Yeah one of the first games I played as a little kid. I play shooters with invert mouse enabled to this very day as a result of playing Hellbender as a kid xD
Was that joystick the Microsoft Sidewinder 3D Pro? I had that one; I don't remember if it came with the game but that twisting motion was both compatible and super useful.
@@CarsSimplified hellbender got slapped on the box at a certain moment, i bought it way back with my parents, was a awesome joystick, unfortunately midi port went obsolete... got myself a hotas 4 and sidewinder force feedback 2
I was like 5 and my dad bought this game. Had no idea what I was doing but was a blast. Fly around shooting ships. This and Privateer. Dont think I ever made it past level 1
I remember being a kid and finding a demo of this game while exploring the contents of an old Windows 95 installation CD-ROM. Never got the full game, but the demo was quite fun!
Spent hours per day playing this when I was a kid, never really noticed that the voice of the computer was Scully (Gillian Anderson) until years later.
@@ReticentIndignation never played this one, played fury to death, especially after getting all the cheat codes, but this looks good too. And lol, Scully. I heart her now. Also, I think the news reporter in the intro was Anderson Cooper.
I remember playing this game on my Intel Pentium MMX 200Mhz, 8MB RAM, 1GB HDD with 32x CD Drive. It was one of the best machines money could buy at the time 😅
I remember playing the demo for this game on my first pc, a Windows 95 computer, but couldn't remember the name of the game... for many many years I've been occasionally trying to find it, and today I FINALLY found it! HELLBENDER!!
I remember when I briefly played the demo as a kid, I initially thought the joystick was a little robot companion since I thought the 2 red button's looked like eyes and part of the shade looked like a mouth.
So many memories. We got our first PC in 1996...we got trial versions of Terminal Velocity, then Fury 3, then this game. TV and Fury 3 were amazing....then for this game, I remember the music and the female narrator voice was so immersive. And seeing the hand move the "joystick" as you steer felt like step up also. Coming from NES, SNES, game boy, to a PC and seeing this was incredible. The music in this game is simple, dark and dystopian, very much reminds me of Mechwarrior 2 (even better music). Seeing 3D and flying around was mesmerizing. Looking back, its aged pretty well....the interior of your ship is a little too big IMO. But this and Hover! and MYST were really important games as a kid. You can also see how Half Life and the Gold Source engine in 1998 improved a lot on this. I love these old 3D games. Finally in 1999, Midtown Madness came, which was the first "open world" 3D, and the rest is history!
Yup played them alll on my Windows 95 AST Advantage PC, Pentium 100 I think. I had the Microsoft Sidewinder Joystick, felt like a super star playing Fury 3 and Deadly Tide.
Such a great game. A remaster of the series would be rad! Until then, I need to find my game disc and try to get my computer to play nice with the game.
*shoots bullets* Computer: "Warning! Weapon energy low!" Me: "WTF?!?" I used to just fly around shooting missiles at random stuff far away from the enemies because that was more fun to me than the original game. lol
This game, Urban Assault, Hardwar. All games i had no idea what i was doing yet had fun nonetheless. (I’d recommend Urban Assault to anyone now that I’m an adult and has played it again)
Was this the first time you played this game? ^^ You know that you can distribute your energy to the shild and weapon energy, seen at the bottom right. It's usually a good idea to first get the shields up as the weapon energy is drained with every shot. Though full weapon energy does more damage. Also some missiles have a lock on target function (viper for example if i remember correctly). Not all missiles are equal. Some are ground some air missiles. It's worth to use them accordingly ^^.
Bunny83 yeah I remember redistributing to weapons when there are no enemies and I need to destroy high health objective and I think Legion missiles locked on too. Is there any game like this these days? So much fun was had!
The first time i ever played this was when a was a wee lad. I had no idea what I was doing but it was fun! Never got past the first level and only knew how to boost. I kept playing it till I grew old enough to realize there was a little box that pointed me in the direction of a quest. After that I was blown away by how in depth this game was. Awesome game.
Yes, If I remember correctly, Hellion missiles were one of the best Stand off weapons. This game was The S+!# It would be really cool if someone would make a new update for this game, bring it into the 2020s with a tad bit better graphics, AI, etc., but at the same time not over-do it. I'd buy it in a heartbeat! (cloaking device engaged)
successor to it, using the same engine. Terminal Velocity was the test game (since it came pre-installed on a lot of Win95 systems back in the day) and then they made Fury3 using the same engine but a different universe and story. Then they made Hellbender and it was a sequel to Fury3
*cries* We ask for this game and Fury3, and what do we get instead? Call of Duty ultra uber vibranium edition volume 30. Microsoft is awful with its IP management. So many good titles like this and still more COD and Assassins Creed. Why??????
@@BLSFL_HAZE I just thought id point out the comparison that Microsoft and other developers have a large list of IP's that they do no reissue and sell. I'm well aware that Microsoft does not make COD and Assassins Creed. But that it would be nice to have some of these original IP's rather than another COD and Assassins Creed. I didn't want to turn it into an essay so I paraphrased it as much as possible.
i remember playing this game to no end, having no idea what i was doing! LOL
Same
Same!

yep... lost in the sauce with what was going on
same until one day clicked, follow the radar pointing north 😀
I only had the demo, but I remember being intimidated by the complex maps and dark tone of the game.
Same here! I found it while poking around in Windows. That and a Buddy Holly video. LOL!
@@Cappanerd broo the buddy holly video lmao i watched it so many times as a kid. Remember that mouse for kids like a big ball?
Same! I loved it too, played it for hours not knowing what I was doing, loving the music and the cool controls, flying everywhere!
I remember being intimidated by the small and fast enemy aircraft I couldn't hit.
Same here lol 😂 👍 came with monter truck madness demo
Thank you. Playing this game was one of the best parts of my gaming life as a child.
When my parents bought a new pc in the 90's they also got a joystick which came with this game. I played it to death.
Was that joystick the Microsoft Sidewinder 3D Pro? I had that one; I don't remember if it came with the game but that twisting motion was both compatible and super useful.

I remember I played it on 1996. At that time it was an addiction to play this game.
Oh, man. Talk about a blast from the past. I can't believe I remembered the name of this game.
Is that Gillian Anderson as the voice of Eve? :D EDIT: It is!
so true,
BABE!
Gillian Anderson was the apex nerd heartthrob of our day.

We had a demo of this as well as Rebel Moon Rising for our first PC. They both blew my mind back in the day.

8mb of ram 🤣🤣🤣
Bro me to! Man good times!
We had something similar, my dad paid around 2500 dollars, and the salesperson asdured him he would -never- need more than 1GB of storage😂
Loved this game man! Thanks for allowing me to relive some nostalgia.

Holy shit. How I remember the name is beyond me. I played this 20 something years ago. Takes me back like crazy
Yep, had this game.
Sometimes I didn't even care about the missions, I just wanted to fly around, blowing things up.

There was a demo of it on some windows cd. and hover!

I used to hoard my Viper missiles for dogfights and high manuver battles lol.
Maximus Reed yep me too. Loved this game so much
Omg!!!!!!! NOSTALGIA!!!!!
Loved playing this game in 1998-1999 time frame. Also had the Sidewinder joystick which absolutely made game play better.
Music still holds up.
Dude when I play this game i remember that i only hold shift to speed up and dont know where to go I just shoot things 😂
Bought my first "Flightstick" and guess what came with that bloody thing! I couldn't stop playing it, man!

I actually found my copy but the offer is appreciated!
I remember my school computer had this on it. Now I need a copy
What, they made a sequel to Fury 3? That's crazy, I had no idea.
im getting HEAVY Descent vibes off of this. probs cuz it came out the same decade.

Used to play this in the early 2000s gameplay was so buzzy :p
This is the most erotic game ever
I Liked this game because I play this game in the easy mode in my computer and I liked it very much. :-)
Oh the nostalgia
I have this game factory sealed. Found it at Goodwill years ago
Played the crap outta this, still have the CD, case, and manual

This was one fucking awesome game! Wouldn't mind if Microsoft made a new version of it.
Yes i agree With you. THE newests games of airships Aren't so Good. I think they are very boring
best game ever
Bust out that big ass flight sim controller from 1997 and lets do this shit!

So cool game in my first win95, where can download it?
I remember wen my brother download this game
Used to place this on the Internet Gaming Zone.
Where did you learn to fly?
Use to play this in my childhood. For a long time I was convinced it was called helebander. Until I replaced 'e' with an 'l'. And voila
Does anybody know if this was basically a Windows port of the Terminal Velocity game?

We can look the video in 144p without seeing the difference xD
voice by Gillian Anderson
(MS-DOS) Terminal Velocity -> (Win3.1/95) Fury3->(Win95) Hellbender

YESSSSSSSS
Gillian Anderson voice !
Why do they hate the Bions soo much?
Trying to find a new game similar to this. Anyone got something similar? Seems a no brainer to do a remake.
Terminal Velocity!
Hey, they made another flight sim. Anything goes now.
If only there was a way to get it run on modern Windows. ☹️
U can, on a virtual machine
I loved playing this game with the C&C: Red Alert 3 album!
