have to see them in jail when they are older.

I have never harmed another human being in my life ! Only 4% of all mass shooters in US history have been mentally ill. Depression is caused by a physical illness . Depressed people have low amounts of Serotonin in their central nervous system. Some peoples bodies do not manufacture enough Serotonin to keep them happy ! Fact ! Lets blame people with diabetes instead. diabetics really get weird when they run out of insulin ! Dangerous to the max sometimes ! Bad Old Gamer
      Look man, i agree with you 100% on everything you said. Most situations can be resolved with ease, very rarely would I ever find myself in a situation where I would need my weapon, HOPEFULLY. I fully trust in myself to resolve any situation peacefully, but i carry for that one person that won't listen to reason. Someone who would threaten MY life. Im not sure what kind of a man you are personally, but ill be god dammed before I let a mad man decide MY fate without me having a say. Im also not sure where you were born and raised, but I've grown up learning and seeing that some people are evil in nature and can't be reasoned with. And I prefer to be safe other than sorry.
      But to each his own! That's the beauty of America. Cheers

    The school I went to had security, metal detectors and gangs. It’s funny how many guns, knives and other weapons were seized every day with no further incidents. The schools which have had these kinds of incidents have had no substantial security measures if any. From my personal experience, it’s not a gun problem at all, its a security issue. I don’t hear any actual interpretations represented of the 2nd amendment in anyone’s arguments, or who’s responsibility it is to protect oneself or property. Why do you think that is joe?

    Wrong joe it’s not “only happening here” if you take all violent crime that’s happened in the USA mass shooting wouldn’t even be a fraction of on percent. Also an AR-15 is not the most effective weapon in a school shooting. A SHOTGUN would have been much more effective inside a school building. Thank you for being open minded, but it's not exactly fair to say that he bought the gun legally. He himself didn't commit a crime, but under the law he really shouldn't have been able to buy that gun. It was due to extreme negligence on the part of law enforcement and human services that he wasn't mentally adjudicated and therefore prohibited from buying the gun. He also should have been convicted of making terroristic threats, which would also prevent him from buying a gun. I cannot even begin to describe the gross negligence on so many levels that led to him being able to buy that gun. It's astounding.

I've recently been affected by a mass shooting and there are no strong enough words to describe it. The shortest way is that it's like 9/11 for a community. And the trauma will be felt for years to come. It will be a forever journey for the ones in the building. This should be a major issue to everyone in this country. And if it's not, it will be once it hits home for you. But we shouldn't wait for the damage to be done to be passionate about this issue and be openminded to create actual change.

It works great. In the UK there is 0 kids shot by guns every year (4000 kids shot in the USA every year), there are 0 cops shot by guns in the UK every year, 400 cops shot in the USA every year. 0 suspects shot by cops in the UK every year, 2500 suspects shot by cops in the USA every year. Gun deaths per year excluding suicides were 15,000 in 2015 while there was 33,000 car accident deaths in 2010 and 63,000 drug overdose deaths in 2016 so the problem obviously isnt the amount of people dying by guns its the fear of ease that it takes to effortlessly end so many lives in minutes aka its a psychological issue not a statistical issue because if it was it would be at the bottom of the list of ways to stop the most unnecessary deaths. But i do want to say the fact that media gives the killers so much notoriety and attention and displays the name, face and life story all over the world for weeks on end and the death toll for others who will try to beat a record since the goal for these people is to ultimately kill as many as possible because the more you kill the more attention you get and in my mind the only way to stop this is to stop putting out the info of the killer and instead focus on the victims

    • @sceett
      @sceett 6 років тому +7

      Og maco Sheesh ...yes but you can ban guns possibly saving those 15,000 lives so why wouldn’t you try? For or against guns surely something must be done - be it mental health improvements or gun control or both. You have to do something rather than nothing surely?

    • @agua414
      @agua414 6 років тому +5

      Stats can lie at times.
      It makes sense car accidents would happen more often, there are millions upon millions of people who use them daily to go to and from work, alot of the times on highways with 100 of thousands other drivers heading towards cities. Alsk there are environmental reasons to cause more accidents at certain times of the year.
      Drugs overdoses is also in its own category because drugs are illegal. No one is allowed to own them but they do anyways.
      So I dont think comparing any of those numbers are that relevant to solving mass shootings. Also I’m aware that alot of gun deaths are accidental, usually because people don’t treat them with the respect they deserve which is to not be easily accessible to children cause they aren’t locked away or because they have no safety features activated.

Plus you know the armed police would come down on you like a tonne of bricks if they suspected you had one in your possession. With reference to the point I was making, if you cared to read it properly. Was that surely something was must be done to at least try and solve the issue of massacres in the US, whether it’s more gun control or more of a focus on mental health. Surely you would agree that something - whatever it is - must be done? Or would you rather do nothing and just leave it to happen again and again?

    • @antonioroselli7074
      @antonioroselli7074 6 років тому +15

      This is a terrible argument. Guns have one purpose. To kill other people. Whether it's for protection or has ill intent. Guns were invented to harm others. Whether it's hunting animals or hunting people. Cars were invented for the sole purpose of traveling, and an unintended side effect of driving a car is you might harm someone else. And Likewise with drugs. No body takes drugs with the intent of overdosing, unless they are committing suicide.
      This is called a false equivalence, and a red herring fallacy. An argument where you redirect the question at hand and falsely compare it to a completely different subject in order to distract the argument to something else. Orcas kill 1000 people a year we need to do something about those orcas. Ye will did you hear about plane crashes. Those kill a lot of people too. These are completely different issues, that require entirely different solutions.

    I heard a statistic the other day. That in 1969 , there were 500,000 people committed to mental institutions, and today that number is under 25,000 nation wide. This could explain some of these horrible shootings. Modern semi-auto firearms are the most common, and responsibly used guns in history, Like beer. Compared to beer, the most common responsibly consumed alcoholic beverage by millions, accounts for over 30,000 deaths per year. Semi-auto rifles are less than 500. Violent gun crime has been falling since the 90's despite the growing number of legally owned firearms. ( US crime statistic)

      Matt Smith he was reported to the FBI. And still passed the background check for a gun.

      There were a *LOT* of warning signs.
      A few examples:
      - He was banned from having a backpack at school before he was expelled because he repeatedly made threats and the school didn't want to take the chance that he'd bring a piece to school in his backpack.
      - His neighbor reported that he had, at least once, shot at the chickens he had in his yard. One of the three major predictors of violent behavior is animal cruelty in youth (the other two are pyromania and wetting the bed until a very late age).
      - There was an incident where he apparently 'bit a child'. The article I read did not mention if this led to an arrest, or being sectioned in a mental ward.
      - He literally commented "I want to be a professional mass shooter" on a UA-cam video, which led to him being interviewed by the FBI.
      - He also allegedly had connections to a white supremacist group and, according to the article, went through 'paramilitary training' with them.
      - He was kicked out of that school for undisclosed disciplinary reasons, and other students even joked that someday he'd be a school shooter because he was so fucked up.
      Personally, I think this is just a drastic breakdown of the system. Florida doesn't have strict gun laws at all from what I remember when I've gone down there, so I really wouldn't put it out of the realm of possibility that their shitty background check system missed all that shit or the person who sold it to him was either A: Incompetent and didn't actually read the background check or B: Paid a bit under the table by the shooter to 'accidentally' forget to read the details of the background check.

      its so easy for people to say that the government knows and controls everything, it makes reality less scary
      but the thing is youre just being stupid when you say shit like this, youre reducing reality into something you can accept more easily especially since this explanation says its not your responsability to do anything

      If the government had gone after him, you would have stood up for him and said he had a right to free speech online, a right to own guns, and it was another example of government being too “big”. And now that they didn’t you think they let it happen as some conspiracy? Give me a break.

      I don't wonder if there is a conspiracy in our government to kill kids. I only wonder if you meant to click on Alex Jones instead of Joe Rogan.

    People tend to compare the United States compared to other countries without taking population sizes into account. The population of the United States is about 5 times larger than the UK... 4 times larger than Germany... The United States is about 15.5 times larger than all of Sweden, Norway, and Finland combined. Maybe more of these events happen here, but let's not forget how much larger and culturally diverse our country is compared to most.
