Aloha Trent, I just saw one of your posts on Instagram & was wondering when you were going to do another youtube video, so I checked your youtube channel and was surprised you did one day's ago. My notification must have been off or I just by pass it. Learned a lot from this video. That Mel Brown, I had a cooy the 1970's, wasn't into his music back then so I sold it, but now I can get into his music. You sure scored with that White Label Promo! Never recalled seeing a white label of that on Discogs either. Thanks for sharing your finds & purchases on line. Looking forward to watching your next video. Mahalo Ed
Hey Ed! No worries at all, man! I appreciate your comment nonetheless! I really enjoy that Mel Brown album though, very funky for when ya need some funky stuff in your life. Again, appreciate the comment, Ed and I hope that you’re doing well! Cheers!
Hi 👋 I love Jazz. I'm in my sixties now, and i have a large collection if that genre. I saw Miles Davis in concert here in New Zealand where i live. It was in the 1980s around the time of his Tutu album release. His back up band were very funky. I haven't heard of some of the musicians that you have mentioned.
Hey there! I love jazz too, if you couldn’t tell haha. It’s such a fascinating and amazing genre to me. Seeing Miles must’ve been amazing though! So many musicians I wish I could’ve seen play, sadly, most have passed before I was even a thought in this world. Hope you’re doin good!
Hey Trent! Its good to see another video! Sealed Little Beaver!? Thats amazing! I would love to find a copy. I need to expand my Art Blakey collection for sure. Floating bridge is a fantastic hard psych album, I had no idea about the connection to that area. Orignal Adams Apple is a great find! I'm salavating over all of those blue notes lol. I added a bunch of the albums you showed to my wantlist. Congrats on the great finds!
Thanks, dude! I was stoked on every single album haha. You gotta get some Little Beaver in your life though! I spin his albums often. Floating Bridge is really great though, and yeah, cool band who played the Seattle Pop Fest back in the day where the Doors headlined. I salivate over any Blue Notes so I totally get it😭😂 just keep a keen eye out for them and they’ll come your way! Check for the black b pressings and you might be able to score some good deals. Feel free to shoot me a message any time with any questions too! Cheers Sorin!
Probably my favorite recent finds I’ve watched! Congrats on those grails especially that Helen Merrill! Donovan had told me you picked it up a few days ago so I figured you’d surprise us with it at the end😂
Hahaha thanks, man! I had to show it and tell the story because it was just kind of wild! Just couldn’t believe that it was in this bin surrounded by stuff that was nowhere near its level😂
Hey! Trent's back! Mel Brown, hell yeah! When I was working in a record store my co-worker and I were sorting through a nice stack of jazz albums that came in and came across "Chicken Fat" we were like, "what the hell is this??!" Put it on and afterwards we searched out every Mel Brown record we could find. Great stuff- JT
I’m happy you dig Mel Brown too! He made some really funky electric albums! He’s definitely someone I’d pick up even if I didn’t know the album. Anything he did is just fun and really entertaining. Cheers JT!
Congrats on an absolutely killer stack, Trent. What a feeling it must have been to pull that Helen Merrill at an antique store out of a random box! One in a million odds I guess. Huge congrats on that one and the Larry Young. Those are just such amazing albums and very very tough to find these days. I have to agree with you that Maiden Voyage is one of HH's best albums. I go back and forth between that one, Inventions and Dimensions, and Empyrean Isles. Those 3 are the trifecta of very well rounded albums IMO and his playing on them is phenomenal. I do think you need to add some more Art Blakey in your collection if it is a little thin on his material. He not only has mentored some of the top jazz talent of that era but also has put out some of the top jazz albums IMHO. Freedom Rider for example, is not talked about a ton but his drumming on that record will blow your socks off if you have not heard that one. I always recommend it to everyone hahaha. Never heard of Little Willie John sadly but what a fantastic album that one is! Amazing find for $10! I don't know how you do it. Thanks for the video my man and much continued luck in antique store boxes! Cheers.
Thank you so much, man! Pulling that Helen Merrill was one of the highlights of digging this year for me. It was so surreal and exhilarating. And you know the pain I went through to find that Larry Young haha, so I’m just so happy to have another copy in the collection again. I’ve been really loving listening to it lately. I agree with you though and think those 3 albums are the core of Herbie and really showcase his skills as a musician and a songwriter. I know I need more Art Blakey though haha. I’m after Freedom Rider and then a nice early copy of Moanin’. I’ve been holding out on Moanin’ just because I want a nice early one. But I’m happy you dig the Little Willie John! He’s definitely more in the obscure r&b/soul group, but it’s a very good album! The later pressings are a little easier to find, but that original can be tough. Especially in decently playable condition. As always, man, cheers! And can’t wait to see you up here soon!
:: rad grabs bro. still need to pick up that larry young & check out that turrentine (4 of his in my upcoming vid). unfortunately i slept on that adams apple new in a half price bin this year. quality > quantity = wise
Sorry for the late reply here, but if you see a copy of Into Somethin anywhere then grab it! Took me 2 years to get another copy. I’m very much a quality vs quantity collector now, and I’m much happier for it! Happy new year, dude!
@@trentsrecords LOL vinyl guru… great finds and I can’t wait to see the next one! Glad I had the pleasure of meeting you and finding your channel this year! Cheers 🥂
Thanks Martin! On my hat is a dancing Grateful Dead bear that is also holding a fly fishing rod haha. And yup! Same dancing bears on the sticker in the background! Good eye lol
I found a copy of that Helen Merrill for a buck at a thrift store around forty years ago. My front cover looks better than yours but it is seam split on the top and the bottom. The record itself is pretty scratched up, vg- might be wishful thinking. The back cover pics are blue.
Dang! $1 would’ve been really nice! Lol. Sounds like you have a 55 or 56 pressings on your hands there! Check if the label has a silver ring on the outside of the label. If it does then it’s a first pressing which are worth significantly more!

I think I am going to sleep everynight hoping my dreams of finding a copy of Helen Merrill for less than a pair of Vans comes true!
Lmao it’s gonna happen, dude! You just gotta look deep inside yourself and manifest it…maybe I should just become a self help guru
