It looks very cute, I think knitting as panels instead of separate squares is a much smarter method. Something else that will elevate your knitting like blocking: you are twisting your stitches, which makes the fabric less stretchy and lay in strange ways. When every stitch is twisted, the fabric biases quite badly (this means it skews diagonally). It's a bit difficult to explain over text, but it's becoming a more well-known concept in recent years, so there's more resources available on it. Twisted stitches are used in patterns, but when you are twisting them unintentionally, it has adverse effects. This is the first video of yours that I have seen, but since you mentioned being better at crochet, I assume you started with it? That's what I did. I had the problem of twisting my stitches as well, which was annoying to figure out as there wasn't much help at all. On YT, Roxanne Richardson has a good video on this topic ("Unintentionally Twisted Stitches"). If you are entering the stitch in the usual way, you might be wrapping your yarn around the needles incorrectly-it's opposite of how you wrap the yarn around your hook when you crochet. I didn't see the original video, so I'm not sure what sort of hair or hatpiece you have planned/envisioned, but I think a neon green fascinator to match the Erlenmeyer flask would be cool.
Thank you for the tips! I looked at it and somehow was not purling correctly and I don't even know when I picked up that bad habit. Looking forward to improving my knitting even more in the future!
That is very true! My original sweater was made almost 4 years ago (ah crazy!) and it was the second thing I've ever knitted in color work so it's good to see that I'm improving my knitting.
Cool Reminds me of a fishing cardigan that my granny knitted for my granda with salmon all over it that I found in his shed as we cleared their house out I wear it for special occasions
ive been thinking of crocheting a periodic table for some time, but since i already have periodic table courtains in my room, i thought it was a little overkill. but watching this changed my mind. you seem so happy with your two periodic cardigans and the giant poster. im jealous. i want periodic table sheets
You did so great! I love it so much! I am 33 and have had a huge hyper fixation on the periodic table since I was 13, I wish I could purchase this sweater because I am absolutely hopeless at knitting 😆 and I do think it looks a lot more polished knitted vs crocheted. That being said, I will probably try to make a periodic table cardigan with crocheted granny squares, it’s a more chunky-idk… rustic? look, but it’s still I look I really like. I just LOVED the knitted sweater. I assume it’s just knit and purl? So maybe I could figure out how to do it on a loom? Because it’s really mostly keeping track of what I’m doing on the needles that messes me up 😅. Anyway, I love this! You’re so creative! I love the idea of a science themed decade outfit, and you’ve pulled it off so well! It’s very inspiring! I almost want to sketch out some other ways of doing something similar for various decades over the last 200 years or so. (If you did it with any other decades I’d love to watch it by the way!) I’m usually really into like 1830s-1940s fashion, then also ‘70s-I personally am having fun imagining using science motifs in the embroidery of victorian clothes, etc. So fun. Sorry I rambled so much 🤣 And now I have to get back to work, so I can’t really edit 😅. Great work! Edit: I lied, I did edit slightly for grammar
I only crochet (currently) and I’m thinking I’ll make this by putting together the grid patterns for the elements into 5 panels like she did and tapestry crocheting them. Not sure how to break up the table though? Have the table go across from sleeve to back to sleeve and do something else on the front panels? Someone with way more knowledge would have a better idea!
Thank you so much! I definitely think you could figure out a crochet version of it because I know you can crochet with charts too, although I'm not that experienced in crocheting that way. The sweater is done in stockinette stitch which is one row of knit then purl and repeated back and forth. I think you could do that on a loom? but I don't know how easy color work would be on a loom. I love the idea of science themed decades outfits!!!!! That is definitely something I want to keep in mind for the future, it's an excellent idea! I want to make more science themed clothes just for my own personal enjoyment. Glad you enjoyed the video and if you ever make your own version, I would love to see it!
I would love to see you make a crocheted version, I believe it is definitely possible! I originally broke up the table by having it go in numerical order across the front and then top down from the back and then each sleeve. But then I messed up immediately and just went a little random haha. For me, I drew out the number of squares I needed and then wrote the numbers down how I wanted.
This video had great Rachel Maksy energy. I think the white and blue works really well for the periodic table, too.
Thank you so much! I love Rachel Maksy so this comment made my day!

The weave on sweater Mk.2 is so much tighter. might not be earth shattering but its important to note improvement.

It was even cuter in person- great job!
thank you!

That's awesome! I love stories like that!
Wow this is incredible! Loved seeing how you planned things as well!
I'm glad you enjoyed it!

This is your sign to make that periodic table blanket! One can never have too many periodic table themed accessories!

Thank you so much! I love to find another woman in STEM who loves sewing and crafting!

Those sound amazing! I hope you finish them and absolutely rock them!
Now that's a snazzy outfit!

So fun! Love the vintage vibes and the science. (The moving camera in a few segments did make me a bit dizzy though)
Glad you enjoyed the video! Sorry about the camera motion, I just got a new camera and am still figuring out some of the auto track features!
such a fun and cute idea !!! really well executed too :)
Thank you, I was so excited about how it came out!
Loved how the sweater came out !! Very inspiring :))
Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
It looks amazing!
i have no interest in knitting/crocheting/making clothes but this was so fun to watch. nice job :D
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
What are you using to block? I see a fabric what is that?
It's just a towel to pin my pieces to, I don't have any blocking mats around.
@BriannaDignard ok yeah that what I do too. It just didn't look like Terry cloth in the video.
Thank you c:

P.S. you can use waistcoat stitch for a knitted look
